  2. The StarChylde: Upon discovery of the young woman, and the when all reports have been made, the human crew swings into action. Inventory of the menial servitor roster shows one Murder Servitor is missing, having conducted a routine patrol, it never returned. Even the Captain is roused to make a proclamation from his stateroom that a sweep is to be undertaken, every nook and cranny, every bilge-seam and engine compartment is to be scoured. The Captain is wrothful, umbrageous and demands the culprit servitor is to be destroyed utterly, spaced into a black hole, and the remaining stocks of murder-wretches are to be taken apart and inspected down to the cranial wiring. With touching gentleness, De Wiart attends the body himself. Ashen-faced, his well-groomed moustache usually vibrating at every energetic action, is stilled. Blooding his own hands by lifting the shattered body onto the stretcher, watching her carried to the infirmary for further inspection and final committal. He merely nods to the assembled crew and repairs to a sanctum close to the Astropathic Chamber. Reynard: The Seneschal doesn't tarry. Once committed, and even with the ruckus now engulfing the Chylde, he leads off at a clip to the bridge. On duty is the second watch, and he points to one of the comms sub-officers. 'Jenkins, be a good man and help Mr Reynard? Plough up all you can from Damocles docking traffic, we're looking for keyword Androcles.' The middle-aged man, slightly balding and reasonably well-fed in comparison to his counterparts in the Navy nods. He directs you to a data inspection terminal. 'Mr Reynard, if you please.' GM OOC: You can now make a Challenging (+0) Search Test on the database for pertinent information. This will be an Extended Test ( 3 x Actions, which may be completed in the same post since we're Narrative), as there are reams if useless trivia of import only to dock officers and deckhands. @Xin Ceithan Are you about to handle interaction with Gunnery Girl Sola, sir, or should I autopilot you? Any other character can take part in the search for the servitor as described. It may be best to discuss/coordinate which areas of the ship you are searching to maximize coverage. However, the wider you spread the net, the more likely you are to miss something. You may take crew appropriate to your Specialty with you to provide Assistance, but this will require a series of Successful Difficult (-10) Search, or Difficult (-10) Psyniscience Tests depending on sector. Stern: 4 Tests Midships: 5 Tests Bow: 3 Tests Questions and Shouting in the OOC.
  3. If you take the optimum loadout of each squad though, I would say the kasrkin are objectively better than scions. 10 scions only take 2 special weapons. 10 kasrkin can take a sniper plus 4 special weapons. That’s quite a big difference in firepower for a squad that can also self-order to hit on 2s.
  4. Thank you gaurdian! I figured with the Hounds being Huron's version of the Master of the Hunt from the White Scars, it would make sense to have one of the leaders covered in trophies from all those marks that he's been ordered to kill. It also helps explain why I didn't scrape the Blood Angels details off his leg Yesterday's points changes make me very happy indeed as they've dropped points for the core of every list I make; Marines, Bikes, Raptors and Venomcrawlers. My usual 1500pt list and crusade list has just gained another 80 points all of sudden which was impressive. I definitely won't complain! They've also dropped points on Maulerfiends too which has given me some more ideas on how I could convert one up as well as Possessed and even Havocs! The juices are flowing
  5. Might be missing your point, but that's the misconception, many of the EC are noise marines, but not all of them, and similarly, not all noise marines are Emperor's Children. There are still plenty of non-NM EC's about. Even then in previous editions, NM's could take melee weapons and were great in melee as they had I5 and fought before marines. I guess the fumble would be if they flanderised EC's to make them be only noise marines, and all new units just be screaming noisers, as that's the low hanging fruit? I'm imagine something more like the HH Inductii, flamboyant with sabres and duelling etc, but I think whatever we do see will have 'upgrades' like shriekers.
  6. That cloak is amazing, really blanchitsu-like! Lovely army coming together nice, though you're fighting a lot of nids. Any good upgrade rolls to note?
  7. 1. How many regular people play war games in your group? There's 4 of us in the group at the moment. 2. How long have you been in the hobby? Since the early 90's, I can't rember the exact year but the 4th edition fantasy box was my first experience with wargaming. 3. Is your group growing? No, it's just the 4 of us, we have to much real life interference to try and find more people. Also, considering we're playing at my house there's a space issue that comes into play aswell with not being able to play mreothan 2 games at a time. 4. What games does your group play? 30k, AT, Warhammer Fantasy in the various editions, Malifaux and Battletech. 5. How often do people leave your group? How often do new people come into your group? At the moment pretty much never, this groupd decided to start playing together and we still do. We haven't had new people since we started, None of us do a lot of social media stuff and we're just too busy with Rl to bother looking for players to join. 6. Age Range of oldest player? 42 7. Age Range of Youngest Player? 37 8. Average age of player? 40-ish 9. Where do you play regularly (Ex: Hobby store, friend's house, rented out space, tournament, etc)? We always play at my house, finally giving me a reason to indulge in collecting and building scenery :P 10. Do you think the hobby is growing or dying? Please explain why. No idea to be honest, I don't have my finger on the pulse as it were. However, judging from the amount of systems out there and how much stuff gets released I'd say it probably is healthy and growing. Otherwise the hobby wouldn't be able to support this. Specific systems or games might die off or have a hard time but the wargaming hobby as a whole seems to be healthy enough.
  8. Noise marines in 8th (I don't know about 9th) still had an extra attack over regular chaos marines and could be kitted out in chainswords. Plague Marines have a good mixture of melee and ranged options. Noise marines could get the same treatment. But I would expect them to lose access to Legionnares and only be able to take noise marines when the codex does drop. The other three did.
  9. Very kind, GM, thank you indeed. And: Welcome back @Ancient_Sobek
  10. Today
  11. Thanks guys. :) I want to say I'm working on some more Titanicus but I've been distracted by Battlefleet Gothic. So I'll be painting that for a while. Then i PROMISE I'll be back onto my Titans.
  12. Even if you have Instagram you can't see the post since the account is private.
  13. Scene 8. New Friends? In the aftermath of the battle with Grubgob and his minions, Kill-Team Lucifer is ordered to remain in the field for several days, hunting down and rooting out any spore-carrying remnants of the xenos threat. You are joined by Aarval Skaayn, who brings with him Ordo Xenos teams made up of dozens of flamer-equipped mortals. Together you scour the mountainsides bare of every living thing for several kloms around the crash site and down the river. Only time - perhaps many decades - will tell if such efforts to end the Orkoid life cycle before it can begin anew have been successful. Nevertheless, the Watch-Captain seems impressed by your handling of the Freebooterz and their monstrous Kaptin. His manner is more respectful, more open… though he seems slightly irritated by what happened to the Blackshield, who was airlifted along with your Apothecary directly back to the Bulwark. At the start of the third day, when he receives an incoming message on his personal vox channel, he gives Lucifer access to the audio feed, allowing you to listen in to the conversation. “My Lord Kine,” he answers respectfully, “the cleansing proceeds as…” “The decon teams can handle the rest of the cleansing, Watch-Captain. We have other priorities. A fast trader vessel has just crossed the Mandeville. It is carrying the last members of your Kill-Team, and will set them down planetside in a matter of hours. Repair crews report the Supremacy will be ready to depart in less than six days. Return to the Bulwark as soon as possible for final preparations. Kine out.” The Inquisitor does not wait for an answer. Skaayn pauses thoughtfully for a moment, frowning. Finally he nods to himself, as though resigned, and then he points a finger upwards and lazily circles it in the air. *** A few hours later, you wait atop one of the Bulwark’s landing pads, watching as an Arvus Lighter makes its approach. After the shuttle lands and its heavy ramp opens, two figures disembark. Both are clad as you are, in the black and silver of the Long Vigil. The first carries a shield almost as tall and wide as he is. When you look past it, you can see that he carries a shortened Bolter and his right shoulder pad bears a triad of five pointed stars, white against a purple field. He speaks. “Brother (I'll-add-this-as-soon-as-Sobek-tells-me-what-it-is…-ius), Breacher of the Imperial Stars.” The second leans on a tall staff topped with a silver aquila. He wears no helm but his collar curves up and rises over his head, where it is surmounted by a horned skull carved in gold. His right shoulder is black, with a central red circle bisected by a white lightning bolt. His features are much like Skaayn's own, pale skin and pure black eyes, though this warrior wears his midnight hair in a long ponytail rather than shaven away entirely. He smiles tiredly and echoes the Breacher's introduction. “Brother Dendinius, Codicier of the Black Guard.” OOC: So, I'm pleased to welcome Brother currently-Nameless/ @Ancient_Sobek to the game! Codicier Dendinius is a NPC. Feel free to interact with either/both as you see fit! Also, just a note regarding Asterius and Amaras, who will obviously be out of contact for some time while the Apothecary performs the necessary surgical procedures to save the Assault Marine's life. So, @Machine God your interactions with the team will be very limited, and for now you might need to go back into ‘Sus-An coma dreams’ if you wish to post anything? @Xin Ceithan obviously if you're around and able to post, then great, please feel free to interact with the team as you wish, but otherwise we'll assume Amaras is giving Asterius his full attention? However, so that we know where we are with healing, I have rolled some First Aid and Extended Care tests (and done reasonably well on them). With total bed rest, by the time you need to leave for Dorghra - or certainly by the time you arrive there 2(ish) weeks later - Asterius should be mostly* recovered. *more on the long term effects of bionics, etc, in a later update.
  14. There's people who DON'T magnetise them?? For shame!! There a REALLY good conversion of a Castellan converted into an Emperor. Using an awful lot of plasticard but it's such an amazing build. I'll see if I can dig it out of my computer. @malika666 Great stuff man. You know I've been waiting ages for different sized buildings from you!!
  15. 1. How many regular people play war games in your group? Play...? I'm not really in a group, I mainly collect and paint but occasionally I play a game with the kids. Pre Covid I'd occasion do a pickup game in store so, 3 maybe 2. How long have you been in the hobby? since the mid 90s I think - just before codex Chaos second edition 3. Is your group growing? I mean, I have two kids who I have loosley inducted though they are not yet that interested 4. What games does your group play? 40k though we I do have several options - kill team, space hulk (gorka morka if i dig it out of the loft) 5. How often do people leave your group? How often do new people come into your group? probably in the next 4-8 years the kids will move out though with rent prices, who knows! 6. Age Range of oldest player? 42 7. Age Range of Youngest Player? 12 8. Average age of player? 22.6, skewed quite a bit 9. Where do you play regularly (Ex: Hobby store, friend's house, rented out space, tournament, etc)? home 10. Do you think the hobby is growing or dying? Please explain why. I'm really not the best person to say. The materials for the hobby are definitely improving and growing, the player base, no idea!
  16. I have a feeling that someone looked at the popularity of Kasrkin compared to Scions and came to the wrong conclusions. I think Kasrkin are more popular because their models are more appealing. But I think someone made the mistake that Kasrkin being more popular equates to them being better.
  17. Just had another look at the index datasheets for scions and kasrkin, which seem like two almost identical units at face value. The 20 points tax looks like it is because the Kasrkin can take an extra 3 special weapons over the scions (4 per unit plus a sniper rifle, instead of 1 per 5). The self-ordering rule is also quite strong, but the scions also have deep strike and re-rolls of 1 to hit (full re-roll against objective holding units). So I don’t think it’s based on special rules, just kit. My Kasrkin are terribly under-equipped considering this points hike, as I have the old metal squad that came with 1 x grenade launcher and 1 x flamer. A loadout of 2 x melta, 2 x grenade, plasma pistol on sergeant, a sniper, a vox unit and a melta mine would massively increase my squad’s effectiveness but is not a feasible conversion project with the metal models. At this stage I would be better off proxying them as scions because of my forced loadout. Power levels strike again! :sigh:
  18. I'll take it- I still have 300XP from character creation, 800XP total with the 500 we just got, so that will put me into a deficit of 200XP I believe.
  19. TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE 4th TYRANIC WAR Cresting the ridge. GAME 9 - SECURE THE TUNNELS Game two of the day was not quite as evenly matched, as Kieran's Hive Frostbjorn continue to be a pretty hard counter for me. Still, was a solid match, back-and-forth in the beginning until my eventual trouncing. Unlike our last game, I was actually able to score some decent kills, which was nice, until the Rupture Cannon finished its wicked work taking care of all my dreads and other larger targets. There more where those came from. Captain Cominius' second outing was a rough one, after his unit was cleared out by massed fire, and him and the apothecary swarmed and devoured. So it goes. At least he looked good! Numbers not in my favour. We're moving into the endgame of the Crusade now. Tired of marines v nids, we're going to fast forward towards the final 2,000 point games. Means I should probably get another 300 points worth of lads painted!

  21. I use Heavy Bolter sponsons. At the start of 10th I was using Multimeltas but the short range means not shooting for the first round most of the time. And since the Russ will probably only live for 2 turns or so that's huge. If you can Remain Stationary then having Lethal Sustained Hits is very nice. And they give you nice anti-infantry shooting if there is not vehicle/monster target. I'd imagine that Plasma is also nice but i don't like putting wounds on my T11 2+ (it should be very hard to wound. My T3 5+ guardsmen can die to hazardous).
  22. IF chapter master even doesn't have a piece of portrait! Well, IF is the default loyalist legion in 30K and received more love there.
  23. @Mazer Rackham Yep, as promised at the start I will be moving everyone on to Renown: Respected next time we do Req -but I guess if you are looking to SigW something, it might as well apply straight away? (or once you are back to the Bulwark at least?) @Trokair @Mike Zulu Yep, I'll cover a bit more of this stuff with this week's update @Urauloth go for it! @Lord_Ikka Hmm. Cost for an Assault Marine is 500xp, cost for a Tac is 800xp, minimum cost for an Elite Advance is 750xp. Ok, I'm going to set a cost of 1000xp (you can either view that as x2 for taking it from another Archetype table, or a 200xp premium for taking it early from your own tables). However, because I'm a generous whatsit, if you want to take that Talent I will allow you to pay half now, and gain the ability... but obviously that means you won't have any xp to spend next time we finish a gaming session?
  24. Castinius He danced among the training servitors, spinning away from shock-mauls and dodging nerve-deadening flechette rounds. Castinius' blade flashed and bolt pistol barked; this was the glory of battle. His blood thundered as he fought three of the servitors at once, sparks flying from his armor as the mind-locked training dummies barely missed him. A quick thrust from his saber, a well-placed bolt, and then a final turn and slash finished the combat. Castinius breathed deep and slowed his hammering heartbeat. He moved to the training arena's maintenance shrines and began to polish his blade. Trusting others to check his wargear was not something he believed in- he would service his own weapons and armor because his life was on the line when it was needed. Listening to his vox-bead, he listened to the discovery of the dead rating. A curled lip showed his scorn of the murder-servitors; useful terror-troops for sweeping through the dregs of an enemy ship, but he preferred to fight alongside those not goaded into combat with implanted violence-engrams and chem-shunts. {i]Most likely one of the damned things got free during the transit and the rating was the first it stumbled across. Bad luck. [/i] Maybe a hunt for the malfunctioning servitor would be called? A good hunt would rally the men and be an auspicious start to the hunt for the Inquisition's prize.
  25. After a delay, work on my Overlord is complete! As expected it involved some finicky cuts and adjustments. The first step was to remove the loincloth bits from each set of legs as well as cutting each body at the waist (only one picture of this unfortunately, I got caught up in the work). I then reattached the loincloth from the Arrow Overlord to the legs of the Scythe Overlord. The Tachyon Arrow arm was cut loose from the neck joint (which is still one of the oddest moldings I've seen even in a push-fit model) and cut at the elbow to repose it in a straight out aiming pose. The arm was pinned at the elbow and shoulder for extra strength, and the original power cable bent to fit the new pose. I had planned on replacing the cable with wire to have an easier time posing it, but that didn't end up working and I had to glue the original cable back on. Lesson learned - sometimes the simpler idea is the better one! When I went to attach the Arrow Overlord body to the Scythe Overlord legs, I realized that I somehow lost a vertebrae during the original cuts. A piece of styrene rod fit the bill, with another pin added to help strengthen the waist. A bit of plastic glue later, and he's ready for basing and priming! I'm quite happy with the end result here, it feels more imposing and the lines of motion I discussed in my previous post line up a lot better in my eyes.
  26. I'm running a 32 player event, with a significant waitlist, doing exactly that, based around the Eye of Terror campaign, people are gagging for Nostalgia! Also allowing use of the Vehicle/Nid Creature Design Rules allows some new, cool :cuss: to be used in conjunction with some of the very early Imperial Armours. We also down in Victoria had a WHFB 6th edition resurgence for a few years, which was great, I imagine ToW will at least initially kill that, but it was bloody ace! Mordheim is always floating around also... pretty much if its turn of the century GW, you'll probably find some peeps to play with haha.
