Mk5 Marines Army - Angels of Vigilance

Greetings,

I may or may not have mentioned this previously, but I have decided to start a Mk5 army of Angels of Vigilance (see avatar for scheme). It's not much to start off but I hope this will grow as I get more work on the army done.

Here is the first of the marines that I have (almost) completed. He'll be a sergeant for a tactical squad and is based off the test scheme model I painted up earlier.

I've been thinking about what to do with the other pad, and I think I'll just make it a normal pad with the edging even though the mk5 didn't have it. This is basically to make it easier for me and so that I can paint the company colour around the edging if I so choose. Also, the head isn't glued down so I can position it better if need be.

The left arm isn't quite right but I think it'll do for a sergeant and he'll blend in to the unit/army once I get more stuff assembled.

Thanks for looking.

*If a mod could move this to the WIP section, I'd appreciate it*

Yep, that's a nice build.

Though I've always thought the AoV were a DA succesor? I expected them to be using the DA company markings. (This way you could put an even more fluffy trimless pad on his shoulder :) )

If you are going with the standard markings, 5th company would be the way to go, i think (black trims).

Looking forward to see some progress

I like yellow marines!

I've taken some shots of a couple colours of seals.

The first is the same green as before:

The second is a darker red:

I'm not sure which one I like better.

The yellow is as follows: Basecoat Bestial Brown, 2-3 layers of Iyanden Darksun, 1:1 or so Iyanden Darksun and Bestial Brown way watered down to an ink like consistancy over top. Highlights with Iyanden Darksun and Bleached Bone.

The yellow with either the red or green looks fine. But the coloured cabling makes him look to colourful, as you have red, yellow and blue all at once on him. As it is now you have all the primary colours next to each other. I think you need to limit your palette a bit. You could use yellow, green and blue next to each other without problem.

Let go of one of the colours and he will look great.

It's happened and I knew it would. I've hit a snag and have lost most of the urge to paint these guys any more. I need to come up with a consistant colour for the wash over the armour and I can't seem to make one. I've been painting the head of the 2nd test marine and it's a shade off from the 1st test marine and the body that it belongs to.

If anyone can suggest a good yellowy brown paint that would be good for the wash, I'd be greatly appreciated. If not, I'll be moving on to something else, for now anyway.

Why don't you mix a new pot with your wash? This way you could keep the mix consistent throughout your army. Another thing to consider while doing this might be using eyedroppers to note the ratio as precise as possible, in case you have to mix it again. You would have two slightly different shaded models, but the rest would be uniform.

Otherwise Bubonic Brown or Vomit Brown might be the right shade.

This might be of help as well:

@Durus: I think I might use one of those 2 colours you mentioned, I forgot about them.

@Terminatorinhell: Thanks, you may see more SoG from me at some point. Also, I'll do your army next, for a fee .

Next time I'm at GW, I'll pick up some paint and start again on these guys.

Not as good as the 1st one IMO, but he'll do for a regular trooper.

Greetings,

I've begun work on a Mk5 Tech Marine. I don't know if I'll end up using the model, I may if I use vehicles with this army or get a couple dreads.

Anyway, here he is:

Neither the head nor the backpack are glued on.

I've done another marine for the army, didn't want to go the regular two handed bolter so I did this:
