    • Is this for pre-assembled and/or painted items?  I can see it with books as they seem to lose value fast, but £14 for something like a new condition Land Raider Proteus on ebay seems implausible!
    • UGH I don't super want to do this but it's been bothering me since I've come back and I just can't not address it. I'm SO SORRY for the length. I swear I tried to be brief, I tried to just do bullet points but I am compelled by forces beyond my control to subject you (the mods, mostly) to another god damned essay. Okay, the topic of this ungodly :cuss:ing mess of a post/suggestion/cry for help: The misgendering policy here sucks and should change. Content Warning: I'm going to have to talk about queer people and trans people specifically because while anyone can be misgendered, more on this later, that's where the discussion is and I can't talk around it. I also shouldn't have to, queer people just existing isn't inherently political, nor are topics like gender or sexuality. They can be and have been made political, but I'm not talking about any administrations or official stances by any party or government, I don't want to bring politics into this, I just want to address an issue I have with the site and to do that I'm going to just have to mention queer people. I'm very intentionally not being political, trust me, I could make this political very easily and no one wants that. I just care about people and want us as a community to be better. Okay so just a thing to keep in mind while talking about this because while this again doesn't exclusively affect trans people it's where the conversation is and what it's really about, and I feel like people should just take some stuff into account when discussing or just thinking about the act of misgendering. This is a bummer and I'm sorry. Trans people have a suicide attempt rate of 42%. Not thought about, that's way higher according to the research we have on the subject, attempted. Please, please sit with that fact for a second before moving on. Yes, this is an appeal to empathy, yes, it's a little sappy or cringe or whatever, I don't care. Near half a marginalized community have attempted suicide. Please think about that when talking about them. Reference: UCLA article Taylor & Francis I haven't seen it done yet, which I love, good job not being a dick waffle everyone, but stating outright that you won't make any effort to correct a user intentionally misgendering another doesn't sit well with me. It's not a good look, and it allows people to just get away with the :cuss:ty behaviour of misgendering. Furthermore, it's a pretty big red flag for queer people looking into this space and existing within it, especially trans people. To look at a space and to see, as a general statement, that if someone decides to be specifically transphobic to you, that no one will step in. Like, just a casual admission that transphobia is fine here isn't a great look. Misgendering negatively effects the mental health of trans people and leads to higher rates of suicide. If an act actively harms the mental well being of someone, that act shouldn't be accepted. A fairly simple and easy thing to agree on, I would hope. I know this seems like a big deal, and it is, but it's so so SO :cuss:ing easy to check this stuff on a text based website. You can just look at their pronouns right below their avatar, and if they have them stated, and someone has used the wrong ones, just quietly correct them. Edit their post or just ask them to. Remind them that misgendering, whether intentional or not, sucks no matter who you are and move on. If it keeps happening you can take whatever sort of action you would if someone was being a mouldy croissant in some other way. Not to diminish the importance of the mods or the work you put in, but that seems incredibly trivial in terms of work load if it were to happen. Again, I want to stress that I haven't seen this behaviour yet, I haven't seen anyone get misgendered, which is great! Love to (not) see it! But stating that if it were to happen, the mod team would never step in and deal with it in the same way you would with any other :cuss:ty behaviour really sucks. It's just basic bullying, this isn't/doesn't have to be that complicated. I know some people are scared of pronouns or whatever but they're just part of the English language. You might as well be upset at the concept of adjectives. Respecting someones pronouns should be a no-brainer in the same way respecting and using someones name should be a no-brainer. I know this has been made political but, truly, I don't think this is any sort of deal. This is the smallest of molehills. This is kindergarten level stuff, isn't it? The differences make us stronger as individuals and as a community. This site, this community, welcomes all hobbyists. I hope you'll take what I've said in the spirit of those words. I know how much this stuff is talked about in the world right now, I know a lot of people are tired of hearing about, either in the context of the endless debates or just being tired of having to acknowledge queer people as a concept, I know just bringing this up at all risks someone throwing a hissy fit because I'm woke or political or an SJW or whatever, I know I've brought up related subjects so I guess I'm part of the problem. Though Warhammer, both the setting and fanbase, is becoming a bit more queer by GW's own admission and it's clearly not something they're going to go back on if Mike Brooks is any indication. And we should be able to accept that and do the bare minimum of making sure they feel respected and safe in this environment. And I wouldn't have felt compelled by cosmic forces to bring this all up if there simply hadn't been a section on misgendering. It became an issue for me when it was acknowledged that this :cuss:ty behaviour does exist, but that nothing would be done about it. I know this is a lot of words but I'm just trying to explain everything around the issue to give the most complete picture I can on the subject. Like, I can get other queer people to take a look at everything I've written and give their own comments if that would lend more weight to what I'm saying? Or the queer people on this forum could comment their thoughts on the whole thing if they feel so inclined. I don't pretend to speak for every queer person on the planet or in this community or on this forum, and I don't want to. As our principles make clear, this community promotes inclusivity. Being inclusive takes a bit of work sometimes. It takes a bit of reevaluation, to sit down and actively listen to someone elses experiences and thoughts on a subject. And not just me! Please, actively go out and find other queer people in this community and get their input with this stuff. Misgendering primarily effects trans people. Did you talk to any trans people when writing the rules around it? And I also want to ask how often does this stuff comes up? How often do you actually address someone on a forum in a way where you could misgender them? "Oh that Grotmash, she sure is a stinker." Like, you can just read that? It would be weird to talk about someone like that on a forum they can also see? Like how obvious is that, that I'm going out of my way to misgender someone? *I actually never asked, so if it turns out that you do use she/her please pretend I used he/him or some other pronoun. And I know that the policy goes on to say that the B&C isn't the battlefield for this, but why is it a battlefield? It's just the simple act of respecting of someone, of who they are. Trust me, this isn't going to suddenly become Tumblr with a ton of different neo-pronouns, y'all aren't gonna have to start using fae/fem all of a sudden. (Tho again, neo-pronouns have come up in multiple BL novels at this point so maybe just get used to that being a thing) And you could ask why, if it won't come up, is it a big deal? Well, please go back to the top of this ungodly mess and reread those two articles, actually read them and understand the personal experiences behind the numbers. Even just the discussion section of the Taylor & Francis one. Think about that 40%. Think about how much work you would have to put in here to intentionally misgender someone. Like you'd have to go so far out of your way to do it! And it's so easy to just check and quietly correct it and again, 40 god damn percent. Like, the misgendering policy is so specific, you make sure to say that you don't care if it happens while claiming to be a welcoming space. Can you not see the contradiction there? Queer and trans people aren't going anywhere, and the concept of just using someones pronouns shouldn't be a touchy subject. I cannot stress how much queer people are not going away, from any aspect of life, so it's better to deal with this now instead of putting it off and, intentionally or not, perpetuating the bad reputation Warhammer has for queer people. That's something maybe I should bring up, 40k has a really bad reputation among the queer community, especially it's fanbase and how it treats queer people/subjects. We should be aware of that and accept where we fall short. And I have fallen short too! No one is perfect, we all make mistakes or just don't think or don't ask or whatever, it's totally fine to misstep, lord knows I have. I went to school when South Park was big, you think I haven't had some bad opinions? Some hot takes that would get me in trouble on twitter? And do you really want a setting where everyone is exactly the same anyway? Where no author or writer ever explores the idea of what gender could mean to a completely alien race? Do you really want the Eldar and Humanity to be completely the same in regards to the idea of gender? Do you really accept/want an ancient magical race of space elves crafted by old ones and who live for thousands/tens of thousands of years to have the exact same concepts and opinions and societally accepted norms of today? Do you really want a fantastic space fantasy setting to be that boring when it comes to gender? The Eldar being able to change their bodies and adopt a new persona and walk a new path, becoming a whole new person, is fascinating! They do the same thing with some of the Ghouls in Fallout, some get bored with life and just make a whole new version of themselves. The Eldar are essentially magic, it would be so easy for them to just change their body on a whim. I feel like so many people who are so vocally opposed to queerness in this setting, or any setting for that matter, are missing out on some really cool stuff because they see the word gender and freak out. Star Trek has been doing this stuff for ages. Why do you think potions of gender swapping are a thing in RPG's and fantasy settings? Do you really think sci-fi stories of body swapping/replacement are always so literal with what they're trying to say? Like ah, I would enjoy this story of a person changing who they are and becoming a new version of themselves, dealing with immortality and a thousand lifetimes, dealing with the endless ennui of eternity, but they said something about gender so I don't like it. ARGH Would you really go an eternity and never, not once, think to live as a different gender? Just for a while? Just for fun? With the ease of freaking space magic to help? I refuse to believe some of you would be that boring. Just, plain ass cheese pizza EVERY time forever and ever and ever?? Actually?? Sorry, I know I'm wildly off topic but again, this stuff is all sort of related. Thankfully I've reached the end of my incoherent ramblings. I guess in short, the misgendering policy kinda sucks and I'd suggest changing or removing it to better promote a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ people and trans people specifically.
    • Entirely predictable and I’m now completely indifferent to it.   I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - this is why I buy almost everything from eBay nowadays. I can’t remember the last time I stepped into a GW or Warhammer store and bought something other than a pot of paint, because they priced me out of their stores a long time ago.    Let other people pay the inflated prices and take advantage of their FOMO and impulse-purchases when they sell them on eBay at a steal later. The amount of stuff I’ve managed to get this year at a quarter of retail value is nuts.   Edit: just added it all up:   Leman Russ tank x 3 £120 Chimera £35 Infantry £30 Command £27.50 Heavy weapons £30 Age of darkness £185 Heavy weapons £28 2 x special weapons £56 Land raider proteus £55 Liber Astartes £42.50 Liber Hereticus £42.50 Plus another HH bundle containing not sure what but at a minimum: 60 forge world marines - even plastic would be at least £135 3 contemptors including one with a resin chest plate £137.50 5 cataphractii £20 10 resin lascannons £35 And a ton of iron warriors FW shoulder pads at least £100   Total value £1079+   Total spent £230   Just be smart and patient with your money and don’t pay GW prices.
