  1. Past hour
  2. I think GW's refusal to integrate FW/Heresy units into the plastic 40k lines (allegedly because of either complications in assigning internal sales numbers to the respective 30k/40k line when units can be used in both, or a turf war of not wanting the other line to benefit from model sales to be used in the first line) exacerbates the issue too. It prevents dreadnought-focused or hover tank-focused detachments, and if/when Heresy SoS get more units it remains to be seen whether they would fit in the SoS detachment.
  3. Think you'll find there's also a fair number of fans who wish to avoid change as well, or reverse them where possible. They are the ones who reward the decisions you're talking about. Personally I like change (yes, Tzeentch is my favourite Chaos God, why do you ask?) But at the same time, I can see all the factions in play here. Okay, I'm curious, UFO pile?
  4. Bullgryn nerf seems obvious; glad they hit those as spamming them doesn’t seem to me to be what a Guard army should be about. A bit sad about the Kasrkin hike. They were already iffy , and I don’t recall seeing them abused much in most top lists. I like using a squad or two and this probably won’t impact me taking at least one. Artillery needed to be hit. Our arty is straddling a razor thin line of being way too good, so if they hit them with a point hike and not a rule nerf, that’s fine with me.
  5. Nice changes from my point of view, although not much impact - my army went down 20 points (-40 for the ranks and +20 for the Kasrkin). I agree with the reduction to Russes. I’ve played a couple of games recently and they definitely aren’t pulling enough weight.
  6. The lore is just there to drive sales really. The first Dark Imperium novel was the most obvious example of this as you could practially hear them checking off the names of the new Primaris units. Some of the best writing is in the Horus Heresy series and even that is hardly great literature. I have made peace with this and just keep up with the elements that entertain me. At the end of the day I enjoy the models and the game. If some of the lore keeps me reading for a while, all the better. If not, I can just break out the paints and attack my UFO pile.
  7. It's done from laziness of a creation drive! Avoiding the hard work! It's much easier just to keep the story going with minimal "strategic" changes or occurrences. As long as the product line is making accepted profit (the dominance of profit versus quality), that is preferable versus exciting change that also requires talented creation to take on the new unknown. That sort of thing makes most "we want the riches now" investors very nervous and not happy at best. I can do a better job of that in hobbies I have more control over, such as Dungeons and Dragons, versus hobbies like 40k that are strictly controlled product lines. Yeah, comics are the same way. That fact is also an explanation of my waning interest in GW hobbies. It's sad that it's taken me more years than it should have, to realize this. lol.

  10. so this thread hasnt seen any action in a while :) with their cheaper points what do you guys think about deathmarks now? i dont understand why i dont hear more about them... their gun seems pretty great combined with deep strike. whats bad about them, the single shot?
  11. I think that this codex's underwhelming rules, in part, is a reflection of how small and one-dimensional the custodes range is. the sister of silence detachment, for example, is absolutely limited by the fact there's 1 SoS kit with three different weapon options. in comparison, an older and more established army like orks are able to have a larger number of distinct detachments due to a large range of kits that are already broken down into distinct themes/subcultures. I hope in 11th Talons of the Emperor get a large release wave. it really sucks that most of their army is FW stuff that's locked behind ever worse rules. As more HH stuff transitions to plastic, i hope that stuff like sagittarum, venetari, Caladus tanks, etc. receive plastic treatment, as well as the HH list of SoS models.
  12. To follow up on this, the scale of the game has changed and we can take a lot of units. I remember when I had a 2,000 Dark Angels point army of five units; three of which were Tactical Squads. I needed those special and heavy weapons. Hell, I can't remember the exact topic, but I posted a picture of the 2e Ultramarines army box list and a Devastator Squad was something like 400 points and a Tactical Squad was something like 350 points.
  13. 400 XP spent: +5 STR +5 AGL The train wreck that was Asterius dreamt "Better, stronger, faster!"
  14. They might just keep selling Stormrider and Logan. I can see them just dropping the new Logan sprue in Stormrider boxes and jacking the price, lol.
  15. Bullgryn have always rankled me ever since they were introduced. They've always seemed to be so damn good and I see them everywhere. I just find it annoying that when I see Imperial Guard armies on the table it's just big meaty ogryn slabs. Like the 2nd and 3rd place lists of the Oxford Supermajor both had 18 bullgryn in them with only 1 squad of regular guardsmen between both lists. I wonder if the irony of the main line of 'the human army' being made up on the tabletop of huge pseudo-evolved post humans isn't lost on anyone else. So no, I don't have a problem with the bullgryn nerf.
  16. Not while I still draw breath. I am the #1 Primaris hater, for a multitude of reasons, and I feel like I'm about to be vindicated if the rumors about range refreshes prove to be true. Perhaps they are saving it for 2025 Slanneshmas
  17. I guess because they mainly act as action monkeys in minimal sized units. In general I feel it is not bad for internal balance purposes. I still feel the humle sister mightbe abit overprice thoug.
  18. Starting the second half of the squad!
  19. I think less options is better. Customisation should still exist, but be more limited to visual options for squads. Whilst weapon customisation is fun, GW have never/will never balance a unit with a lot of variables. From an edition to edition, the best options are always shifting. Also, focused units are generally better in a wargame, whilst customisable units are better in a skirmish game. When you only have a single unit in a skirmish game, you want models that can perform different tasks. When you have an army comprised of 10 units or more, you want those units to perform a single task effectively. A single multi melta in a Tactical Squad is near worthless. A dedicated unit that puts out 8 Melta shots with dice manipulation is very effective by comparison. I feel bad for new players that buy a squad and equip some cool looking guns, only to discover those guys are sub optimal and the squad isn't as effective as it could have been.
  20. The points changes for Custodes are actually relatively minor - I assume they're indicating point changes relative to the page in the Codex rather than relative to the last MFM. In total: Aleya down 5 pts Knight-Centura down 5pts Trajann down 10pts Valerian down 5pts Venerable Contemptor Dreadnought down 15pts (Does anyone like this model?) 10 person Vigilators down 5pts Everything else is identical to the last MFM.
  21. I don't think I was prepared for how bad the Marine update was. Generally the army is performing from a poor to average level, outside of Black Templar lists. Lots of units could use a point drop, but were simply ignored. There are units that are basically never seen on the tabletop, and have not been adjusted. Happy to see the Dark Angels get a few drops. The Lion at 300 is pretty enticing.
  22. Sanguinary guard went down, but firstborn DC went up. Looking forward to maybe field some golden boys.
  23. think it depends on the size of game, in smaller games their free intervention helped them protect other units, I have quite enjoyed them honestly BUT they dont do a huge huge amount.
  24. How come they only hiked the points for two model units of crusaders and death cultists?
  25. My pure infantry army (the most un-competitive I run) went up 50 points. LOL
