The Emperor's Word Space Marines

With the release of Assault on Black Reach, like so many others, I have decided to start another Marine army. I traded away the Orks for even more Marines so I now have a sizable force. I hope to have it expand over the coming months once I have my current contents painted.

Their colours will be as follows:

Menoth White Base (Bleached Bone) torso and legs with Liche Purple arms and pads with gold trim and eagle.

Their badge will be the skull headed eagle:

Background wise I want them to be devout and perhaps spread their gospel. I figure since I'll be using both the double headed aquila and the skull one, that it'll be the two paths the potential convertees can choose. The Emperor, the regular aquila, or death, the skull headed one. This option, of course, if only for humans, and any xenos they face automatically get the 2nd option. Since they will be devoutly religious to the Emperor, they'll be called 'The Emperor's Word' and follow the codex.

The fluff is very WIP and I hope to develop this as I progress with the army.

The first unit I have begun work on is a Terminator Squad.

and a close up of the completed sergeant to show scheme and basing.

So far the army contains;

20 Tactical Marines, 10 Terminators, 2 Dreadnoughts, and a Terminator Librarian who'll have blue arms instead of purple to show his designation.

I'm going to try and complete a few minis every couple days or so, school and work permitting but figure if I assembly line the tactical squads, then it should go quite smoothly.

Until next time,

um whew for the chapter to be called The Emperors Word you are defitnely missing: scrolls books purity seals, parchments, anything religious. I do not know if you are to add them but nice color scheme and nice models. Have a standard bearer carry a huge cross with parchments written down on them

I'm actually worried about adding too many scrolls and seals as they'll be bleached bone as well as the armour and so may distract from the overall effect. I think that I'll keep the standard marines and termies as they are but add some more scrolls and whatnot to HQ choices and their squads. Maybe they're just good orators and don't need the scrolls and books because they've memorized what they need to know. I don't want them to be all 'We can't go into battle because we forgot X, Y, and Z articles/books' and whatnot. The squad leaders will be getting back banners so I'll probably add some purity seals and the like to them to signify their zealousness.

preachers remember the word as well, but they carry it around praticaly always. From previous sights of the "preacher"man they tend to have it on their back. maybe a book on their hip to recite a battle prayer before going into battle or when you have smited your enemy with your blessed beloved hammer and kneel beside him pullout yo book read a scripture then try to mark him of emperor till you realize that you smashed his head in and thats part of the brain where he thought he could beat your playing with. All the etc. stuff could be done.

Have a great idea, the the plastic inside from the pen, cut at the top where it has the block at. get some green stuff slab it at both ends, scultp them up a lil bit then BAM Instant Bank of America Tube with scripture ready to go.

Have fun hope to see more pics

i really like the colour scheme, while purity seals etc. might make fluff sense i agree you dont want to detract from the models so i'd go for some writing on the armor.

btw with the gold have you inked at all because i think it might look quite nice with a wash then a highlight o mithril silver mixed with whatever gold you are using, but chances are the picture doesnt show the definition

This is totally true but at the same time I think scrolls and stuff would get the idea across alot more (writings on the armour would really help aswell). Maybe, if you decided to add scrolls etc, you could paint them with a grey base (highlighting to white) instead of a bone one? Try it out ;)

The gold is inked, but I think I need to add another highlight after I ink to make it show better. Like I mentioned, I'll probably add scrolls and seals to the banners. A loud speaker sounds like a good plan and if I can get some vox casters or something I'll try it out.

Maybe I'll give the sergeants books or something if I can find one small enough.

I've been thinking a bit and here's what I've come up with.

*Each sergeant will get a book - need a small one, advice/tips on getting/making one would be great.

*Ranking system based on purity seals - scouts 0, tactical marines 1, vets 2, etc. Sergeants get 1 more than the rest of their squad.

*Scrolls will be on banners only

*Will get a chaplain for the army

That's all for now,

I've started work on the Tactical Squad's Sergeant today so I hope to have him finished tomorrow.

Nice looking models, the bone and purple contrast is a good one, but you've missed a couple of squares on the terminators which could do with a touchup.

Other than that nice work.

@Joiji: Squares?

Update time, a WIP Tactical Squad Sergeant:

I thought I said how here, guess not.

It's as follows: Snakebite Leather, 2 coats, or until smooth, of Menoth White Base - BB works too, Gryphonne Sepia wash, Highlights of Menoth White Base, and 1:1 MWB and white.

I'm pretty much done the main body of the Sergeant.

I just need to do some touchups on the face, then it's on to his other arm and backpack.

Looking tops Khrangar, the bone and purple have come together really well. Glad you stuck with the name. I think the choice to get a chaplain in will add a lot to the army theme, looking forward to seeing him. Nice sgt! ;) Can't help but notice it's his left arm that's already done, will you be freehanding the chapter symbol onto it?

Squares was probably a bad word. Just a lower section of an armor plate, where it dips in at the back of a terminator leg.

Gotta say I still like the color combo, and it seems to work just as well on normal marines. Well done.

I can't help it, but I dislike the AoBR mini's... I find them a bit "insulting" to me as a converter, allthough I clearly understand that the way you easily can put together the new plastic mini's is meant to encourage new players to the 40k universe...

On a side note, good paintjob on those models, Khrangar. The bone/purple combo really is striking, kind of giving the models -especially the termies- a Deathwing/Emperor's Children feeling. Perhaps use some Black Templars upgrade kits to further enhance the "zealousness" of these devoted warriors of the Emperor.

@FerrumIgnatus: They do suck for converters, unless you're determined, but I love these guys for their sheer ease of assembly. I was thinking of BT upgrades for my sternguard or command squads so I hope to have more robed models as the army progresses.

@Draakur: I'll freehand on the badge once I get better at freehanding. Right now I can barely draw a skull, let alone paint one. If someone does a tutorial for my badge, I'd be more than happy to emulate it on my Marines.

On an more updatey note, I've finished the Sergeant.

And now have a group shot of the Terminators:

Dreadnought's up next. I love this thing, it fits together perfectly and there's no glue involved .

Finished the body of the Dreadnought today. I just need to do the arms and base and he's done.
