Mortis Custodis...Heresy-Era Death Guard!

PlagueBearer

Recommended Posts

Hi to all warhammer players that praise Father Nurgle!!!It is my first posts on this forum even if I have been a member long before...

Anyway I have to say I was a member in the deathguard.org .I was sad it shut down and I hope it will one day be working again.

I have been playing warhammer 40k for 4 years now and I started of with Nurgle and that will never change!I already have a big Nurgle army but the last few months I have been working on my new project which is heresy era Death Guard.I have named them Mortis Custodis which is Latin for Death Guard.I also used the renegade militia from FW like many others.I had a bit of a problem with the mark on their shoulder pads and I have not finished them yet since they still need some detail done and a few finishing touches here and there.I also have a Baneblade which I will post when it is finished and I also have two vindies that will be posted when I start painting them. Also I have more troops that are still in plastic and green stuff mode but they will soon be painted also.

Nice work :P

Thanks dude!Your DG also rock!I especially love the Cthulhu GUO and the job on all vehicles!!!I have a Baneblade coming along but it's scheme does not match that ofmy army's.It has more of a camo like green color than white on it.But I am thinking of maybe adding some white to match the rest. Are the models you have painted also your army list?

Great models. I really like all the bold, classic colors, and the dirty-ing up of the white.

And not to get technical, but wouldn't these be 'Heresy era' Death Guard? There doesn't seem to be anything 'pre' about them.

I agree with the above statement. These are more in tune with heresy era deathguard that have just recently turned to nurgle, hence no mutations or anything of that sort. Its good stuff though, some of the painting seems a bit thick in places and I see some mould lines on the pistols in the first pic. It also never hurts to drill out your bolters. :D

third'd lol

they have choas insignia in their breastplates and one is carrying an icon

so heresy era suits them better

other than that they look great :)

i really like the way you've done the colours scheme, its crips yet not at the same time

clean but dirty

just adds to the heresy era persona

Unfortunately though I had some eye infection and allergies.Because of the allergies I couldn't paint because the paint made my skin itch so work has been held back....:(But Logically I will catch up next week hopefully!!!

I also got 2 vindicators I am eagerly waiting to paint.....I just cant wait!!!!

Hail to all Warhammer Players and especially to the followers of our God, Father Nurgle!!!

It has been a while since I last posted and since I last painted because of summer vacations!!!I had also caught an eye infection so painting was held back a bit...

But at least I finished a Vindicator and I have only some finishing touches to do at my Death Guard Plague Marines. After some thought and research I found that latex gas masks rot and change their color to a yellowy old color. So I tried to paint most of the gas masks like really old ones. That is why they are yellow.Plus I believe it makes the model stound out more than just a black gas mask.

The vindicator came out nice but I will add mud and some kind of numbers from transfer sheets and I would like your opinion to help me out with this one small thing...Should I do some battle damage? Some scrapes and scratches???

Anyway here are some photos....

Looking great!

Personally I prefer to add battle damage to models before painting them, the vindicator looks really good as it is and it's quite nice (and unusual) to see an unscathed Deathguard vehicle.

Perhaps save the damage for the second tank ;)

I still have one more Vindie and I am going to get a Predator. They are going to be painted the same way but I might paint one damaged or something.I will try it out to see how it turns out...

It has been a long time since I last posted on the forum any of my work due to some circumstances. But I am back and my Pre-Heresy Death Guard a.k.a. Mortis Custodis are getting bigger and wilder by the day!!!

I have finished my Baneblade which is nothing like the one I presented before.I painted it in a more whitey collor to match the rest of the army and I also got 30 Forge World Death Guard Torsos and Shoulder Pads.

I have only undercoated them and I am now painting them.

As a guy waiting for his (first) FW Death Guard conversion kit, I must say your marines are very inspiring.

I wasn't sure if running legs ('zerkers or assault marines) would look good with (low initiative) Plague Marines.

And they totally do.

Cool.

Thanks for sharing your pics, and keep up the good work !

:o the def :P

Thanks!!!

The reason I chose and added some running legs was because I wanted some movement in the army.I wanted some models with a bit action to add to the looks of the army.

I have posed them as if they are charging or about to strike the enemy.

I have been painting them a few days now so I might post some photos tonight of what they look like.

Here are todays results after some painting.

I divided the number of models in half so that I can paint them in groups. They will all share the same colors so squads will not be a problem to create.

First I painted the right shoulder pad and then the left.I have only painted the ones that have boil like spheres on their pads. They fly ones will wait...

I then painted with Mithral Silver all metal parts such as tubing and shoulder pad rims.I then gave all a wash with Devlan Mud.After that I painted on top with Skull White. The models where then painted with Camo Green on the decorations on their legs. Not all of them have gone through this procedure yet but I guess I will have finished them tonight.

So here are some models to update my work and how my Mortis Custodis are coming along...^_^

Here you can see the before and after. On the left after the wash with Devlan Mud and then after the white paint job...

Abit blurry can I think you can get the idea...

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p146/PLAGUELORD_2006/DSC00909.jpg

I have then to paint the damage the models have in such a fashion that it shows and also paint all weapons which will be done together.

The bases will be decorated with ash like gravel to form a post apocalyptic terrain.

Comments are always welcome!!!

ok first thing i need to say is i REALLY like the look of your army!

however i for one want as much feed back on my army as poss so im gonna give you some C&C but please understand I am being harsh on you B)

i think your tanks need another going over in the 'stripey white' to join up the brush strokes a bit more

also, i dont understand why you have used plague marines in a pre-heresy army.....i mean they are great models....but not pre-heresy. you will get that question a lot.

otherwise.....FAB work :D
