Heresy Era Death Guard-Mortis Custodis!

Recommended Posts

Greetings to all!!!

I have been playing warhammer 40k for 4 years now and I started of with Nurgle and that will never change!I already have a big Nurgle army but the last few months I have been working on my new project which is heresy era Death Guard.I have named them Mortis Custodis which is Latin for Death Guard.I also used the renegade militia from FW like many others.I had a bit of a problem with the mark on their shoulder pads and I have not finished them yet since they still need some detail done and a few finishing touches here and there.I also have a Baneblade which I will post when it is finished and I also have two vindies that will be posted when I start painting them. Also I have more troops that are still in plastic and green stuff mode but they will soon be painted also.I also have another 15 Plague Marines still to be finished..they are still on sprues etc...:P

not bad PlagueBearer, the bases are a little plain though, maybe a little more highlighting, they look the part, good job.

Yes the bases are not finished yet as there will be more highlights added and the pipes will be painted. But I also want to keep them just a bit dark so that the model shows more because of contrast.

Thanks for your kind words!!!:P

I've just started a pre-heresy death guard army and I must know, how did you paint that white? it's perfect.

Thanks for your gret comment!!!

I had the model undercoated white.I painted some parts of the model (like the green parts and the back pack) and then I washed it with devlan mud. When it was dry I would start painting it in a very wierd style. What I did was I first did something like stippling using white and drawing lines starting from bottom and going upwards. For this the white was dilluted with water so you could see a bit of the previous color underneath. It was more like a seethrough white. Then I did the same but with less dilluted white and only almost half way up the surface I did before.I also highlighted some parts of the armor with white. It is the first time I used white to paint and I am glad it came out like it did.All my previous DG where is green-brown colors.

I hope I described it ok so that you can understand how I did it.

I am also going to start painting 15 more of these bad guys so I will also post images of the painting steps too so that you can get a cleared picture of how I did it.:)

I think they are looking nice, and good job on those chapter badges. The only thing which could be just from the picture is the heads seem rather dark, maybe a little more highlighting or brightening up the eyes a bit? Maybe its just me I had a hard time distinguishing the features of the heads in the group shots though.

Thanks for all your kind words guys!!!

I have made this Death Guard army with the concept that they just got corrupted. So they still have their markings but the signs of chaos and Nurgle are just staring to show...

The heads-eyes-bases and some other minor details are not finished yet.I am going to highlight the heads a bit.

As soon as I complete them I will post photos as well of the baneblade, the two vindies and the rest of the troops...

I am also trying to convert a Lord on a pallanquin.I am not quite sure yet how I am going to do it but I have some good ideas in mind!!!

I have also seen Pake's models and I must say that they are wicked!!!I really like them but to be honest I wasn't insired by him. I got the idea as soon as I saw the renegade models but I just didn't get down to it because I had stopped the hobby for a while.

But still they are a lot alike and I admire him for doing such a great job and I was honored he said I have done a good job on the other thread.

Again thanks to all of you for your kind comments and I promise you will see nice things on this topic!!!!<_<

Edit:

Unfortunately thay dont have true grit anymore. They have bolt-pistol, bolter, close combat weapon and many grenades. So I made them hold pistols since it also suits the assaulting movement they have...I wish they had true grit....;)

I have tried out other colors for the gas masks and I might go for an old latex color gas masks get from much use...

Anyway I also painted some plates on the Baneblade so that it's colors match that of the army.It still is a long long way from being completed but I will get there one day!!!:)

The other side of the baneblade is not painted like this side so that is why I am not showing it.The sponson is still on its way!!!

I might cut out plasticard in order to make the DG mark but I still am not sure.

There still is a lot to be done to this model but I am looking forward to finishing it!!!!

I love that Ogryn "You see this? You see this? Whaammmmm" and the Baneblade/Fellblade is coming along very nicely - I do like the mottled green for the camo, not a technique you see used very often and for something of this size, it's perfect. The Daemon Prince just reeks of fantastic but, I have to ask, what does the RTO on the fly mean?

Thanks guys for all your great words!!!

Kyr Gkika Hello!!!

RTO means Road To Oblivion....Just kidding....It is not RTO it is Rot!!!!:)

But it can work like that too....Hmmmm....

The Baneblade is going to go under some weathering when it is done as I am trying to make it feel old and used a lot in battles.

Hail to all Warhammer Players and especially to the followers of our God, Father Nurgle!!!

It has been a while since I last posted and since I last painted because of summer vacations!!!I had also caught an eye infection so painting was held back a bit...

But at least I finished a Vindicator and I have only some finishing touches to do at my Death Guard Plague Marines. After some thought and research I found that latex gas masks rot and change their color to a yellowy old color. So I tried to paint most of the gas masks like really old ones. That is why they are yellow.Plus I believe it makes the model stound out more than just a black gas mask.

The vindicator came out nice but I will add mud and some kind of numbers from transfer sheets and I would like your opinion to help me out with this one small thing...Should I do some battle damage? Some scrapes and scratches???

Anyway here are some photos....

It has been a long time since I last posted on the forum any of my work due to some circumstances. But I am back and my Pre-Heresy Death Guard a.k.a. Mortis Custodis are getting bigger and wilder by the day!!!

I have finished my Baneblade which is nothing like the one I presented before.I painted it in a more whitey collor to match the rest of the army and I also got 30 Forge World Death Guard Torsos and Shoulder Pads.

I have only undercoated them and I am now painting them.

On a 1500 pts game I will have only 4 7man squads so 4 champs. But I made more for larger games...

I love the way you've painted your tanks! THe paint job is clearly INTENTIONALLY sloppy, not the result of a lack of skill on your part, but rather a result of the Death Guard not caring for fancy paintjobs. So they slap on a layer of paint, and off the tank goes to destroy the foes of the Emperor - I mean Horus!

("We're warriors, not house painters, dammit!")

Excellent work!
