Sword Bearers WIP

El-Diablo

Recommended Posts

Well, I threatened to get some Sword Bearers wips up and now im making good on that threat.

Im aiming to have updates (real life permitting) every 2 days or so - If you don't see something new every couple of days please bug me until I submit.

So far i've managed to paint a combat squad (see link in sig), and i've only got backpacks to clean up before everything gets mounted for spraying the second combat squad for tactical squad 1.

Im aiming to get each combat squad doing something in the army. To this end, combat squad 1 (with the sgt and plasma gun) are giving covering fire to combat squad 2 (with the missle launcher) while they sprint for cover.

First, the sgt,

and the rest of the squad.

Once these are done i'll work on a rhino for them, but that will probably be assembled before these get sprayed as it isn't exactly optimum spraying weather at the moment.

Im aiming for a full company of these guys so it should make for a fun (read painful) project.

If I can actually manage this miracle, i'll reward myself with a thunderhawk.

Comments, critisisms, and the like are welcome.

A Sword Bearers Thunderhawk would be neat. I'm liking these guys; you've managed to make them look quite imposing without resorting to true-scaling or anything else. You've obviously given some awesome thought to their positioning and posing and that shows. I like the Sergeant, too.

Looking forward to hearing more.

Well I sucked at the 2 day thing. I did manage to get another pair of marines finished though, as seen here.

As for wip's, 3 more marines have been undercoated, with the last 2 bolter armed marines for squad 1 next on the block. I'll leave the sgt for last as I want to spend a bit more time on him getting it right.

For now though, the first rhino is ready for paint.

The tactical arrow on the top plate is plasticard, and the chapter symbol is GS.

All the usual comments welcome.

Wow, im actually impressed. Im putting up some wip pics. Im sure that needs come kind of EU clarification but i'll just hope they don't see me. :D

I managed to get the sgts head done while waiting for pizza at lunchtime, pretty damn good pizza it was too. And the face didn't turn out too bad either.

I also managed to get some more done on the newly named 'Sgt Elisar'.

Just details left really, then its onto doing the back banner. Im looking forward to that as much as much as having my brain dribbling from my ears.

Once he's finished i'll start the rhino while assembling squad 2.

The usual comments, critisisms and death threats are welcome.

Looks good. I like my pizza, and I like your faces, too. Thumbs up.

I hadn't seen that Rhino before - it looks good. Clean, well-ordered, like all the Sword Bearers thus far. Nice use of (what appears to be) a Black Legion shoulderpad on the base, too. That ties in with the ideas you'd discussed with me.

I've made some basic progress with the Chaplain, but i've hit the usual snag that all chaplain builders come to - which crozius?

Im leaning more towards the second one, it looks a little more brutal than the more traditional one.

I've still got some GS work to do on the haft, and there's going to be a long purity seal looping around it.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Much as I like the second one... I have to say go with the first.

It's much more traditional.

So far, all the markings and heraldry and everything else you've done is very basic, traditional codex, so... why buck the trend?

I love everything you've done so far, by the way.

I guess it's really up to you, as I think either one will look great once you've finished it.

See, I sorta see it the other way. The majority of the Chapter is Codex-adherent, and it's little touches at the edges that allow Midian to express the character of the Sword Bearers. He doesn't need to make them wildly divergent - he doesn't need to make them different in order to make them distinct, if you know what I mean. The idea of the radiant skull can be exploited by Midian to give lots of possible options for his fluff.

Commissar Molotov hit it right, with it being different than the traditional crozius's,so i say also go with the second. The second one does look like it would do more damage.Hope to see more progress of your great looking army.

Seems like number 2 then.

Thanks for all the input on this, hopefully i'll come up with some more wip shots later.

@Commissar Molotov - did anything come to you fluff-wise on the non-traditional crozius? I get the feeling you were trying to hint at something but i've not got a clue. Either that or you just want to see some fluff. Im going to attempt a brief character piece for the chaplain so i'l PM you when its done.

Perhaps he has a personal belief that the enemies of the Emperor are not worthy to touch the Eagle. The skull symbolizes the death he brings the his enemies.

Dunno... just throwing ideas out there.

Why didn't I think of that? Cheers LoneWolven, I think im going to try and squeeze that idea in if it fits.

Very nice models. I especially like the rhino. The simple modifications and additions to the model make it very nice indeed. I can't wait to see some paint on that one.

I'm working on a DIY chapter, (Void Knights) that has very similar fluff from the sound of it. In fact, I was getting ready to post a rough draft of the fluff for the chapter this weekend.
