    • RAVEN GUARD – TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS DETACHMENT RULE The trifold path of shadows teaches the Sons of Corax to wear the shadows as an extra skin, and can move with complete silence even when girded for war. Yet they must also understand the limits of stealth, and know when to cast off its concealment in favour of headlong assault. At the right moment, deception must yield to fury, and secrecy to wrath.   If your Army Faction is Adeptus Astartes, you can use this Trifold Path of Shadows Detachment rule.   RESTRICTIONS Your army can include Raven Guard units, but it cannot include any Adeptus Astartes units drawn from any other Chapter.   BORN TO SHADOWS Accomplished in all arts of hidden warfare and the skilful balancing of stealth and aggression, to fight the Raven Guard is to be at war without knowing it.   Instead of placing units into Strategic Reserves you can instead declare units are on the Trifold Path. These units gain the Scout 6” ability. Designer Commentary: The Trifold Path effectively replaces Strategic Reserves. You use the points allowance to give units Scout 6” instead of being able to bring units into the game at later turns.   RAVEN GUARD – TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS STRATAGEMS   Shooting Phase Fight Phase 1 CP Armour of Contempt TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS – BATTLE TACTIC STRATAGEM The belligerence of the Adeptus Astartes, combined with their transhuman physiology, makes them unyielding foes to face. WHEN: You opponent’s Shooting phase or Fight phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.   TARGET: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks.   EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time an attack targets your unit, worsen the Armour Penetration of that attack by 1.   Shooting Phase 1 CP See, But Remain Unseen TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS – STRATEGIC PLOY STRATAGEM To fight the Raven Guard is to battle half-seen spectres. Only at a time of their choosing do they step from the shadows to engage the disorientated foe. WHEN: You opponent’s Shooting phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.   TARGET: One Adeptus Astartes Infantry unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks.   EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time an attack targets your unit, subtract 1 from the hit roll. Until the end of phase, the target unit cannot be targeted by enemy units more than 12” away.   Shooting Phase 1 CP Watchful Precision TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS – EPIC DEED STRATAGEM Ambush and stealth are empty doctrines unless guided by the knowledge unceasing vigilance brings; the Raven Guard seem to know their foe’s every weakness. WHEN: Your Shooting phase.   TARGET: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army.   EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time the unit makes a ranged attack against an enemy unit, it can ignore any and all modifiers to hit and wound rolls.   Movement Phase 1 CP Sudden Ambush TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS – STRATEGIC PLOY STRATAGEM The Raven Guard strike from the darkness without warning, granting their foes no chance to react. WHEN: Your Movement phase.   TARGET: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army.   EFFECT: Until the end of the turn, your unit is eligible to Shoot and eligible to declare a charge in a turn in which it Advanced.     Command Phase Movement Phase Shooting Phase Charge Phase Fight Phase 2 CP Stranglehold TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS – STRATEGIC PLOY STRATAGEM By the time the enemy engages the Raven Guard, their rear lines are already in the talon-grip of the Chapter’s covert vanguard, choking them off from vital battlefield support. WHEN: Your opponent uses a Stratagem.   TARGET: The used Stratagem.   EFFECT: Until the end of the battle, increase the cost of the targeted Stratagem to your opponent by 1CP.     Movement Phase 2 CP Preternatural Stealth TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS – STRATEGIC PLOY STRATAGEM The deadliest strike comes always from the least expected quarter. So taught Corax. WHEN: Your Movement phase, before you have moved any units.   TARGET: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army with the Infiltrators ability that is not within Engagement range of an enemy unit.   EFFECT: Remove the unit from the table and deploy it anywhere on the table that is not within 9” of an enemy unit. The unit is not eligible to declare a charge this turn, regardless of other rules.   RAVEN GUARD – TRIFOLD PATH OF SHADOWS ENHANCEMENTS   SUPPLICANT OF THE EYRIE The lords of the Chapter only enter the highest chambers of the Ravenspire at times of dire need, hoping to commune with an echo of Corax’s departed spirit. It is impossible to say whether such an echo lingers, but all agree that a brooding presence seems to infuse the Eyrie. Of what guidance they do receive, no supplicant speaks.   Adeptus Astartes model only. Once per phase, you can re-roll one Hit roll, one Wound roll, or one Damage roll made for this model or a unit it is leading.   SHARD OF ISTVAAN Following the Raven Guard’s escape from Isstvan V at the outset of the Horus Heresy, Corax gifted each of his surviving Legionaries with a shard of his shattered armour. Though most of these shards are now lost, some are still preserved in reliquaries or worn as talismans, each one acting as a potent source of hope and courage.   Adeptus Astartes model only. Melee weapons equipped by this model increase their Attack characteristic by one. While this model is leading a unit, increase the model’s Objective Control characteristic by two.   ARMOUR OF SHADOWS The beautifully crafted plates of this mysterious armour articulate without the slightest sound, while its power pack emits barely more than a purr. Stranger still, a cowl of shadows seems to hang around the wearer, billowing like smoke when they move.   Adeptus Astartes Tacticus model only. Ranged attacks made against this unit cannot Critical Hit and cannot benefit from the Precision ability.   ENVELOPING DARKNESS The Librarians of the Raven Guard are amongst the most reclusive and unfathomable warriors of their Chapter. Stalking the battlefield as half-seen spectres, they bend the very shadows to their will, sowing fear and confusion amongst the foe.   Adeptus Astartes Librarian model only. Enemy units hit by a ranged attack from a weapon with the Psychic ability that the model is equipped with subtract one from Battle-shock tests until the end of your next Command Phase.
    • It also depends on what you want to get out of it. Take the SoH Long March for example, the limitations are just heavy units in transports or in reserve but with the amount of units on the Legion roster it's easy not to take them and just enjoy the benefits of infantry and dreads getting +1 movement and termies becoming non-compulsory troops who gain outflank. Most of my SoH concept lists use that because the only heavy units I have are the Leviathan and Deredeo dreads (which I haven't built yet) but with how strong dreads are in 2.0 I probably won't be using them both in the same list anyway.   On the opposite side any of the default RoW require you to build your army and theme around them, PotL is good but the units you want to take are costy and you may have a small model count at the end. Armoured Spearhead gives you the chance to be like Rommel and load up on tanks but on smaller more terrain dense boards this may be a issue and bog you down.   There's also the mindset of 30k, it's meant to be a game where you make your army based around a theme and the fluff of your force.
    • RAVEN GUARD – BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON DETACHMENT RULE The Raven Guard First Company consists of some of the finest assassins and stealth masters in the Imperium. The Blackwings easily incorporated Cawl’s Phobos pattern equipment and put it to excellent use; decapitating enemy campaigns before they can begin.   If your Army Faction is Adeptus Astartes, you can use this Blackwing Assassination Talon Detachment rule.   RESTRICTIONS Your army can include Raven Guard units, but it cannot include any Adeptus Astartes units drawn from any other Chapter.   VETERAN FOCUS The Blackwings are the mightiest warriors of the Raven Guard, renowned above all for their mastery of assassination. Many a tyrannical warlord has thought himself safely ensconced at the heart of his forces, only to meet a swift demise at the hands of the 1st Company.   Weapons equipped by Phobos Infantry units and Suppressor Squad units have the [Devastating Wounds] ability.   RAVEN GUARD – BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON STRATAGEMS   Shooting Phase Fight Phase 1 CP Armour of Contempt BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON – BATTLE TACTIC STRATAGEM The belligerence of the Adeptus Astartes, combined with their transhuman physiology, makes them unyielding foes to face. Shooting Phase 1 CP See, But Remain Unseen BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON – STRATEGIC PLOY STRATAGEM To fight the Raven Guard is to battle half-seen spectres. Shooting Phase Fight Phase 1 CP Honour Within BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON – BATTLE TACTIC STRATAGEM The sons of Corax place little value in outward display, shunning conspicuous tokens of rank or privilege that have no practical utility in battle. For the Raven Guard, honour is held in the soul, buried deep so that its glimmering attracts no unwanted attention. WHEN: One of your units targets your Oath of Moment target.   TARGET: One Adeptus Astartes Phobos unit or one Adeptus Astartes Suppressor Squad unit from your army is being set up with the rules for Deep Strike.   EFFECT: Until the end of the turn each time a model in this unit makes an attack that targets your Oath of Moment target, add 1 to the Hit roll.     Shooting Phase Fight Phase 2 CP Lay Low The Tyrant BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON – EPIC DEED STRATAGEM Those who would abuse their strength to oppress the weak and humble are amongst the Raven Guard’s most favoured prey. WHEN: Your Shooting phase or Fight phase.   TARGET: One Adeptus Astartes Phobos Infantry unit from your army.   EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, weapons equipped by this unit gain the [Precision] ability and any wounding attacks allocated to Charater models improve their AP by 1.     Shooting Phase Fight Phase 1 CP Decapitating Blow BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON – EPIC DEED STRATAGEM The Raven Guard are experts in swiftly picking apart the enemy command structure and seizing upon the discord and confusion that results. WHEN: An enemy Character model is destroyed.   TARGET: One enemy unit within 12” of the destroyed model and any unit the destroyed model was attached to.   EFFECT: The target unit or units must make a Battle-shock test with a penalty of one. If the destroyed character started with a Wounds characteristic greater than 4, the penalty is two. For each unit which fails their Battle-shock test, you gain 1 CP. Designer’s Commentary: Regardless of data-slate update, you can regain more than 1 CP this way.     Charge Phase 1 CP Raven’s Blade BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON – BATTLE TACTIC STRATAGEM Raven Guard enacting this ancient tactic focus all their aggression on getting close enough to lay their blade’s across the enemy’s throat. WHEN: Your Charge phase.   TARGET: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army.   EFFECT: This unit is eligible to declare a charge in a turn in which it Advanced. If the target unit selects an enemy unit with Character then add one to the Charge roll.   RAVEN GUARD – BLACKWING ASSASSINATION TALON ENHANCEMENTS   OPPRESSOR’S END Wreathed in a shimmering power field, the monomolecular edge of this unassuming blade has cut short the reigns of countless oppressors, tyrants and demagogues.   Adeptus Astartes model equipped with a combat knife or paired combat blades only. Improve the Strength and AP of the model’s equipped combat knife or paired combat blades by 1. In addition, the equipped weapon gains the [Precision] ability and has a Damage characteristic of 3 when resolving attacks against a Character.   EX TENEBRIS Ex Tenebris is a masterwork bolter fitted with an incredibly sophisticated telescopic scope system. Chapter legend has it that the weapon was forged by Corax himself, as a gift for his wayward brother, the Night Haunter. But the Horus Heresy turned the two Primarchs’ Legions against one another, and Ex Tenebris was instead borne into battle by heroes of the Raven Guard.   Adeptus Astartes model equipped with instigator bolt carbine or master-crafted bolt carbine only. Once per game, at the start of your Shooting phase, choose a point on the board. Increase the equipped weapon’s Attack characteristic by 2.   SHADOW MASTER As a follower of the Path of Shadow, this warlord strikes from the darkness without warning, granting his foes no chance to react.   Adeptus Astartes model only. While this model is leading a unit, your opponent cannot use the Fire Overwatch stratagem to shoot that unit.   FARMOON VIGILANT The Blackwings have another duty; one steeped in mystery and shame. It is they who guard the entrances to the Ravenspire’s forbidden Apothecarion on Farmoon Night, holding solitary vigil lest the bestial howls that fill its ancient corridors spill forth in physical form. They develop a preternatural sense of awareness and nothing escapes their notice.   Adeptus Astartes model only. Enemy units that are set up on the battlefield from Reserves cannot be set up within 12" of this unit.
