4x4 landspeeder

BobPanda

Recommended Posts

hi there.

i recently ordered 8 warthogs from macfarlanes' halo3 series1 - edition.

the reason was, that i was still searching for a wheeled, fast looking crosscountryvehicle as a landspeederreplacement for my planets local defensetroops.

---

i already started converting the first one, but of course it's still extremely wip. ... , but i think you'll get the idea ....

some of them -3- i got from an ebayshop. another 5 from a german internetstore which sells cinema-fan-articles.

....

so depending on your homecountry, i'd try ebay first.

11€ each for europe and 13$ for the u.s. should the prices at the moment ... ;)

It looks more like a puma! :D looks fantastic mate. When I first read the title I thought it said landraider so when I looked at it I almost fell over laughing but now that I've paid some attention I do realise it looks great.

They look ace! Get some paint on 'em!

Is the passenger gonna be sat down normal or like how the passenger does in halo  I dont have a pic of it atm though. How much converting needed to be done to the warthogs apart from removing the minigun? (love those things)

"Hey Griff, how 'bout Chupa-thingy? I like it. It's got a ring to it."

Nice work too. Have you thought about auto-cannons? or missile racks, or are they going to be as is. Either way they look sweet. It looks like you used assault legs on the gunner, but I'm guessing you had to use a saw or something on the seated marines.

Make sure to name one Puma ;)

As a thought though, you could make one doing a Dukes of Hazzard jump and have the gunner guy with one arm up, like the marines from Halo.

I love the Warthog. Always makes me hum Steppenwolf.

Nice!

After finally getting an Xbox 360 and Halo 3 last week, I really like the warthog. They look so cool!

The Space Marines fit in really well.

i used the lanspeeders seats n' legs.

simply unmount the complete warthog with a screwdriver ... this can be done very easy, because the only thing slightly glued is the windowsection.

than cut the landspeederpart to fit exactly into the cockpit from below. depending in whar angle you want the marines to sit in their seats you might will need to cut something from the landspeeder part's downside or otherwise the warthogs bottom plate might no more fit correctly.

the gap between the the landspeederseats and the warthog can be filled with instruments or display according to your individual preferences. the most complicated thing is to find different realistic arm positions for all 8 warthogs, that i'm about to build ...

.

but to build a copy of one i already did would take me about 15 minutes, because imho it is very easy todo and there are not many things that need to be done at all.

the hardest thing is to get enough of those damned landspeederparts without buying one landspeeder for each warthog-conversion ...

...

with the next one, i'll try to make enough photos for providing a short tuturial what patrs to cut and glue where ...

well in germany, where the warthogs are relatively expensive it costs at least the following:

- warthog: 11€

- heavy bolter: 50cent

- marine + arms: 1,50€

- landspeederseats: 2,50€

- driver and copilot: 2€

-

he prices for the bitz are avarage prices, when buying the bitz seperately.

if you buy a landspeeder instead you'll also get all bitz needed, but the reargunner and with the speeder.

the additionaly vehicleequipment available depends on your bitzbox.

than take the bitz needed from the speederkit and sell the remaining parts to e.g. a friend.

-

in the end you'll end up with almost the same cost as when simply taking an ordinar landspeeder instead of converting the warthog.

but hey ... :P ... this project's not about saving money, but about buiding a cool looking and unique army ...

i dont think putting arms around eachother is allowed in space marine fluff. but its starting to come together

somthing i would love to see is the passenger holding a flag just like in CTF, with either halo marking or your squad markings. if your going to use it for a game you could always magnetise the arms to swap between boltgun and flag but honestly it wont matter because you cant use the boltgun anyway

quick edit: if you do try make a flag make sure hes waving it around like in halo :P

edit 2: and halo warthogs are known for flipping crashing jumping spinning. you should consider some kind of jump or ramshackle. if you got halo3 go play it and see how hard it is to drive a warthog smoothly and you will see

Thanks and good luck!
