same, ive only painted my bionics silver, there are nore details on the iron father such as small wires and such, but if you paint them they dont look as bionic. ive nearly got anothere marine for the command squad finished, so i should have pics up tonight depending on how much i get done (ive pretty much just got the base to go). fyi, its the first guy in the WIP command squad group shot about 3 picture posts up.

He looks great man, I love the chest cabling. One problem though, the bionic leg's knee is bending sideways...

it is too, i know the GS job i did wasnt brilliant (you can see it in that photo where its not really smooth) but i didnt notice (until now) that it was a little crooked. oh well, you cant really tell when you look at the minnie itself so im not too fussed. thanks for pointing that out tho.

As strange as it sounds it doesnt seem that crooked, it seems more articulated towards an actual knee joint rather then a bionic ligament, but that could be just me in my inhebriated state misjudging things  darn whiskey! Thats an excellant head on a side note, I cant seem to recognise where it might be from (iron warriors set?), or is it a conversion? Great mode on the whole :)

ya, the head came from the iron warriors set. i just cut and filed off the horns. im not too keen on the head now that the model is painted tho. makes him look like a cyclops. im going to experiment with some others and see how i go (i have another iron warriors head im gonna try, then some bionic plastic SM ones)

After reading the thread i have a few things to say.

1. For your limited resources, your conversion work is wonderful. I like the original dread conversions and the bionics look very bionicy.

2. Your paint jobs are pretty good but i wish there was more contrast on the models. Make the bionics not all silver with just ink lines seperating everything. Also just black and silver models can be pretty dull as well. also your edge highlighting is a little to thick for my taste, but it looks good.

3. Id like to see some more pics, different angles, your dreads individually a little close.

4. id like to see some sort of list on what your planning on using in the army etc.

5. Surely there is a website that can ship to you that sells plasticard and other hobby supplies that you can order from. Also for chain you may want to try a costume jewelry shop, they sell cheap chain.

My 2 cents, cant wait for some more progress.

thanks for the reply Jeff.

1: ive worked up a fairly large bit box, i also have a pretty long attention span, and a great imagination (which helps a LOT)

2:im still getting the hang of highlighting, so the lines thickness varies a lot (even tho this is the 3rd army that ill have done with highlighting). regards the plain-ness of the models, im trying to combat this with use of the bright colours and more white. i do however like the plain-ness of them, but each to there own ay??

3: give me a list of models, and angles and ill take some pics for you and post them up.

4: the list is mostly done, ill add it to the OP when its done (im aming for about 3000pts so its apocalypse ready)

5: i have been doing a fair bit of research into that of late, but a guy on a tech forum i visit offered to get me some stuff locally and post it to me, so im gonna take him up on the offer. im also gonna ditch the chain idea, im gonna try using rope instead (not real rope, just fuse wire thats been twisted to look like it)

im going to start painting up some (fairly) vanilla flavored servitors tonight so ill get pics of those too. and im also waiting for my predator to arive along with some bits to finish off the last command squad guys

EDIT: know a good method of painting red cloth??? im still not quite sure how im gonna tackle that aspect of the servitors.

also, know anywhere that i could get some missile looking objects, im goin to convert my own whirlwind but thats the only thing i need for it.

Here's a nice way of doing red, and if you follow the link, you can see some beautiful Ad-Mech models which could be of inspiration...

Could you talk us through the process of painting the infantry? You’ve achieved a very clean, baroque appearance, which I imagine some of our readers will be keen to emulate. Are there any secrets to getting such great results?

Obviously the most important thing for painting the Adeptus Mechanicus is the red. I tend to avoid Blood Angels red, as it can end up looking far too orange if not highlighted carefully. I start with a basecoat of scab red. Over this, I apply a strong wash of 80/20 Red gore/black, this lets me avoid shading, and it basically turn the whole cloak a dirty dark red. From this I start highlighting up with thin opaque layers of Red gore.

That techmarines of yours, is it an older model? Can't seem to find it anywhere. Nice paintjobs aswell! Just love bionics. :D

the red techmarine is just the standard one, but the guy that is pretty much all bionic is the Iron Hands iron Father model (with the bolt pistol hand converted, and a new backpack with servo arm made). as far as i know wthis model has been discontinued. the Iron Father model was released about 4 maybe 5 years ago, but is getting harder to find, thats why i recycled my old one from my original iron hands army.

also, i didnt get to update again last night coz i went to the pub with some friends for trivia (and no, i didnt get drunk, i only had one beer, im not a big drinker)

So that's why I recognised it, My friend has one of those. But his theme sa basically just the GW bionical ironhand parts with their special shoulderplates. Unfortunatly he's not a big hobbyist, so his army is just sprayed black and brushed with metals. Ive been trying to get him all inspired with your models but I guess it's all for nothing.

I'm guessing you have some blueprints for some vehicles somewhere back there aswell? :D

its funny how people just wont paint an army. of the 20+ members of our warhammer club, about 3 (me included) paint there armys. and im really the only person that does any conversion work.

yeah, ive got a predator sitting here that ive started to build. just not sure how to go converting it without access to plasticard. i could use cardboard, but its not smooth enough for what i want, but ive got a new idea so it should be good. ive also got an idea for a whirlwind, but i NEED plasticard for that one, and about 8 of the spare missiles form the whirlwind kit.

alos, there wont be any updates tonight coz ive going to my local warhammer club for the night. ill deff do something tomorrow tho (w00t for the weekend!).

also still waiting for GW australia to re-release the Iron Hands tactical squad so i can start doing the tactical squads and get me some chapter shoulder pads for the command squad.

I' making a similar one ot the old 3:rd ed, guessing you're aiming for something like that?

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk232/Frozac/IMG_5149.jpg

What i will do with mine is to cut of the back of the rihno and fit it with a missile turret similar to that one that will fold in again into the body of the tank. If anyone of you have the old 8 bit nintendo game TOPGUN and have read the manual (which has nothing to do with the game basically you'll find a similar tank of witch I'm taking inspiration from. Havn't seen it for ages though.

++ Edited to add ++ :)

I got so inspired from you Ironfather that I started digging different webstores all night for one and finally found it, in mint condition and all! :D

It will be arriving sometime next week, Not sure i Like the head though... May change it for something better... I was thinking maybe the CSM Lord head without helmet. :)

Anyway, I Whish you best of luck tonight! May the Omnissah guide you troops to victory!

thats sweet, but mines gonna be way differant. the missile launcher will be inside the tank, and can be viewed through the rhino's top hatch.

the head on the iron father actually looks rather good, but the eyes are a little funny. itd make it look wierd if you changed it IMO.

anywho, i finally have an update, here is the start of my predator. its still got some work to go before its done, but for me to take more photos ill need to find a new se of batteries for my vamera, it just died while i was typing this!

anywho, here is the tak so far:

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0096.jpg

i also did dome GS work on the front of the pred to make the armout plate from the mk1 rhino look like its meant to be there. ill take some pics when its complteted tho.

the libs. leg was my first foray into any major GS work (before this it had just been minor fill ins and stuff like that), and im very pleased with the way it turned out (see hip and knees). anyway, here are some straight on pics. if you want other angles, let me know and ill be more than happy to take them :teehee:

The librarian looks awesome! Lovely bionics and green stuffing too. A lot better than mine :D . And the flamer... totally badass :P .

By the way, how thick are the cables you have been using on the bionics? I'm trying to find some same looking for myself you see ;) .

Loving it! Can you get a back shot of the libby per chance?

The flamer-boy looks great. My only real issue is the right shoulderpad... It just looks like it could have gone down further... (feel completely free to prove me wrong though... :))

These are really coming along nicely. I love the Apothecary, the pose and dead marine really sell it. Sadly all I can think of is Purple Snakes! (from a bad joke involving the What's Inside It? club following someone getting gutted and look . . . purple snakes!)

The flamer guy is incredible, I assume its a heavy flamer? Either way though, I love the look, and the tassel as flames or smoke rolling out is an awesome idea. :P

okay:

@kikkala: i use guitar strings. the brass ones are acoustic guitar strings that are .48", and the silver ones are bass guitar strings, and i think they are .42" thickness. the white tubey bits are some single strand bell wire, some of which was been stripped to make pistony sorta things. dunno the thickness of it off the top of my head. have a look on ebay, you can get the guitar strings really cheap (i.e. 4 packets of 6 differant strings for AUD$20 plus postage)

@weiss: one back shot of the lib coming up the sarvo when i get home from work. and, no, the right shoulder pad doesnt go down any further. im also thinking of changing the legs of the flamer guy, as he looks too sort and fat to me, but i have no more legs left, so its gonna have to wait.

@Lucrosium malice: yeah, its a chaos terminiator heavy flamer with a new end and trigger thingy (made from a CSM heavy bolter thats been cut up). the tassle is from one of the CSM bare heads. itll only count as a normal flamer to keep it by the rules. im not too happy how the "guts" came out on the dead guy, but hopefully itll look better once painted.

EDIT: Also, im taking that you guys not noticing that every model (accept two) have the same left bionic arm from the commander sprue, is a good thing.

EDIT2: il also be buying some of the iron hands tactical squads to bulk out the troop choices soon as GW aus have started to re-stock them.
