My Night Lords (Counts-As Blood Angels) Army

Got my camera working, so as promised here are the assembled marines. I will note that there is one among them that is NOT fully assembled, and that is the meltagunner from Green Squad (4th Claw). Also I'll be going back through every model again with a fine-toothed comb to find any mold lines. So without further ado, here's LPC Update number 8!

This is a relatively small update as far as model count and progress, but it's a giant step in what I attempt as a painter. This post is because I have tonight finished my first ever attempt at freehanding, producing the following Night Lords shoulder pad:

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i285/kaika87/freehandemblem1.jpghttp://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i285/kaika87/freehandemblem2.jpghttp://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i285/kaika87/freehandemblem3.jpg

I would immensely appreciate feedback, comments, criticisms, any responses, as I have never attempted anything like this before. That said, I don't think I did too bad for a first try!

Thanks! It took me about half an hour, I'd say, but I had sketched it before so I knew sorta what I'd be doing. Also the shoulder pad had already been painted blue and used as a prior test when I was learning how to do lightning, which worked out well.

Now I guess the question becomes whether I can consistently produce the same results.

So it's been a while since I last posted an update here. Progress the past couple weeks slowed down for other commitments. But I have made progress now, and down below is the promised unit-by-unit status, and also I also have a youtube video! I posted this for a random-drawing contest, quality of video didn't matter, but it's a showcase of my army progress so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI7Ltkuqnkc

As I said in the video, I honestly have no idea what to do for my vehicle color schemes, and I'd really appreciate any ideas for a Night Lords vehicle pattern. Since posting the video I assembled the second Razorback.

 maybe the red is a bit wierd? Thats my only minus!

The other painting on the razorback looks very good! I'm guessing lots of lighting on the vehicle also?

Can i suggest using the dragonmounth from the chaos vehicle sprue as weapon mount?

Something like this:

Yea, the red is a bit too bright, I used blood red, but I think I'm going to try repainting it with Mechanicus Red or Scab Red even.

Also, yes, I intend to use the chaos vehicle head mounts on the heavy bolters, the Razorback is quite a ways from finished.

Quick late-night Monday update, to show off something important! Without further ado...the entirely-in-progress armored column of the Night Lords!

Also, just because I'm making slow progress on him, too, the Librarian (sans-jump pack):

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i285/kaika87/20120305_225729.jpg

I'm deliberately trying to slow my progress on him because it's nice to break from the monotony of assembly-line painting to spruce up a character model. Even so, I'm running out of stuff to do on him. But more importantly, with the armored column purchased and assembled, I now have none of my checklist as "Not started" anymore! My goal for next Monday is to convert SOMETHING of this list into "Complete!" We'll see if I can make it.

Commander Dante - Complete!

Mephiston - Complete!

The Sanguinor - Complete!

Librarian with Jump Pack - Complete!

Librarian without Jump Pack - In Progress

2 Sanguinary Priests with Jump Packs - In Progress

Sanguinary Guard - In Progress

Well it has been a relatively uneventful March for my LPC. I finished painting my Sanguinary Guard, gave two more of them the winged jump packs, and for fun, I worked on conversions for a second squad of Sanguinary Guard. But that's not part of the LPC, so I've set them aside for the moment and am kicking it into high gear. Between Monday and Tuesday, I can proudly say that Assault Squads Red and Tan, the Sanguinary Priests, and the second Librarian are all Complete!

Tonight, I'll be finishing up squads Green and Black, and if there's any free time afterward, getting the last two winged jump packs on the Sanguinary Guard to wrap them up. In the meantime, pictures!

Posting my obligatory Vow Complete picture proof. There is a technicality that I would like to know if it makes me fail my vow. As I was finishing my last Baal Predator last night, the one in the back that has the hatch open, I realized I was missing a hatch. I still am short one tank hatch, and I have no idea where it went to. I hope this doesn't make me fail my vow, because it would be a really dumb way to finish out this very fun project.

Now then, onto the evidence.

*dusts off the thread* So who are these handsome devils then?

This represents my first foray into the wide world of greenstuffing. That shield on the lead guy started life as a normal storm shield. It actually came out a lot better than I expected after it was painted. The rest of the terminator still needs work though.
