Of Nihm and Night Lords

Brother Nihm

Recommended Posts

So Call of Chaos IV is on (link in sig).

What to paint next:

Despite the fact that I have about 5000 points of unpainted chaos plastics lying around, it wasn't hard deciding what to paint. I need another Rhino for my latest build (and my old predator->Rhino proxy is looking worn), so a Rhino it is. Add to that I found the awesome Terminator Lord kit that while sucks on the tabletop, screams for paint. Last but not least, a Chaos Sorceror, Night Lords style.

You can see my old Rhino here and here. The idea is simply to make the new Rhino look better than the old.

I'm thinking more realistic wear and tear, crispy lightning, better metals, kill-trophies and freehand (if there's time). Any other suggestions?

The bits:

Here's the current state of the vehicle,

if you can find a way to add detail to the rhino, not so much of it that it coats it, but enough to break up the giant plain surfaces, you may be able to play around with it mpre and get more interest out of it

metals are easy...i highly recommend you and everyone else to look for vallejo air chrome, its fantastic for brightening and highlighting any metal....as for shading you can get away with using the washes ...but dont just splatter them everywhere, try and place them...darkest next to brightest...devlan mud and badab black are great....if you need further darkness use a black paint for silvers over the washes

as for freehand, you could gather ideas from these, while i know youd have to adapt them, if you save the photos and zoom in you will see the vehicles not perfectly blended, but at a distance looks phenominal(props to chrono)

id mainly focus on paint quality, avoid flat colours, highlight, shade and so on, try and get your vehicle some shape and depth

Need to take a new picture, will edit later.

Every Chaos Lord needs a solid foundation to stand on:

I am not entirely sure that I can make the next bit work. It is inspired by the Sorceror from DOW II.

Nice use of the Dark Eldar blades, if I'm not wrong.

Loving that sword!
Thank you, I'm still not entirely sold on it myself. It depends on how the greenstuffing will go.

You are correct!

Brother i like this may i copy that sword
Go for it.

Split-bladed sword, impressive. You've got a good start there on capturing the look.
:thanks:

May, update #2

icon19.gif Project: Chaos Rhino

The promised picture, I threw away the headlight bits so I'm pondering adding all of the FW extra armour to it.

I have started on the interior (for fun).

Baby steps. Come to think of it, I may use this base for my Sorceror instead.. :)

Speak of the Devil!

I wasn't happy with his robes (too plain) so I blinged him up a little with some added trinkets.

Heyhey looking good there Nihm! The sorcerer is really getting fixed up good. I like that he stands out, but is still plain and clean.

The opposite of BA blood-drop and ornament-spamming. Thumbs up!

Nice work on the pendant :D

Cheers!

would the chaos warrior helm with the skull mask have worked also....keeping to the fear theme.. ?

also if u were going to use the terminator lords base for ur sorceror, I'd would have used the walking robed body for my sorceror.... but maybe that's just me.

just say no! to the bat wings....lol

loving the sorceror brother the add trinkets really makes it stand out.

what colour did you paint the rhinos interior?

That is a 50-50 Regal Blue/Necron Abyss mix, subjected to the horrors of a camera flash. ;)

Thank you, good call on the ornament spam!

The sorcerer is looking very cool. Really liking that sword as well!
:P

this one? I am not so sure, the lower jaw doesn't appear to fit with the rest. Maybe with a re-sculpted lower jaw?

Good point, rules-wise it would also be better to mount him on a small base.

Agreed, it was never one of their better ideas. :P

Nice progress on the sword so far. The horns seem a little low; they look as if they are sprouting from where the jaw would hinge. It looks a tad awkward to me.
Agreed but size-wise they had to be that big and angled thus unless I wanted to scratch build them, which is beyond my abilities.

The head reminds me a bit of Mannoroth from Warcraft.

More updates on the Termie Lord soon.

June, update #2

icon19.gif Project: Chaos Rhino

Status unchanged.

icon22.gif Project: Chaos Terminator Lord

He's undercoated + I've started on the legs. I also tried to bring more depth to the trims.

gallery_11038_549_74760.jpg

icon22.gif Project: Sorceror Lord

As above except that I am considering painting his robes a deep red, to offset the blue helmet (that will otherwise look plain next to the blue robes). Any thoughts or alternate suggestions?
