  1. Past hour
  2. TITH I started sketching out and building parts lists to change the look of the chapter in my signature. I've got a harebrained scheme to treat Phobos armour as Mk IX power armour, and create a standard Tactical Squad, including a lascannon and a plasma gun, but using the Phobos units as 'true-scale' marines. I don't suppose anyone has a Phobos marine and a Devastator lascannon they'd be willing to do a comparison shot of for me...?
  3. That's a curious take and your "my guys" is a very interesting thread and I think I supported you in there but I find sometimes rather than an air of mystery it just feels like a void to me. I just can't get excited about a blank slate like 2nd edition Ferrus Manus. I think the Index Astartes series from 3rd Edition (?) were fantastic as they fleshed out the legions and gave them and their Primarchs some degree of depth. I must admit it would be kinda cool if we had loads of info on some of the Primarchs... but it was all conflicting information from several different sources. There's been almost ten thousand years for the formation of rumours, legends, supressed or doctored knowledge and full on purging of data. If what we knew about some Primarchs was actually horribly inaccurate it could be fun. There would be more branching off points and plot hooks to inspire campaigns because there could be wild conspiracy theories to follow. Regardless, hopefully there is still room for people to have fun with the background and that there is still enough mystery and intrigue left to keep discussion going.
  4. It does bear a strong resemblance to the Shardspeekers staff, specifically right below the....orb of smoke and pondering?
  5. Yeah, I figured it would be pretty varied, much like our own broad range of attire, but I couldn't remember reading any actual descriptions or seeing any images. I suppose that much like the rest of 40k, I can kinda do whatever I want and as long as it feels vaguely Eldar-esque, I should be fine. And hey, nothing wrong with prioritizing comfort! I don't wear corsets everyday even tho they look killer. That was a thought I had. I don't have the space or skill to craft a full suit of armour, so I was hoping to start a bit smaller and maybe work my way up. Novitiates are a good idea, they only have some armour on the shoulders and legs (knees? I can't tell if its a knee high boot or a full armoured greave) which is much more manageable. Thanks for reminding me they exist, I totally forgot about them I assumed very elven flowing robes would be an easy assumption, and fairly easy to manage in terms of cosplay. A part of me was also hoping for something like the Eldar Titan Crew. I don't know why, but the look just speaks to me. It might be the crop top jacket with the Craftworld(?) symbol on that back. I suppose if I'm feeling brave I can go with the classic tunic/simple attire of the Repentia, tho at that point I'm just walking around in my sleepwear. Tho if I'm being honest it's hardly any more revealing than some of the cosplays I already have so I suppose it wouldn't be a problem, probably more comfortable that my Lisa outfit too. Would be a good excuse to build up muscle again, especially if I can make/get my hands on an eviscerator. Thanks again for the replies everyone.
  6. I think in 10th that generally if a unit has a rule, attached Characters also get the rule since they count as part of the unit.
  7. Black Knights with an Attached Command squad are pretty good. They are fast, tough and pretty hard hitting in both shooting and melee. Overcharge the Plasma Talons and use the Apothecary to revive models that fail their Hazardous tests. 2 squads like that give you a pair of good hammer units. Add a couple of anvil units in the form of Terminator squads, a couple of Scout squads for screening, Objectives and shenanigans and some anti-tank and you are good to go.
  8. Another thing I forgot to talk about - The Spartan. GW made an immaculate plastic kit for what is arguably the best looking Landraider style tank. It also offers unique functionality in terms of just how much it can transport. You can deploy 10 Terminators AND a character inside the tank. And then they removed it from the game. I would accept all the Landraiders being dropped and replaced by the Spartan. Heck, make it a Lord of War if required.
  9. I don't see most of the Bonereapers range working as 30k/40k daemons, except for the cavalry and the big models. For example this kit looks great for a trio of Tzeench's Daemon Brutes (even if they would need smaller bases): https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/shop/Endless-Spells-Ossiarch-Bonereapers-2019
  10. Aesthetically sure, but there's always been a difference where the Company banner (or Chapter banner) is more important to all the Marines in the force. The efficacy of stormbolters can change over time and I don't think putting all the weapon options in one kit is a good idea. First. it would lead to a lot of wasted plastic (not everyone is going to want to magnetize). Second, it robs us of a chance to have more dynamically posed Terminators (see Intercessors vs Assault Intercessors). I don't know how I feel about Land Raiders going away, but it would be nice to have a more straight-forward assault ramp tank without any additional gewgaws. I would love to something lascannon, but I'm not sure what they could do where it's not just Super-superkrak.
  11. Slowly painting my Sicaran. Hopefully I can speed up at the techniques when I move to the infantry. Still have a tone of plastic Jump infantry to build.
  12. Today
  13. I like the idea. I think just using different colours and maybe put them on SF bases will be enought to make them "not-bonereapers" for the most part
  14. I'm going to disagree with the first part of your post @Magos Takatus - I found the lack of detail around the Primarchs and such to be great, because it created a sense of mystery and an air of mythology about such characters. My thread on losing a sense of 'my guys' kind of touches on this. TL;DR - I liked earlier editions for the genericness of the troops and so on. The second part I can see where you're coming from, but could it be argued that the inability of (say) a Leman Russ squadron to take out ye olde Bloodthirster was down to the rules at the time? My memories of daemons in early editions are (admittedly) hazy, as only one of my school friends used them, and he was a very capable player (mixed with a touch of 'that guy'). I remember he had a Lord of Change and a Bloodthirster, and they were annoying, but cost a lot. I remember he fielded a Bloodthirster once, and not a lot else, especially compared to the amount of Guard I had by comparison. There was a lot of rolling for Chaos Gifts as I recall. I like units that can deal with such things, but I'm not sure they needed to be the Primarchs. However, that genie is out of the bottle, and GW loves a centrepiece kit for each army.
  15. Many thanks @MithrilForge! I definitely think you’re right, the base needs a little bit more work. I have an old piece of damaged terrain not doing anything useful so I can break that into bits for the bases. Yours looks great so I’ll take inspiration from that! Hopefully it won’t be too long before another update.
  16. She looks great Loquille Really like the cloak and the blue, where's the head from? I threw together another veteran, not quite as good of a result as the first.
  17. I've also started a Primaris project and amassed around 2k pts of models since I got back into the hobby, despite 'playing Kill Team and not getting into 40k'. Most were puirchased in battleforces or eBay unwanted models. My Primaris will be Primaris only but I've created a homebrew chapter and backstory that works with this. I've ideas for making the squads a little more interesting and harking back to RT but there won't be much in terms of older armour apart from the odd beakie helmet or studded shoulder pad. I've also designs on a few kitbashed characters. Ultimately, I think that as the kids would say - 'you do you'. I mean that nicely . What will excite you about the project? What will be fun to paint?
  18. Wholeheartedly agree that this collection of stories overtakes The Successors. They would print money if they just held on to these and released The Successors 2 once they acquire another 5-6 decent shorts. If the theme is just various Space Marine flavors it’s impossible to screw up in terms of advertising. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose one of these shorts to the exclusivity of a follow up novel’s Limited Edition release, however.
  19. Just remembered Stu Black was quite big into Emperors Children (a loooooong time ago) so that hopefully bodes well for their book rules wise at least! Funny how memory works, it was that colour scheme that brought it back to me :D
  20. Woops, forgot to update. Finished up those 'Stealers, which finally gives me a fully painted Space Hulk set. Then I joined a Escalation league, which resulted in a couple of painted units for my Consecrators. I lost most matches but a large margin, but at least the pile of grey has shrunk a bit. And I've finally begun the great effort of the next project! During a build like this, one really appreciates the plastic kits a lot more! It's a chonky fellah
  21. At least currently, the catachan ability improves melee, but they are otherwise the squad least able to be kitted out for it. The sarge doesn’t even get a chainsword. In support of that, I think they should have access to upgraded melee weapons (2 attacks base vs 1 for notmal troops as an example), assault type specials , and options to replace the lasgun with a carbine(assault, 18 inch range) or las pistol. Perhaps instead of specials, a trooper could take a melee upgrade like a power weapon or fist instead. The sarge of course, needs to be able to choose from a full suite of upgrades. His no melee weapon, only laspistol profile right now is just sad:( If they did this we would then have the final piece of the guard puzzle, for those dreaming of throwing innumerable hordes of useless chaff at demon princes. They will die under the weight of our sacred emperor’s imperial guard, buried under our numberless corpses.
  22. Well I played it as written. But I will say if I killed something out right... IE: a unit with it's HQ. I only counted it once. I mean to be fair the fix is easy: once per phase cap. And of course it's limited to the one Overlord holding it. The enhancements aren't bad in this one, and the Strats are okay and meaningful if used with good timing. Like I said, out OC'ing his Kopters was huge too. The other Enhancement I used was the one to get full re-rolls if their on an objective. Combined with Immortals I almost made this work! Lol (I was never able to fully fire at something on an objective, but it has huge potential.) The use case is so specific with this detachment, so in my opinion the payoff should be pretty good. I'm trying to convince myself to use it again. The detachment isn't easy to use, and I think I had a couple of bad units. I would keep all the appropriate key words but believe it or not this might be one of the best use case scenarios for the Triarch stalker. I do have one Triarch Stalker, and maybe I could pull the Lokhusts, but they were critical. Trying to fit in a Monolith is looking tough in this one BUT there is motivation for not only the movement, but also the -1 damage strat in this detachment for vehicles. Plus could you imagine the look on your opponent's face when you lay down the other strat that lets Triarch keyword Precision with a Melta 4 heat ray??!?!! I'm starting to think some evil things with this detachment. I don't know if they will work, but they fell very "Necron Appropriate" for my meta!
  23. Speaking of The Successors, I realize that this batch was much better than what we got back then except for the stories about the Consecrators, and of course, the brutal mogging that Sins of My Brothers performs on everything else. I can see this being bundled into another anthology, but the thing with anthologies is that they don't always get the theme right. Take the latest Galaxy of Horrors for instance, which was more of a collection about the latest BL stories. With a title like that, I expected better. And it is a waste of a titile because that could've been used for so much more.
  24. My name is WAR and I have been playing 40k since late 2nd edition. I currently own way too many Points of Grey Knights, Adepta Sororitas, and Inquisitorial/ Militarum Tempestus Support for 40k, Redemptionist in Necromunda, and Ravenguard for 30k.
