Echidna Bane

ECHIDNA BANE

Slayers of fear

Echidna Bane Marine

Homeworld: Uttuko, Hylarin sector, Segmentum Pacificus
Geneseed: Raven Guard, Raven Guard mentors
Founding: 19th
Colour Scheme: Pale green and black
Symbol: Black bird
Current Strength: ~700

O

A product of the 19th founding the Echidna Bane are simply the end result of a standard chapter founding.

G
eneseed

The geneseed of the Echidna Bane is unstable and often throws up anomalies and aberrations in equal measure, however their is no consistent trend that would indicate the geneseed is becoming non-viable, nor is the incidence of mutation of a significant level to worry the chapters apothecaries. In fact the more extreme the mutation the better, as this gives the apothecaries worthy test subjects for study, and the scout company can use these aberrations to hone their hunting and tracking skills. The downside is that the chapter takes longer to select and indoctrinate new aspirants, so significant losses will require more time to replace than most other chapters. This is a contributing factor to the policy of low input high gains the chapter has adopted.

C
ombat Doctrine & Organisation

Standard codex practices and Raven Guard tactics were the norm for the first few millennia, however after the ascension of chapter master Tyrell they began to alter their modus operandi. Less overt, more covert, they began to reduce the number of troops sent on a mission, rarely appearing in more than squad strength, and then disappearing off on their own. Many Imperial commanders, expecting significant reinforcement were left frustrated and disappointed that their erstwhile allies seemed to have their own agenda separate from their current needs. The chapter now consider themselves to be hunters of larger game than frontline enemy grunts, to the extent that often only one marine is dispatched to deal with an enemies leader leaving other forces to handle the rest.

C
ombat Doctrine & Organisation

The chapter does not follow standard codex practices and has even gone so far as to specialise in one form of engagement, namely spaceborne conflict, to the exclusion of others. The chapter maintains a very limited vehicle pool, preferring to rely on pin point airborne deployment, meaning very large numbers of Thunderhawks.

B
eliefs & Customs

Less dour than their Black Templar mentors, the Scions delight in working with their fellow Astartes brethren, and have an easy going attitude to the customs and practices of other chapters.

Kephen

H
omeworld
Kephen is a populous and productive civilised world coreward of Terra, it was reclaimed by the Emperor in the first wave of the great crusade, brought into compliance by the Ironhands, and has been a loyal subject of the Imperium for millennia. It is also dying. Kephen though comparable in age, is smaller than Terra, and as such its core is beginning to cool and solidify, meaning its magnetic field is weakening and volcanism is all but non existent, thus spelling the end of its habitable phase. The Mechanicus have begun to install technologies that will allow the population to survive in a harsher less hospitable environment but these measures are not expected to be completed for centuries.

G
eneseed
The Geneseed of the Obsidian Blades is stable, being of Dorns stock, though the desire to shape and carve small items has manifested quite powerfully in some battle brothers.

C
ombat Doctrine & Organisation
The Obsidian Blades, unlike most other chapters have the use of mole transports, relics left over from the Heresy, abandoned and forgotten in deep caverns beneath the surface of Kephen. The pride of the chapter being two Hellbore heavy moles, repaired and restored by the chapters techmarines, now the preferred transports of the chapters first company. The rarity of such vehicles makes for a powerful and demoralising entrance, while the rest of the chapter descends from the skies amidst blazing heavy support fire, the first company rips the heart out of the enemy from below. The chapter employs a larger than usual number of whirlwinds and vindicator variants as well as some of the more archaic support weapons, thudguns, rapiers, tarantulas and mole-mortars, whose teams are always accompanied by devastator squads.

For smaller engagements standard codex practices apply.

VILIFICATORS

Duty is eternal

Tactical marine

Homeworld: Dorns Hold, wild space, Segmentum Pacificus
Geneseed: Imperial Fist, Black Templar mentors
Founding: 24th
Colour Scheme:Yellow, black upper body and helm
Symbol: Imperial fist symbol with v on back of hand.
Current Strength:~2000

O
rigins & History
The Vilificators are a crusading chapter, not created as such, but due to the influence of their Black Templar mentors. They are active all across Pacificus engaging in numerous planetary conflicts and fleet actions. Such dispersal has meant that imperial functionaries have not managed to garner the true number of marines in the chapter, but conservative estimates place it around the 2000 mark.

Dorns Hold

H
omeworld
Their battle barge was damaged during a warp transition and was forced to make an emergency(crash) landing on a small moon orbiting a gas giant. The ship survived remarkably well, but would never fly again, so rather than abandon it, it became the basis of the chapters new fortress monastary and the moon was renamed Dorns Hold.

Bright Host & Black Host

Tactical marine

Homeworld: Ardulla, Elcamara Sector, Ultima Segmentum
Geneseed: Ultramarine, Aurora chapter mentors
Founding: 4th
Colour Scheme: White
Symbol:

O
rigins & History

An old and noble chapter the Bright Host ceased to be when their homeworld of Ardulla was steralised by a gamma ray burst from a near by supernova. Made even more tragic by the fact they had successfully defended their world from an assault by Chaos forces, and were in the process of rebuilding their world. No more than 50 marines survived.

Ardulla

H
omeworld
Ardulla was a verdant and fertile world rich with life and valuable to the Imperium, however the unexpected cosmic event left it a barren cinder of a world. With few other natural resources and no human inhabitants remaining, the entire system was abandoned by the Imperium, though not by the Bright Host survivors, who would return to Ardulla as the Black Host to reclaim the relics they left behind.

BLACK HOST

Tactical marine

Homeworld: Perscus 5, Elcamara Sector, Ultima Segmentum
Geneseed: Aurora chapter, Bright Host mentors
Founding: 23rd
Colour Scheme: Black
Symbol:
Current Strength-1000
O
rigins & History

The Black host was formed by the remnants of the Bright Host chapter, a second chance to persecute the will of the Emperor, a chance that few chapters ever receive and one they were determined to make count. The early history of the Black Host is one of constant warfare, a list of engagements and victories that many established chapters would be proud of.

Advocates of Truth

ADVOCATES OF TRUTH

Only the servants of darkness fear the light of truth

Tactical marine

Colour Scheme: Halved orange and white with gold detailing

O
rigins & History

Formerly names the Advocates of Faith, a near fatal falling out with the Ecclesiarchy motivated them to change their name, their outlook and their dealings with that branch of the Imperium. Only the intercession of the Ultramarines stopped numerous ultramarine successor chapters being drawn into all out war with the Ecclesiarchy, and the destruction of an entire chapter. In a court of their peers The Advocates were found to be wholly innocent of all charges levelled at them by the Ecclesiarchy, and were provided with all the help required to get them functioning as a viable chapter by over 50 chapters loyal to Guilleman.

G

The genesed of the Advocates has a proven record of stability with no recorded instances of mutation, and strict implantation rituals keep it that way. Much of the chapters stock of geneseed was lost during the war and they have been slowly rebuilding their reserves.

C
ombat Doctrine & Organisation

The combat doctrine and organisation of the Advocates is based entirely upon the great works of Guilleman, as might be expected of a successor chapter of the Ultramarines. They are for want of a better description purely codex in all aspects of warfare.
B
eliefs & Customs

They hold the Ecclesiarchy and all its works with utter and violent contempt believing them to be nothing more than, cynical self-serving defilers of the Emperors good name. Where ever possible they will pursue any infraction or divergence, by servants of the Ecclesiarchy, against what they perceive the true will of the Emperor with joyous lethality.

Neubya

H
omeworld

Neubyah is both lush and desolate, harsh but beautiful, a world undergoing extreme climate change due to the planets main star getting hotter. It is at the centre of the most obvious manifestation of this change, Gu’s Anvil, the vast central desert of the planets only sizable continent that the Black Pharaohs can be found. The Chapter fortress is actually an orbital station known as Ijuru- the concealed land in the sky, Ijuru is tethered to the planet by a vast space elevator. A throw back to the golden age civilization that flourished on Neubyha before its climate changed. The only foot print the Pharaohs have on the planet itself is at the base of the elevator around which they have constructed three vast Pyramids of black glass, white marble and gold. This is known as the city of gates of god.

G
eneseed

The geneseed of the Pharoahs is that of the Dark Angels, and as such remains both stable and pure.

C
ombat Doctrine & Organisation

Chapter organization is based on the 12 companies of the Space Wolves however the Pharaohs have 12 tribes, each based on one of the 12 tribes from which they draw recruits. Each tribe is a mix of warriors from the many tribes of Neubyha this is to show they have left behind the petty differences of their first life and now serve only the Emperor. Upon becoming a marine a tracker shaves his head and discards his own tribal colors for those of his new company. Each tribe also has its own totem which is displayed somewhere on the armour, often on the right shoulder pad.

Each tribe numbers roughly 10 squads and are, with a couple of exceptions, a mix of fast attack, tactical and devastator units. The exceptions are; the first company, the 13th company or scout company, the 6th company which is mechanised cavalry and the 8th company which is an airborne assault company. Even though it is a mix of different types of unit, the number of units varies so their may be a propensity towards tactical or devastator but there will still be at least one squad of each. Often tactical squads will simply swap their normal weapons for either close combat or heavy support depending on the situation.

B
eliefs & Customs

All marines have bare pates over which a golden skull cap is worn, scouts, known as trackers grow their hair long and braid it elaborately. The scout sgts are known as hunters and they sport close cropped hair dyed red. Chaplains have dog headed helmets, as dogs are believed in Neubyhan legend to be guides of the underworld, releasing the spirit from the corpse and escorting it to Ikuzimu and the throne of Set juok lord of the dead. To this end it is the custom on Neubya to take corpses into the wilds and left for the hyenas so the souls of the dead can ascend.

Initiates are sent into the wilderness for a year and a day after they have received their first implants to explore, learn and perform acts of bravery. They are also expected to breed with fertile virgins so as to ensure good stock for subsequent recruitment. Their deeds are tattooed onto their bodies(whatever said deeds may be) by the medicine men of the tribes they associate with during this time. The will also be initiated into manhood during this time as they would have been taken by the pharaohs before they came of age. This involves much drink and potent hallucinogens.

Soozan

H
omeworld

Soozan, despite its serene and welcoming appearance, is a death world. Its warm and shallow seas are teeming with toxic fish and poisonous serpents, its lush jungles filled with giant arachnids and its swamps are fetid diseased places rife with parasites, man eating plants and even larger arachnids. It is only upon the vast mile high mesa's that human life has flourished, the atmosphere is to thin to support all but the most harmless of Soozans flaura and fauna, much to the populations great relief.

G
eneseed

The geneseed of the Ultramarines has provided the chapter with the boon of stability and purity, and the Pegasus Guard have shown no signs of mutation or genetic degradation.

C
ombat Doctrine & Organisation

The Pegasus Guard follow the codex religiously, however seem to have missed or overlooked some of its finer points when it comes to implementation. One thing that was particular to the Pegasus Guard was that the entire first company rode into battle on gleaming gold and white jet bikes, a technology and sight rarely seen on the modern battlefield post Heresy.

B
eliefs & Customs

The Pegasus Guard were, some would say, an arrogant, vainglorious and callous chapter who consider most of humanity not worth saving, that adulation and worship is their due, and that collateral damage can not be avoided. But while they do view large portions of the Imperiums population with utter contempt, this has never stopped them from carrying out their duty to the Emperor with vigorous zeal, just perhaps to vigorously and to zealously. They were often seen to be rash, indifferent of the lives of lesser troops and to overconfident, underestimating their enemies strength while overestimating their own, in short they are dangerous to work with. And for several millennia this remained the case, victory after victory only cementing their beliefs, any failure was often minor and overlooked, with those responsible severely punished and the incident forgotten.

All this changed in M35 as the Apostasy swept across the Imperium, and the defeat the chapter suffered during one particular engagement against a supposedly inferior enemy. The memory of that incident has never been forgotten and serves as brutal reminder that while pride is a good servant it is a poor master. The chapter that emerged from the ashes of that catastrophe was not the same one that was born during the 8th founding.

B
attle cry

None. They do not verbally acknowledge those they deem beneath them.
