The "Wolf Time" is approaching

I've decided it's time to revisit my first 40K army. I've been playing Space Wolves since RT and haven't updated my army since second ed. So they are a little dated, and the perfect excuse to paint a new army to showcase my favorite Marines.

Here are a smattering of my old Wolves; all painted 10+ years ago. These are being replaced by the new Wolves I will be painting.

The Wolflord with the Pfist was my first attempt at GSing wolfpelts.

The predator will be the only thing for sure to transition into the new army.

You can see the first finished mini for the new army here.

Here are five more Grey Hunters. I'm working on 4 more they will all be sporting converted Mk IV Maximus armor.

The concept for the army is post Heresy, pre-color change so I want to represent a large mix of armor types.

Blood Claws will be wearing predominately Mk VII armor with Mk VI mixed in.

Grey hunters will have mostly Mk IV and Mk VI armor with a few Mk VII mixed in for flavor.

Long Fangs will be wearing armor that will best protect them so a Mix of Mk III, Mk VI and MK VII will fit the bill.

Wolf Guard will wear anything Mk V and earlier.

That predator is sick! :P

I love the old tanks. The new rhino chassis is cool and all, but the new razorback? Pfft. Where's the cramped turret!?

The new guy's looking good :) understated but neat and clean, and the dirt and battle damage looks great

I hope this doesn't mean you're retiring your old army? The old models still look fantastic!

Thanks Dude, I really love that old pred!

I agree there is nothing wrong with the old Wolves. Their age is the perfect excuse to go crazy painting a new army of Wolves. The old boys will still get plenty of action in Apocalypse games. They are just getting a well deserved rest. :)

You can't replace those models! :)

They look so good, plus they're old, and will give your army character. I'd love to have squads of old models like that.

I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Thanks for all of the comments. You have been very kind to the old Wolves and I appreciate it. I am not really replacing the nostalgic old guys, but retiring them from standard play. It's not a lack of love cause I really love everything Old School.

This project is a way for me to have a topnotch looking SW force without losing the ability to field an army while I am painting it. After the new Wolves are done then I may look at repainting the Old Wolves and adding them back to the standard play category.

Thanks for the comments.

There will be no updates for about 6 weeks.

I thought I'd share my little bout of bad luck wiff y'all. I was riding home with a good friend from a great Flames of War Tourney at a convention last Saturday night and we got broadsided by a drunk driver. I got a nasty concussion, a grade A case of whiplash a broken Right arm and ankle. The concussion was so bad I was in the hospital for almost 5 days.

My buddy is relatively Ok slight case of whiplash but fine otherwise. The moron DD came out without a scratch.

My FOW army survived unscathed because it was in one of those overpriced GW hard cases. My buds army was in a soft case behind my seat and is fraked up big time.

On the upside I'm feeling no pain right now cause I'm on a high, high from the lovely pain killers they've got me on!

This sucks cause I was on a real roll getting lotsa hobby stuff done. Oh well hopefully Mid October should be really productive for me.

Hi Megalodon,

Really sorry to hear about your injury. I am really enjoying your skills mate!

As a fellow Wolf player I love looking at other Wolf armies for inspiration. I have just built up 1500pts after a seven year hiatus and am just about to start painting so viewing your great painting standard helps.

Hope you recover soon.

All the best.

Mjol

As I commented in your previous thread, I'm loving what your doing with your Wolves.

Really sorry to hear about you accident. Surely this means that you have to spend lots of time recovering indoors near a painting table though? :D

Hope you get well soon anyway.

Cheers,

WW

Hey guys, thanks for all of the well wishes and comments!

I'm going to work on my Space Wolves as a side project doing a model or two a month for a while; until I finish my Chaos marines.

Here is the test mini for my Mk IV armor conversions.

He isn't perfect but with many more to do I should be able to perfect the method.

Oh it is such a treat to see those old models, they should deffinitely stay in your army though and see some use, they are just fantastic... but no reason you can't go crazy adding to the army ;)!

Nice work on the MK IV conversion, still needs some work but for a first attempt its quite good, I'm sure with some more practice you'll get it looking better and better!

Thanks for the comments and encouragement!

I improved the face mask on the helmet and built the rest of the GH. I still need to fill in the wrists, but I'm really liking how he's turned out.

Thanks for the comments!

me likey :) though i may be a minority on these boards as i do not like the rogue trader guys :ermm: ducks for the incoming flak :D

That's OK, we all have things we don't like. I'm replacing the old guys in the army because I am a little tired of using them.
