  1. Past hour
  2. Long time lurker, recent member to the forum. I am primarily a Horus Heresy enjoyer, a Blackshield from the glory days of 1.0. I look forward to discussing all things Warhammer with you all, including, but not limited to, painting, lore, 3d printing, and janky rules interactions Cheers, Nemean
  3. Probably fancier Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs and regular backpacks, if they want to let them have a choice, I could see them not giving them a non Jump-pack option. Sternguard, but assault jumpy boys. I did like the earlier talk of perhaps an Omni armor variant, but I doubt they would.
  4. So with the reboxing of various titan classes, what is the consensus on Warhound load outs?
  5. Today
  6. Considering how Sternguard changed from Index to Codex, what would a fully revamped Vanguard squad look like?
  7. REMOVED: Super agree with ancient in Terminator armor. I really like the bladeguard ancient model, you're probably right that it's too niche, tho. Tac squads are dead already, definitely need to be consolidated I was talking about devies with my hobby store buddies yesterday. There's really no point to them these days either, but you can almost make a squad of them with primaris options, which is kind of fun to think about. I've been a huge fan of Vanguard Vets and Terminator Assault Squads since 4th. I can't let them go. Classic dreads def need to go, but Impulsors need a closed top variant before you sunset Rhinos. Open cabin Impulsors are dumb :cuss:. CONSOLIDATED: Everything you said here is on point. No comment. UPDATED/ADDED: I've never enjoyed having to rely on canon characters in play. I'd rather see all these guys take a back seat to other command options. Selfishly, I'd love to see a new Lysander though, since you mention it. The first founding Sons of Dorn don't get enough love. Hard agree on BA and SW upgrades. Most notably Sanguinary Guard and a better version of DC. SW could get away with an upgrade sprue. They're probably getting the next Loyalist Primarch too, whether or not anyone wants to see Russ return. I want assault terminators and vanguard vets. It's been downright embarrassing trying to field them alongside primaris boys for 2 whole editions. The deathwing knights are too good a teaser for them to just ignore assault termies, and the jump cap needs a bodyguard unit, just sayin'.
  8. Alright I think I settled in the sponson design and I leveled off the exhausts. I'm hoping that modge podge brushed on it will help seal the foam and make it easier to paint.
  9. 6 years later….. there’s a couple things left to add to them and a base for the turret , but they’re pretty much finished (geez I shoulda just done that all those years ago ) better pics later , next up is the fireblade to lead them … cheers M
  10. Ready to report to the LIon! Last model from the Wrath of the Soul Forge King box..... Since I already have a squad of intercessors done, I figured I'd knock out the old combat patrol box minus the 5 intercessors... And the chaplain to finish off the combat patrol....
  11. Ugh, it's fine, I did it to myself. I've been painting Chaos since I was 14 or so, I knew what I was getting myself into. Really tho, did the coolest faction have to have the most trim? I suppose that's the price Chaos fans pay for being objectively the best faction with the sexiest fanbase. And yeah, I absolutely love how much pop Plasma weapons can add to a squad or an army. I might do a whole Chosen squad armed with just Plasma weapons, but I also don't want to overdo it on the infantry. I already have 20 Chaos Marines, 20 Berzerkers, and 10 Raptors in the army, plus some Cultists. I did some digging and managed to find a couple photos of that Defiler I painted a couple years back. The quality isn't great, this was before I figured out what decent lighting was, but I'm still pretty happy with the result. It was for a Khorne heavy Black Legion army, so I worked some reds and blood into the look. I think I painted this crabby little fella in a single day, so it's hardly my best work, but I figure it's always fun to look back and see how you've improved and all that. I promise I'll have something much nicer to look at next time.
  12. Ramiel studied the flickering hololithe again, a low resolution image with thermal damage. "Well that explains how the Simple desert folk have been picking off our patrols." Both the Solar Auxilia commanders and Astartes shifted nervously. "I recognise some of the markings lord." Spoke one of the black clad legionnaires. "On Gaber, we would find xenos strung up in the jungles canopy with this glyph etched into their hides...those that still had them." He stabbed a finger at the shoulder pad of a skull faced warrior. "The locals had a name for them but id rather not say it, the translation was as crude as the word, but the gist of it was Id rather be hunted by what they hunt." A murmur ran through the command staff. A glance silenced them. "Thank you for your colourful insight brother." He said dryly, before he could continue one of the mortals cleared his throat, pointing to a grainy figure in the rear. "Melta weapons and lots of them my lord." A scribe tried in vane to improve the gain of the image. "And more krak grenades than we've seen in a month." Growled a senior non-commissioned officer playing with his bushy moustache, the comment got a chuckle from even the astarte. "It explains the loses of our armour, the terrain would let those kill teams get close in unseen." Added Icarus, a junior astarte eager to show his worth. Ramiel shut off the holo display, taking up his blade from his squire. The blade made a high pitched white as it drew across the rock floor before he stabbed it down into the ground. "Now we know who we face, it is now our duty to remind them who they face!" A cheer went round the gathering, lifting their spirits. Outside the cave, Ekateryn chuckled to himself as he finished posing the last of the sentries, two of them were still alive unable to wet their lidless eyes, tongueless mouths made a hacking noise. "Perfect." He sighed before turning to ascend the cliff face in silence.
  13. Plasma weapons really are a gift, aren't they? Great excuse for a splash of bright colour. Loving how this is all coming together. Sorry you have to do all that metallic trim!
  14. Also, conveniently, a coffee cup in case you forget your War Dog here's a full list though of 100mm models
  15. I'd be absolutely down to pick your brains about Persian themed marines. My homebrew chapter is Persian based IF successors.
  16. Took a peak around the webstore and while it's probably not a complete list, all these models are listed with a 100mm base For Chaos, I found Daemon Primarch Angron, Mortarion and Magnus, Skarbrand, Be'lakor, Lord of Change and Keeper of Secrets, and the War Dogs For filthy loyalists, it's the Gladiator, Impulsor and Repulsor, Amigers, and the Telemon Dread And for perfidious Xenos, its the Norn Emissary/Assimilator, Sporocyst I also realize now that you're asking specifically for robot models but I already typed this all out so you can appreciate my lack of reading comprehension
  17. I am asking because Micro Arts have a 100 mm Trash/Junk base which would be suitable for a large model which could join my Rust Bots. It doesn´t have to be a GW robot. 3rd party retailer clanker would be fine too. So does anybody know of a non-Necron robot model which could use such a base?
  18. @Trysanna: Thank you. Great question! And good observation about Canadians during the First World War. I do not know, but then again I have only read a couple of Black Library works that touch on Iron Warriors. Has anyone spotted anything? If there is at all anything that specific inspired by Canadians, then it might possibly deal with assault squads and breaching teams. The historical references are written all over the Death Korps of Krieg and all manner of Imperial Guard regiments down to very particular things so that it is easy to talk about historical army in space down to aesthetic details, but with Iron Warriors the historical references have usually been more general and subtle as far as my knowledge goes. @Terminatorinhell: Thanks. Good idea. I wrote this because an artist friend, Igor Levchenko (renowned in Elder Scrolls circles and with a fantastic knack for a classic oil painterly impression) asked if I had any thoughts on Iron Warriors/Corpse Grinders. And because I told a local friend (let's call him JAB) about what I wrote to master Levchenko, only to become surprised when JAB not only said that he had never thought about it or even heard any Warhammer discussion about the WWI-inspirations for Iron Warriors before; but he even said that he had never heard about the mutinies, the hunger problems and so on at the end of the Great War. And he is more learned about history than most people. Stunned, I brushed up what I had written for Igor Levchenko and set out to spread the word about something that was blatantly obvious when I first read about Iron Warriors in their White Dwarf article at about age 14. I will give other Chapters and Legions some thought, and hopefully return with something with meat on the bone later on. Fully agreed on Persian theme. Speaking of which, I have had to restrain myself from going on a 40k equivalent of the historically based culture spree I've done for fantasy factions in the Ninth Age. Otherwise I would do nothing but churn out drawings and background for Persian Marines, Ethiopian Imperial Guard or Sisters of Battle, Byzantine Stormtroopers, Moche Chaos Squats, Sikh Imperial Guard, Finnic Exodites, Nias tribe Tarellians, and so on without end. Instead I have contented myself to make use of such themes in drawings focused on other matters than the background of specific regiments and Chapters (see Descendant Degeneration here on B&C or look in the 40k section of the gallery and play find the historical references - tip: Soviet and late antique Roman ones abound). Cheers
  19. That's pretty cool, you should do some on other chapters too. I do wish they had a more Persian based Legion
  20. If you want an Example, Andy Chambers was one of the main writers of the BFG Rules and later worked in Dropfleet Commander. You clearly see where His skills as Game Designer evolved or he had more freedom.
  21. Yesterday
  22. Really like how brutal the terminator looks, your off-white on the black remains quite striking. And I quite like how you managed the skin on the praevian! He looks really weathered.
  23. I read the initial post very anxiously, because I feared it would announce the closing of the b&c. Luckily this was not to be. Happy anniversary bolterandchainsword.com !
  24. I'm at about 2600 words and still have a few more things to fill in, what most surprising to me is how quickly the fluff is coming together. When I started collecting knights they were just an additional force to my marines, and I had a vague idea of an anime style young pilot. My big challenge is finding some models to represent my pilots (everything is either too risque or so wildly different from the 40K aesthetic). The other issue I've ran into is just what to name the new knights I'm going to build, my usual come up with a word in a foreign language then stretch and distort it into 40k'ish name feels like it's gonna quickly come up short, but changing things to a more standard style of name also feels weird given the already set history of these names in previous battle reports and the 2017 Iron Gauntlet. So instead I'm working on pilot profiles and will let future me deal with it. Go Future me, I believe in you!
  25. Fantastic write up, thanks for sharing. I've always loved the references to WW1 that the Iron Warriors have, and it's always interesting to see what informed certain factions and their identity. This might be too specific, but have there ever been any references to Canada's role in WW1 within the faction? Not that anyone was playing nice, but at least here we have a reputation for being a bit nasty
