This article has been created to help Raven Guard players, or any player with a bird-like symbol, to create reasonable insignia with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of style. There are two versions presented here for your use:

Painting a GW-like Raven Guard insignia

Step One

Draw a white triangle, this will serve as the Raven's body:

This tutorial was created by Cpt. Stahl, he's currently fielding or planning armies for the Iron Warriors, Raven Guard and Space Sharks.

Step Two

Add a small diamond at the bottom, it'll be the Raven's tail & claws:

Step Three

Back to the top of the triangle, paint a small curve to the left, it'll be the Raven's head:

Steps Four & Five
Top Tip!
For a nice smooth white over the black try a couple of thin coats of white or lay down a light grey basecoat before going over that with your white.

Draw the wings. Normally I do this in two stages as you see below:

Step Six

Fill the outlined wings in with white:

Step Seven

Paint black lines along the wings (2 for each), a dot for the eye, a small line on each side of the diamond for the tail, another hooked pair for the claws and there you go :

Painting a stylised and simplified Raven Guard insignia

Step One

Paint a white pentagon:

Step Two

On the pentagon, paint two black "6", the second, on the right, is inverted - this forms the basis of the head of the raven:

Step Three
Top Tip from Kurgan the Lurker
Those with shaky hands might want to consider using a Micron Pen to draw in the thin black lines, many find them easier to use than a brush loaded with paint for fine work.

Paint two black stripes on each side for the wings:

Step Four

On the lower edge of the pentagon paint another set of two black stripes, for the tail and the claws. When you're done it should form a rough diamond shape:

Step Five

And finally, after some corrections and tidying up your insignia is finished!
