ELG Rompa Stompa, my tournament report

Recommended Posts

Hi everone

Just return from a event know as Rompa Stompa that was held by the ELG wargaming club in Edinbrugh (they also done the 40k Radio tournament). The event was 40k & WFB event. 3 games on each game.

This will be a account of my Iron Warriors & how the chaos gods can be fickle that times

As per usely

- Please do NOT post anything negative about the tournament sence, army list or anything else. I post these report as somthing to look back that, show friends, etc.... last thing I want is negative comment. So please use your commen sence, don't like it/list/or just going to post negative don't post as it really is rude & immature.

I also do not belive in cheesy or beardy armies (IMO a lot of the argument are by bad losser), I belive that as long as a army by the codex/rule book that all that matter, as end of the day it there army, there money. As long as a player is not a git, then I am happy to fight any army as all prove a good challenge.

So please do NOT bring any of this up.

Anyway, for those who come & enjoy the topic welcome & thanks for reading in advance. Now as per usely, those who have not seen my 40k Radio, UKGT or Rapid Fire report (check around these part of the fourm) then my report are mainly photo heavy as I find rather than try to rememeber detail & detail account or post random rubbish (apart from these bits) it just also look cooler & the saying a photo speak a thasound word.

After my third battle like GT report (again those not seen it) I will go through why I pick what I pick

Games 1: Damn those Genestealer & there mangy Carnifex hahaha

Mission, d3+2 counter with pitch battle

Oppent George

Army list: Sorry in advance (& to George) as I don't play nids even though I got the codex... basicly if I can kill somthing that all that matter lol :D so I will try my best

Hivemind with a big weapon, 4 Carnifex, 3 Zoanthrope, 2x unit of Genestealer.... there might be some stuff & I can't rememeber what upgread where on the Fex other than twin linked weapon goodness.

Out come - Draw

VP - Me: 1466, George 313.

So before the game

Well I met up with my friend Graham who also attended the Grand Tournament with me. We met up in order to find the ELG place & thanks to my "useful" sence of diraction I manger to get us a little loss, but we found the ELG club, just took me a while to rememeber how to get there from 40k Radio world wide tournament.

When we finial got there, I started setting up my army into my mail order box/acting as tray when George came up & was highly commenting on my IW which was very cool & I am thankful as it alway good to hear good stuff on your hard work on the armies. When asking what his army would be he said Nidzilla. I hear a lot of story of Nidzilla armies from the fourm & from friends who have fought them, also seen many in the tournament but never came across them.

So when George went to set his model out on his tray. I spoke to my friend Graham saying how I never fought a Nidzilla & it be a good challenge from all the stuff I read on the fourm.

Behold once we all sign in for the Rompa Stompa tournament. My name was called out & turn out I would be against George & his Nidzilla. Was this a trick of the chaos gods lol :D do they really listen to us mere Chaos players

To some up the game, from what I hard on the fourm & from friends I was a little worry but as said I never fought Nidzilla army before & was really looking forward to this as ever army prove a challenge.

We got three object

So as the game progress, it went back & forward from the Nid pushing forward into my lines. But seem the chaos gods where watching over me as on turn 2 I belive. One my squads of Termies came on when it really matter... other wise I would have four Carnifxies in my line & slaughting my poor Chaos Space Marines. So the Termies came down by Deep Strike & thanks to the Icon seen them land near Rapid Fire for there combi Plasma, taken one of the might beast down. While the 10 man squads (or what was left) help wound another, with the other might Carnifx wounded my Warsmith/Daemon Prince seen a opening & charge right in ripping the carnifx head off.... only to go on to take the Hivemind the following turn & a few more Nids left right & center.

While my other Termies squad came on taken care of a few other Carnifx with the support of my Chaos Marines & also my Obliterators.

It came to turn 5, I had loss half a squad of 10 Marine, my Daemon Prince has unlucky been killed by a big squad of Gene-Steal which in turn 4 where gun down to two models left. So with light loss in term of nothing bad or just the odd model killer. George army on turn 5 was just two Gene Stealer in cover near a object, I also held one object as well & I had a 10 man squad near another object but in order to get that I would need to RUN...!!!!!! which was a might EPIC FAIL as all I needed was somthing like a two on my dice...... I get a one, not object & ment I would only have one out of three

I shot everthing I could on those two models to try wipe out the army as well.... needless to say those Gene Stealer where really good, gone to ground with a nice 3+ cover save since there in cover. I fire Termies, Oblits, Heavy Bolter, etc....

So the game ended with it being a draw with me fail that RUN..!!!! & George two Gene Stealer holding out against ever weapon know to man.... where a virus bomb that we use during the heresy days when you needed on

End result as said was a draw, 1466 VP to me & 313 to George. George was a really sporting player & we really did have a good laught about the two Gene-stealer & the game over all.

So some photos

Damn the Gene-Stealer  as why the heading. As said me & George had a good laught about this & show that 5th Ed of 40k really is less predictable. As said one my unit fluff there RUN...!!! to get a object & dose not matter how much you kill, all about the objects. But yes all you can do that the end of the day is laught.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/ELG/games/DSC03902.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/ELG/games/DSC03903.jpg

Well after the game it seem me & George where the first to finish. I got to say fighting Nidzilla for the first time as said I was looking forward to fighting them when George said he was useing them. They offer me a great challenge & keep me on my toe's, more so since I have never really though on how I would deal with them.

After the game me & Geroge talk about turing point of the games being

- If that ONE unit of Termies never came on, then I could exspected the game to be complete diffrent. Though my normal Chaos Marines can deal with Carnifx & Hiveminds, rememeber that it going be hard to take them down, 6's to wound, 2+ save, etc.... most they will loss is a wound, three if your luck, all if the chaos gods favour you

- Gene Stealer holding out, as said they truly knew there ground  with the amount of fire power I fire into them. Also as said they where the last two models of Geroge army left.

- Daemon Prince, he did well makeing a few great save & also deal with the Carnfex in combat follow by Hivemind.

There maybe some other turing point that I may have not notice or have forgotten. But over all it was a great game, it really tested me as said I never really though of how I deal with Nidzilla & was first time experince fighting them.

So after that, was time to set up our armies for people to look about & vote for the painting (I got a few votes) as well as have a good launch.

So next ROUND 2!!!!!!

Round 2: The revange of the Nidzilla

Mission, home & away object, Dawn of war

Oppent: Richard

Army list: Richard had a copy of his army list for each oppent (I'll need to do this for future ref). His army was Nidzilla but was "count as" base on a Tech-priest army, Richard wanted to use Nids list as he getting ready for the GT heat 3 & had some cool models "count" as carnifex

Hivemind with Wing & a few other good (do not want to say since Richard GT heat 3 next week & be a shame to ruin the suprise for any of his oppent there next week  ), Hivemind with Guards, 5 Carnifex, 3x Gaunt units.

Out come - loss

VP.... my army was slaughter

So after filling up on some good food, voting for a army we though was best painted & me takeing some these photos for people who attended the event. I was on table 2 (as you will notice Table 2 is much the same as table 1, that due to... to keep thing intresting table No would be switch per round so people say like on table one would not be fighting on same table though this is a bit ironic  haha)

My oppent was Richard who I was just talking to a mere few min before our game asking him about his force & what codex is he useing for the overall army. As said the force is nicely built around Tech-priest, along with a copy of his army list Richard also has some background on the back (which was very cool when I was reading it on the train back home).

So we where pair up & I found out Richard dose very well in the Grand Tournaments usely coming top 10 & is currently the holder of a title MrTau UK (little joke on the fourm who ever the top UK player is of said army become like MrChaos Uk, etc...). As soon as I was told this I knew I would once again be in for a great challenge. Also before the game/looking that Richard army he said about it being Nids & it was a Nidzilla army. Two Nidzilla armies in a row  & there only a total of 3 nids player that this event haha, truly the chaos gods listen to me saying my friend Graham how I like to fight Nidzilla.

So game started off & was a very tough yet great challenge game. Richard done a lot of great thing vs my Mech Army when take them apart from aim everthing he had the my Rhinos mange to immobile two of the three... oh no!!!!. Also I have a bit of a habit of making great Inv save, but when given me ton of normal armour save to make, I am rubbish... Richard did just that with as many shot that where all re-rollable slaughting Marines left, right & center.

Around Turn 4 the Nidzilla where already very very close to my line's & as a last ditch I sent the squad of 10 marine (or what was left??) to try gte Richard Object. But having just kill some Gaunt along the way... they had with out number. So time I get to his object I would be facing so many Gaunts that wore down my Marines with there fire power, while a Carnefix that Richard keep to one side came in as a count unit take away my Rhino so it would not contest his object blow it sky high.

We had reach turn 5 with 45 min until the game ended so Richard took a short break & went to get a pint (because ELG is base, it a RAF social pub) & also offer to get me a Pint of Coca Cola which was cool as we went down had a chat & about 5-10min later came back to see if the game went on.

It seem during that little chat & picking up drink, my Iron Warriors seem to have replace there bullet with Rubber version.... I mean the amount of 2's I rolled to hit or wound was not normal. That was TWO turn worth as well.

So we reach turn 7 I belive?? or 6, my army was pretty much wipe out.

Richard was a good oppent & really did offer a great challenge. Also though I don't know much about Nids, I find (if your reading this  ) that your nids list was solid & as said I think your the second person to ever wipe me out in 5th Ed so far (first person being Donzo from GW Falkirk & his Daemons)

So here some photos of the game

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/ELG/games/DSC03969.jpg

Again the game vs Richard was very good & he really knew how to use his Nids force. I am not sure what I would have done diffrent because a few thing where

- Try to.... because it Dawn of War try to attack Richard right flank/my left.... but as said it was Dawn of War & would be easy for him to send his Carnifx & Hiveminds to counter them while the Gaunt would have ran down my right flank & took the object. So I did what I did & just went up my Right flank as much as I could & take the Nids head on in battle.

Also as said a few unluky thing happen from Rubber Bullets, also my Termies not turing up sooner as by the time they deep strike though they did some damnge is was to late.

But again was a good game & again like George game, we to talk the game & what we learnt. Again Richard I think is the second person ever to wipe out with little loss in return, my army in 5th Ed, if I loss in 5th ed it mainly been due to object.

Right so round 2 was done, it was time to get ready for the finial round.....

Round 3: Grudge match vs a old foe (army wise)

Mission: Kill point, cleanse (sp? to tired to check it out) set up

Oppent: Pash, he a memeber of B&C & you can find him on the Blood Angels area know as King Pash

Army: Pash has a bit of everthing, Dante, 10 man Tac squad, Assault marines, 3 Death Company, Land Rider, Baal Pred, squad of 2x Attack Bikes, Dreadnought, Death Companyt ven dread.

Out come - Loss by ONE Kill point...ahhh damn you chaos gods

VP: Me - 1065, Pash - 912 I think

Well after a quick break it was time for the finial around.

A few days ago me & Pash where ment to orignaly give each other a battle to get ready for the event... but due to some none GW Stuff that came up he was unable to do this. By PM we joke that we where most like going to be battleing each other.... yet again it see the Chaos Gods listen to this :(

Pash was unsure if he was going to use new Space Marines (don't think there was a single one there???) but op to go with his old faithful Blood Angles.

Now I said in the GT my bane army was Tau.... but my grudge army has been Blood Angles since I started my IW back in 2001.... ever battle was alway a bitter blood bath & was alway fun :D But just Blood Angles alway ruin my IW plans to slaught million to the chaos gods & also show Heavy in my own background.

In fact my Wasmith was made Daemon Prince for wipe out a BA army by himself (just when 3.5 codex was coming out & I mange to get a very early per-release Daemon Prince model that was WIP that the time). But yes back when my Warsmith was a mere mortal he was made a Daemon Prince for this battle & as said background heavy on this for him.

Anyway the game in general............

For Pash first turn he took out one of my Rhino's & seem the chaos gods did not favour the unit inside as I took very heavy lossies ;) from a pot shot Multi Melta gun.

As the game went on I mange to get my 10 man squad to fire up Pash small unit of Death Company as over the year I have a fear off them.... well today the Death Company would not be easy even with a small squad of them. As I went onto fire Pash have them go to ground in the open so 6+ save.... seem Sanguinius was in deed watching over them as how many 6's did you get Pash??? vs Plasma. If anything is was my Bolter & in later turns my Termies charging into combat with the last one.

As the game went on both me & pash where taken a lot of lossies, my Oblits like the UK GT could barely do much vs his Land Raider. Like wise about 85% of my shot where save be it to his Land Raider or Baal Pred.

But as time went on it went from a big fire fight that close range & then a big punch up with the might Chapter Master Dante getting into the thick of things. But he finial fallen under the combi charge of both my Termies units that full strenght & a Obliterators just incase.

But when we added up the KP Pash had one more than me but VP wise it was diffrent :( But again me & Pash has a after game talk & spoke how 5th Ed has change thing & we really like how 5th Ed has became. We also talk about the luck of the dice in some part & the unlucky dice roll in other's. What we would have done if the game did not finish on turn 5.

Here some photos

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/ELG/games/DSC03985.jpg

So loss the game by one kill point & just so many part with good dice roll/save or poo dice roll & save. Again we talk about what would happen if it went onto to turn 7 (ended on turn 5) as well as what would have happen if this or that was taken out a turn early or the dice failed

Anyway I enjoy the event, was good to get a last tournament of 2008 done. Really enjoy all three games. I have learnt a LOT today & also having the experince of fighting two Nidzilla (two diffrent list) it given me a lot of thinking for me. Leanrt a lot about Nidzilla :D

Blood Angels.... damn them I will slaughter there whole chapter one day lol.

All three oppent where great sport & would happily give ether three them a game in the future. Also Richard good luck with GT Heat 3 if your reading this & everone going with you.

Also for those wanting to see photos of event check out here I have three folder on the left

- Games: Basicly photos you see on this topic

- 40k: Just that, most the 40k armies that where there

- WFB: The Warhammer Fantasy side of things, but rememeber this is Bolter & Chainsword & we are a fourm for 40k & mainly power armour armies (Sister, =][=, Imperial Marines, Chaos)

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v473/iro...0psycopath/ELG/

Please note because it late (10.26pm) I have not had time to upload all photos (mainly 40k & WFB area) so these will be done tomorrow (since a lot people from the event will be checking this report out to get photos, etc....). Also after having three great challengeing games it make you tired.

Thanks for reading this

I:P, whats the color scheme your using for your IW? Meaning to steal your idea as it looks really good and im looking to repaint my chaos army into something a little more perturabo'y, and certainly less drab than my current scheme.

Congrats on the tournament in any case!

Not sure what I do with some the new stuff as I mange to keep a good supply of inks/there a store near by my gaming club that sold "out of stock" stuff, so mange to get ever brown/cheastnut/flesh ink I could.

Very nice reports and photos Insane Psychopath. Very good to hear you enjoyed your games against Nidzilla. I find they are a bit like double lash armies. People complain a lot about them but they aren't invincible and can be fun to play against. You just need to have a very nice opponent.

Again great pictures and you've reminded me of an army I forgot to photograph at heat 2. A skaven army for 40K! No idea what it counted as but looked cool and it was just fun to see.

I agree with you that 5th edition seems to have changed 40K for the better in terms of the outcome of the games. You can be slaughtering your opponent but still lose it because you've forgotten about the mission. The change to random game length has really changed the predictability of games for me. Seems most of your games had the 'what if' discussion afterwards as well.

Thanks for the report.

Thanks everone

Yes Nidzilla as said I really enjoy both games vs them. As said never fought them before, hear a lot about them & alway wanted to fight them. I got two yesterday & both where great player's & sporting. Really keep me on my toe's like 99% of my 5th Ed games have been so far.

Yes I was told about this from one my friends who attended Heat 2, he said they where chaos marine if I rememeber rightly??

Also as said why I pick stuff I did (already said in GT topic but just let people see it here as well).

- The Daemon Prince is just a really cool model first & formost. Background wise with the model being my warsmith it a big bit as well as said vs Blood Angels. Also unit wise a Daemon Prince... though can not get some great upgread's as they use to in 3.5 days, they are more survible since they can no longer be killed by S10 Weapons, also there cheaper to be honsty.

In my Army the Daemon Prince one & only role is of course close combat & he the rock hard combat unit in my army with a might WS7 will pretty much slap anything he fight with a might S6 following.

I not went for any marks because where IW's & I want to stick to the background. While Psychic powers, to be honsty though Lash is good I just find it over rated & rather have more gun's while other power... again IW & my Warsmith background wise has never been a psychicer.

Also I want to prove it in games as well

See the mortal version of Warsmith Abhorred Riddick here back in my 2001-2002 army for my first tournament Conflict Scotland

Elites

Squad 7: Tormentia,

4x Termies arm with Power Weapon & combi Plasma - 140

Squad 8: Proeliator

4x Termies arm with Power Weapon & Combi Plasma - 140

- Well apart from the Daemon Prince, when I pick armies I like my unit to have a min of two roles in the army, as you will see most it shooting as well as dealing great in combat (depend what there against of course). With the Termies was another "I like the models & cool conversion". Also with Combi Plasma there great & cheap. On a unit of Termies who will ALWAY Deep Strike useing the Icon's best thing to ever have Icon Glory (if your going for God mark for normal Marines better just getting the cult unit them self), pick out small elite units/Monster or tanks (since I only have 4x Oblit & my Chaos Marines are usely in combat 95% of the time). The turn after Deep Striken, ether counter attack what ever my 10 man Chaos squad hold up, or go after small elite units with (if there still full strength of course) 12 Power Weapon attacks.

Also have a nice 2+ save alway great.

Troops

Squad 1: Iupatus Proeliator

9 Chaos Space Marines, Plasma Gun, Heavy Bolter, Icon of Glory

Champ, Power Weapon - 215

Rhino, Extra armour - 50

Squad 2: Be Graphicus

9 Chaos Space Marines, Plasma Gun, Heavy Bolter, Icon of Glory

Champ, Power Weapon - 215

Rhino, Extra armour - 50

Squad 3: Apocalypse

9 Chaos Space Marines, Melta Gun, Heavy Bolter, Icon of Glory

Champ, Power Weapon - 215

Rhino, Extra armour - 50

- 5th Ed as well all know is about troops. I found my three unit to do alright, did try adding a 5 man squad but took away so much needed punch in theforce & was going to try a unit Bezerker for this event but again it just took away part that where really needed.

In general as said I like my unit for a few role. Nothing more nicer (IMO) than seeing a squad of 10 Chaos just boltering a squad to death. Heavy Bolter there to make use of the Rhino Hatch in the even I face Hordes or when holding a object, also plastic devastators HB just look cool on chaos marines.

Rhino's, again with the release of 5th Ed tanks have became a little better (though I still not a fan of the defence weapon being S4 now :P ) they keep my troop safe (well unless there blow up of course) & mean when I reach the enemies line I can pretty puch punch grab them by the nose & punch there teeth in with mass bolter, follow by 10 marine charging in as don't underestamate (sp) normal close combat attacks.

But yes Rhinos are also there for blocking true line of sight as well in the event stuff dose not go to plan or when I am holding the object as last thing you want is your unit wipe out.

I did not go for any cult unit (though as said above I have Bezerker painted up). Just again it Iron Warriors, sure I can use count as & there fearless... but just again want to prove that basic Chaos Marines do great as well.

Heavy Support:

Squad 5: Excessus Fillius

2 Oblits - 150

Squad 4: Oburo

1 Oblit - 75

Squad 6: Hydra Infensus

1 Oblit - 75

- Obliterators... it Iron Warriors, it why I started them. My friend who use to work for GW that the time back when Chaos Marine just came out for 3rd Ed made a really cool Thasound Son force with Obliterators for support. The conversion where really great & so I copy his idea but with my own changies of course.

Index Astarties came out & I just really like the Iron Warriors background (since it was a bit more detail), I like the new art work & the image it give of Iron Warriors, seen about they where allow more Obliterators (back when they use to be rubbish game wise).

Anyway.... Obliterators role is to alway set up hiden behind the Rhino until my first turn, there my only long range fire power in the army with the aim to deal with tanks & small elite units. There cheaper than Havocs, most all they can move & fire which it a lot better with the Dawn of War set up. Also with a nice power fist there able to handly it out in close combat. I will alway have Obliterators in my army.

In general when I was making my Iron Warriors, I am not a fan of stastic armies as I find them boring to use. For me my style of warfare has been Mobilty & I like to play aggressive with my armies alway have them in your face grab you by the nose & punch you teeth in (not really toward people, just mean this as the style of my gaming) as again I hate hideing the whole games & then just grab the Object last min with out doing anything to the oppent army, just not in me.

As you seen in my Iron Warriors force everthing can move & shoot you up, following with a mass assault with a might 30 Chaos Space Marines, 8 Termies, a Daemon Prince with Obliterators slow getting there giveing covering fire.

As you see from my photos & from other report my Iron Warriors rarely stay still.

I may not be the world greatiest gamer, but ever oppent I fight have said my games have been challegeing & if they win then it been pretty hard work. With 5th Ed I really have found it add onto this & really dose make you think a lot more, as after the tournament (listed below) everone I talk to all feel there mind just going on shut down after the event which is good as you want to feel challenge in games, you never want a easy game.

The main thing is after each game, you learnt from them & I feel from 5th Ed I really am learning a lot more which is great as it alway give you though for the brain & nothing worst than learning nothing from a game.

As GT 2006 show, when I went to my old local GW the gamer there where not the best, I would learn nothing new, got to GT 2006 & make so many mistake & was worst GT for me in term of games. But 2007 to now I am learning new things which is important & alway good for both myself & my oppent making the game more challegeing.

When I pick a army as said I make sure there able to do a min of two role as I am not much of a fan (apart from Daemon Prince) of taken units that are limited to one role.

I pick my army as long as it by the codex/rules, like wise I am more than happy to fight any army that it by the codex/rule book as ever army offer a challenge & come down to the player useing them as well it only if the oppent a git I would not fight them.

I have not found any weakness in my army, just come down to ether being out object, out played, etc... I dout I will change my army as said above I try a 5 man squad by dropping 2x Termies & a Heavy Bolter Marine but just did not feel right & those two Extra Termies & Heavy Bolter really did make the change/help I needed while play testing. While Bezerker I try them out... I will keep them for 1750pts but in 1500pts as said I want unit that can handly a min of two role's & just Icon's really work well in the event I need to keep one unit back to hold a home Object.

As said 5th Ed really has became less predictable.

Hope this make sence ;)

So far my Iron Warriors have fought in

40k World Wide war tournament

Jet Bike Eldar

Slannesh Chaos Space Marines

Jet Bike Eldar (Monk Fish on there fourm, his comment are on my report)

UK Grand Tournament Heat 1

Mech Eldar

Necron's

Mech Chaos

Mech Tau

Dark Angles with a bit of everthing

Mech Space Marines (Trait codex)

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...=148913&hl=

Stirling Rapid Fire tournament

Mech Chaos (Ian, Slannesh player I fought in 40k Radio)

Necron's

Mech Tau

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...=150295&hl=

Now ELG Rompa Stompa event

Nidzilla

Nidzilla

Blood Angles with a bit of everthing.

So far in a tournament I not fought: Orks, the new Marine codex & also just in general I not fought a Imperial Guard force.... can't even rememeber the last time I fought Guards other than Rapid Fire tournament last year with my Black Legion. Also I not fought Dark Eldar in a tournament yet.

Humm... now I said that, most like GT next year I will fight them all & just to mock me, fight a few more Imperial Guard armies ;)

So with these tournament under my belt, I learnt a great deal of 5th Ed & each & ever army was fought by very sporting oppents & all have been a great challenge.

Also as said for those who never enter tournaments I high recommend them & do not listen to those moaner on the fourms as a lot them never enter anyway. Tournaments are a good laught, you meet new & old friends alike, you get new games & each oppent offer a new challenge & also you challenge yourself & learn so many new things along the way. Also just the really cool armies that are there & the work people put into there armies, really stand out & it good for future idea (as why I alway take photos that these event now).

Sure there are some people in tournament that take a few thing over the top, but same happen in your local GW, game store, gaming club. If you fight people like that, just rememeber there just one mere gamer out of how many good oppent??

Whoo... that a bit longer than I though :D

Edit: I forgotten to say as of tomorrow my Iron Warriors 5th Grand Company will be 7 year old, been through 5 version of the army through out each event to try & improve my painting & converting skills with the aim of painted armies in sight (been close a few times).

I been a big fan of Chaos since I started the hobby since seeing John Blanch drawing back in UK White Dwarf 202, Iron Warriors started on 17th Nov 2001 with my Warsmith that you can see in the link to the glory of my IW 5th Grand Company

Great report as always, IP. It's also good to see your insight into 5th ed and your list.

Thanks Megalondon, yes just as said from 5th Ed as you see from some the games VP where high, but dose not matter as it all about object (or kill points), just really make you think & I feel in these pass four tournament have seen me more focuse. Sorry to those who came up & it seem like I'm ignore you, just when I am focuse apart from the army & oppent everthing around me sort of gose blank.

List, yes just for people to know why I pick the unit I done. As Richard before we where told we be battleing each other, where talking about both our armies & Richard really like it I keep away from stuff like Lash & I exsplain my reason with very good point's, also as said where Iron Warriors.... we blow stuff up then go into the breach & slaughter... we don't need any fancey stuff ;)

Also just useing my IW since 2001 (as said my IW be 7 year old), I feel I know my list inside & out & it really has not change other than... the Melta gun was a Flamer... but that the only change. Other changies I try just for sake of it in play testing just seem to weaken my army.

So I like how my Iron Warriors work, though it mech I try to go for something a little diffrent (with cult/psychic daemon prince), as said a lot this is from my Iron Warriors background, etc...

Also I forgot to put in when I also pick a army my main though are 1: Can they be converted & are the models cool that it the first part of any army I do. I do not care if the army maybe the best thing in the world, if it dose not fit with conversion/cool models there no for me (exsample Mech Tau, though pretty cool models just I find there no conversion, if there is everone done them). 2: They unit & army dose well in games & prove a great challenge for myself & my oppent where I am learning ever time. 3: Though I do read the background of the armies/stories... that the very last thing on my mind to be honsty, but I do keep my armies to there background & then have my own sub-background. Like how my IW are ment to be roughly base on thing like Clone Trooper from Star War's there specil Elite unit like ARC, Shadow trooper, etc.... with all the scope on my Bolter, some camera on the helmets, Termies deep striken down.

Great report as usual. Glad we managed to get a game against each other in the end (although I put it down to the Emperors will... :) ). Our game had a lot of lucky/unlucky rolling and was a very close one in the end. I think by turn 5 I had only my Crusader, Baal Pred and Plasma Dread left. Another turn would have probably killed me. I'll be glad to arrange another game at some point in the future. PM me if you're dropping by GW and we'll have a game.

P.S. It was 3 consecutive 6+ saves against plasma on my DC. Guess Sanguinius was with me that day. Shame the same cannot be said of my normal armour saves though... :P

Thanks Pash, with the Death Company it just felt like he was taken a lot fire power yet still there showing truly what Death Company are made from :)

Yes I'll PM you for a game in the future :D

With the game, with 5th Ed it really dose make you think harder after the game on what could happen, what might, what should have but did not, how it change, etc.. :D

Thanks again & I would not say it was the Emperors will, but Chaos ;)

Lol, I only Joined the Tournament to torment Insane Psycho ^_^

I was teasing him that there was a 1 in 3 chance of me being drawn against him in every round ;).... I have no idea if that was true.

Shame we missed each other, a particular shame as instead of fighting Pash I could of played you, rather than the wipe out I suffered in round 3 :)... most upsetting of all it was to a 'nid' player (since I was playing nid and have prided my self for years never having lost a race on race game be it Tau, Ork, nid...).

Anyway, I got your opponent from round 2 for round 3. I have no excuses he just out played me, my endurance was shot, my plans were all flawed and watching his 5 or so monsterus creatures run from my lone Carnifex was rather enjoyable, shame it was my last creature... still it got a combat-flyrant, and another carnifex on its tally before being shot to death.

I have to say that IMO the new 5th ed have been the death for 'all the little ones' army's, and have put alot more pressure on mostly middle ones like mine. Big things currently rule in the nid hives. Exampled by in the 3 Nid armys in this competition. Of the 3 of them, mine had the leased MC's by around 2.... and I had 3 of them!!!. (mind u, I played a CSM player who had 2..., so I killed 'em to teach him a lesson - har har har...oops.... munch munch munch).

I have to say, I think I learned more from this tourny than the last one. Again I had a mostly cobbled together army, however I think the last game had the biggest impact on changes I will implement to hone my army for coming fights.

Although Insane does not mention it, I even being a nid player found the his oppoents 2's army hard to follow. Although it all makes sence when described and he is quite happy to clarify as you go what is which and where is the Arg, I still found it threw my game a bit, especially when tired. Do I think I would of won if it was represented with normal models? - no, I was out played, but I would of found the game less work, so late in the day. He was a nice chap, and rather encourages you even when you know your been beaten so bad your future kids will be born with bloody noses. I would also of soled a few orphans to the salt mines to have some of the models he had. Not to use as he does, but to put them in a sisters of battle army.

Anyway, Insane and I rather enjoyed our selfs, and I certainly stuffed my face at the first break... and during games, and as people were trying to tidy up.

If you live in travel distance to an ELG event, I would recomend them. If there were more 40k players I suspect they would run 40k only events with more frequency (the hall is only so big, burn all the stinky elf and dewarf warhammer games!! - not that I am an extreemest, or that I never win at warhammer or anything like that.....)

-MF

NB: which reminds me, there was NO new codex Space Marine players in the whole event!! - there was of course no shortage of Blood Angels however.

Hi Paul

Yes if you give up on the last game who know I might have fought you with three Nids in a row :)

If there were more 40k players I suspect they would run 40k only events with more frequency

Yes we need more tournament in Scotland, only once are

- Conflict Scotland, double event

- first time 40k Radio that ELG

- Rapid Fire in Stirling

- This event Rompa Stompa (not sure if it on per year??)

I would like (being event commite of Stirling wargamer) to try get a few more events on the go, try get a big place & get the gaming clubs & those wishing to attend to come along. But just come down to how many, who willing to put in the time, etc....

As I found I learnt a lot & that though in some event I not done well on ranking's (then I have also done great in rank with 40k Radio & Rapid Fire) I have found that I was more focuse this year & that I think I brought it up another leval in gaming term.

But yes the gaming club in Scotland need to try get somthing sorted, as it all about meeting new people, playing your favrout hobby, having a laught & testing yourself. As said in my old local GW the gaming side was slide down & GT 2006 was rubbish for me because I made a lot mistake because I did not learn anything until then. Now my new local GW & the GW I work in along with Stirling wargaming club, I am constently (sp) being tested & alway make me learn & improve my games & going these events :D It also one main reason for me going to the UK Grand Tournament to keep testing myself & have a laught.

Thinking about it, possible have like the good old Vets tirp, go down to Nottingham for a day (use to be we leave that midnight from our GW then head back up for midnight-ish) just have some sort of tournament event with 40k & WFB.

With Richard army, yes I really like the models as it was well theme while useing the "count as" nids which dose seem fitting :D with the synaps (sp) could be mind control since the Gaunt rep Servitors. Also James Blood Angels are really nicely painted as well & I like the use of stuff like the Baal Pred crew BA Shoulder pad & DwkT bolter's. I found it hard to vote between these two armies because I really like both, so I rolled a d6 to let the chaos gods chose  one of GW main rules, when in dout roll a d6

Well Paul, I should be in GW next Tue from 11-1ish pm due to my HND award that college during the night. So if your up for a game let me know by PM.

Also yes it was a great event with good food & most all it got a pub down stair (though I don't drink booz, alway nice to have good pint of cola). As Andy said to the woman who was checking to see if the food was needed clean. We paid for the food, the place is full of gamers, none us are going mind if most of it stone cold  & I think the pub made a fair bit of money on the day. It like down in Nottingham that Warhammer World, I think Bugman bar make the most money

So yes hope Andy dose more event like this, also Stirling wargaming club alway has Rapid Fire ;) which you should come to Paul.
