My quick Daemon project log

Recommended Posts

Hi everone

With me waiting for the ork second wave I though I do a quick project between now to christmas time. For a while I wanted to collect Chaos Daemon since they came out in April, in fact had a few Bloodletter in there boxies since then when I was a staffer.

So now seem the right time to collect a 1500pts Daemon force.

For people to follow along, here my list with some idea's on conversion

Skuller Taker on Juggernaut

- I am not a fan of the GW Metal version, so I am going to aim to convert my own out of the plastic bloodletter useing a lot skulls from the vamp, orks, nids, Marine helmets, fellow Chaos helmet, what ever I can find really in term of trophies

2x unit of 4 Blood Crusher

2x 10 Bloodletter with Icon

- There going to be out of the box BUT, going to do some stuff on the base, basicly dead Ultramarine, have pool of blood, etc....

1 unit of 8 Blood letter with Icon

- Same

3x Soul Grinder

- Going to give these some base, also want to add a lot trophies onto the Soul Grunder. On the base depend, I might add a damnge rhino (because a ruin rhino I had from agies pass)

The project just started as of today with building some Bloodletter & getting some paint on a handful of models

Blood-letter I had since April from Conflict Scotland

My Second unit of Blood letter

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC03998.jpg

I am collecting Daemon due to there not that many kicning around my locl GW & GW use to work that as well as my wargaming club. Also I just like the new Daemon models & needed to get a few new armies for 5th Ed really.

Painting wise, be your classic red for the Bloodletter. Aim to base coat with Scab (or is it red gore?) red, Blood red dry brush, red wash, devlan mud wash. Then once the model been matt varnish I am to gloss the skin & the weapon of the Bloodletter.

Soul Ginrder I will be going for a green flesh being Knarloc Green, heavy wash of Badab Black, wash of Devlan Mud, Dry Brush with Knarloc Green, Very lighting dry brush Rotting Flesh.

Also a lot of idea have came from my friend & local GW Manger, here his Daemon army for anyone intrested which he built in a few days & got painted in two weeks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/40k%20Radio%20WWW/DSC03238.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Stirling%20tournament/Rapid%20Fire%2008/DSC03740.jpg

So hope to get my army looking as cool as his.

I'll be trying to update this topic when ever somthing painted (a lot stuff keep poping up in real life events). So my aim is to get this Daemon army fully painted before x-mas time I have somthing like four weeks to get it done.

Thanks folks

I should have a update by tomorrow. Just finish painting a Bloodletter & just waiting of the Gloss varnish on the skin to full dry to see if it work well or what???

Your mate really painted all that in two weeks?

My friend really good when it come toward armies, once he start he has to finish them, never seen him play a none fully painted army. His Chaos Guard force took somthing like four days to paint, 3 days worth of building (but this is a power armour fourm).

So again should get some updates photo wise tomorrow & also depend my money in the bank... I might be able to pick up a few more thing in my local GW as well.

Though one update I can give is the way I been painting my Bloodletter flesh which is simple Red Gore (or scab?), dry brush blood red... because of the black undercaot & red going a bit watery you need to do around 2-3 dry brush, red wash, brown wash (this might need to be done two times) & then give a finial light dry brush of Blood Red, once model done matt varnish then use the pot of gloss varnish & paint onto the Bloodletter skin.

So yes tomorrow my aim to grab the last box of Bloodletter (as you see I already have two units) & again depend money I might pick up a Soul Grinder.

Thanks

Hi everone

Edit: forgot to say I use Flash in my photos to pick out detail. Not useing Flash on my camera led to very dark dull photos. Model look a vit diffrent by photos than in real life :end Edit

Bit of a update, from last night & bit of today I been busy painting my Bloodletter.

There still a lot work do be done to the Letter from

- Dry Brush the horn/bone colours

- Once matt varnish on, gloss varnish the skin (look a lot diffrent) & the pools of blood, pools blood will follow with some PVA glue

- Still to finish the dead Ultramarine

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC03999.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04000.jpg

The darker bloodletter the only model to be finish with the gloss varnish, still waiting on the PVA glue in the pool of blood to fully dry.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04001.jpg

My Icon bloodletter just been ink on the bone banner/icon

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04002.jpg

Finial here my stock slowy gathering, with a soul grinder, 20ish Bloodletter & a box Undead who skull be use for my Skull-taker conversion.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04003.jpg

So right now the aim to get the bloodletter unit on the first photo fully painted by tomorrow afternoon. Then Tue will see some of the Bloodletters & my Soul grinder getting built.

Though I am a little annyed due to one of my Bloodletter has went missing & no idea where he went to :P

Anyway by look my aim for this army to get them ready before the 13th Dec so right now all I have is my three unit of Bloodletters & Soul Grinder. Still need to convert Skull taker (uselung the new WFB Juggernaut from the Warrior of chaos lot), 8x Bloodcrusher & 2 soul grinder.

Aim to get a Soul Grinder & 1 Bloodcrusher next Tue.

It's about time IP. Looking forward to seeing this come together. I'll especially be looking forward to some speed painting tips along the way. My vain attempts at a 2 months+ deadline failed miserably. :D

Plus, always nice to see defeated Ultras on the bases as well. :P A nice touch to say the least. :)

Keep the updates coming. -OMG

I'm sure you'll find him soon, probably when you stand on him :D looking good so far, your 'letters are much lighter than mine, it's definately a good scheme, looking forward to seeing your skully conversion.

Just a quick update with the Daemons.

Soul Grinder:

Just started work on the soul grinder, right now just basic

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04004.jpg

Conversion I'm aim to do a bit of battle damnge from bullet holes to scratchies. Also I added a base to the Soul Grinder, just IMO look cooler & also mean if someone bump into the tables the legs will not be bump (or if glue just so they don't snap off).

For the base I am useing those cd's you get with the computer cd's

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04005.jpg

After the photo was taken the base has been undercaoted. Just PVA glue dose not re-act well with this nor dose green stuff from my experince. So undercaot just give the glue & green stuff something better.

I am to do some work on the base later tonight, add a few more dead Space Marines.

Also on the Bloodletter front

The models have fully dry but sadly not turn out the way I wanted them to which is a bit of a annoyince (sp). However my friend who done the Daemon posted in the first part, he told me how he done his Bloodletter & it still a nice fast way of painting them. It just going to be the Foundy Red paint, dry brush Blood red, a mix of Blood red & some organge (Blaze I belive?) & then some mud wash over the model.

Sword I am thinking with the rest of the Bloodletter that still be painted... I am aim to do some Chaos ruines.

So sort of rubbish that it not turn out way I wanted them but hay... I am going to try do better & do a few diffrent things with the rest my Bloodletters.

This week goal is

Tue (tomorrow) - Build two unit of Bloodletters, try pick up another box of Bloodletter & the paint's needed. Try green stuff the gap on the soul grinder later in the night.

Wed - Try to base these Bloodletters & soul grinder

Thur - Paint the new Bloodletter with the new colour I have planned out

Fri - Aim to get a start on my Soul Grinder

Also with some hope I will eather pick up (along with the Bloodletter/paint) a Soul Grinder or some bloodcrusher. Wait & see near time.

Just a little bit of a update.

Spent most of today trying to get my Bloodletter all built, but it is getting a little soul destroying. So taken a nice break to post up some photos & then I will try get as much as I can that my wargaming club tonight

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04007.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04008.jpg

I have another box of Bloodletter that I still need to do up :)

Also yesterday I spent around three hour on my Soul Grinder & got it all finish & matt varnish

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04009.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04012.jpg

Also a bit of a close up on my Soul Grinder, lot happier with how the base turn out, compaired to the once I did for my Bloodletter above (mean more with the blood effect)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04010.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04013.jpg

Also I'm going to do some Chaos ruin on the swords (might not seem a good idea in term of mind destrpying :P but it will look cool). The Ruins say: Wind of Chaos.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04011.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04015.jpg

As said I'm going to aim to get my Bloodletter built, the once I have base (seen above) I'll aim to get them undercaoted in a bit & try to paint them tomorrow try make them better than the once above & also got a lot idea in my head.

Have you tried superglue? I know plastic glue gives a better hold, but bloodletters are so skinny it takes too long, as you seem to have found out ^_^ 'grinder looks awesome, those runes transfers or freehand?

what mix of color did you use for the grinder body? I kinda like it, I have to do two grinders soon and one needs to represent Nurgle. I too am trying to get my daemon army done by Dec. 18th, Check out my thread here too.

Stay on it, great progress so far too.

Sorry it already been posted about when I said about my idea on the soul grinder

Soul Ginrder I will be going for a green flesh being Knarloc Green, heavy wash of Badab Black, wash of Devlan Mud, Dry Brush with Knarloc Green, Very lighting dry brush Rotting Flesh.

With this army the most paint I will be useing is Foundastion (sp?) paint & the new wash  Should not take that long to paint, only thing is with it being winter the wash will take a little longer to dry then normal. Also on that note, after the black wash I will paint the red area of the armour & highlight it (not shown because flash from camera) then when it come to the Mud wash I tend to wash the whole model getting it all that once.

Have you tried superglue? I know plastic glue gives a better hold, but bloodletters are so skinny it takes too long, as you seem to have found out 'grinder looks awesome, those runes transfers or freehand?

I did not mean by glue them, sorry. Just having to try build 28 of them in a day dose getting a bit soul destroying, glue had nothing to do with it ;) . I tend to use Superglue more because of the faster to dry & it you get a little bit to much on the models, dose not ruin them/melt detail.

As for the ruin, yes the been free hand. Check out my Iron Warriors army in the finish part of these fourms, lot free hand ruin on the banner & MoCU :)

One thing though: dont use gloss varnish on miniatures!

Matte is a lot better, because gloss will make them shine too much!

I am not going to be useing Gloss varnish anymore. The orignaly idea was to make them look more like fresh blood. But the Test models posted above as said they did not turn out so great. So the Bloodletter will now be Matt & also just pretty matt varnish like I do all my armies ;) it was merely to try somthing new.

Going to get me some Bloodletter undercaoted & try out the new colours with the tip my friend given me. Also I will aim to just get all my Bloodletter built tonight or that least finish tomorrow. Then the next to buy going to be BLOODCRUSHER!!!!! (in mortal kombat style voice) & if the chaos gods are kind ( :) ) I might be getting a few Soul Grinder bits which mean I get to use a Deflier I had laying around since I got the spearhead.

So yes the army getting along in term of getting there as after the bloodcrusher & some soul grinder bit, just skull taker/last soul grinder/last bloodcrusher & that the army.

If all gose well I should get some photos up tonight.

I too am trying to get my daemon army done by Dec. 18th, Check out my thread here too.

Yes I'll have a look that it in a few min. With my own Daemon the idea going to be... painting wise I want to get them fully painted before x-mas, however I would like to get my force all bought before the 13th Dec due to that when my wargaming club running a specil all Sat Session before x-mas. So be good to try out the Daemon.

Also over next few while I'll put the army list up & what finish, near done, built or un built.

But right now

Fri (today) - Paint a few Bloodletter to test out the painting.

Sun - Try get a few more Bloodletter done aim to get that least a squad finish

Mon - Try get a second unit finish.

Tue - Buy Bloodcrusher

Wed - Aim to get the Bloodcrusher built & undercaoted.

Then see what happen after that. I have four weeks by my guess, three week? to try get the whole army bought.

Well better go & undercoat me some Bloodletters & thanks for the comment :D

Another quick update.

As said the first few Bloodletter I done, did not turn out as I would have like them. So taken tips from my friend who painted the Daemon force above I been having a test right now. So though I share a little step by step painting to help other out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04016.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04017.jpg

So from right to left aftre spray my model with GW Black undercaot (also base the model before to seal the sand)

- I started by base coating the Bloodletter with Mechrite Red, once this was dry I put on a nice heavy wash of Devlan Mud. Just really help pick out the shaded area's

- After this dry I painted Blood red on, leaveing the above in the dark area of the models.

- After this dry I mix a bit of Blazing Orange with Blood red & then highlighter the rise area. Again once this dry I just wash of Devlan Mud then use yellow (can't rememeber which one) to paint the dots.

Right now the models are still WIP so some stuff might be added on or taken away??

As for the sword & the greensih area is paint the sword chaos black, highlight with goblien green, dark green ink (no longer in stock), then highlight with Skull White (also this is when I will be doing the chaos ruin) follow by another one or two dark green ink's.

As for the base, Shasdow grey follow by codex grey. While the blood is Red Gore follow by Cheatnut ink (no longer in stock).

Not going to get much painting done tomorrow. But will aim get some work tomorrow night & try get the other four Bloodletter painted once I'm happy with the above testing.

Lookin' good so far IP! I've been debating doing a Daemon army next, so I will be watching with great interest. :tu:

There nothing to debate :) Rememeber the power of chaos command it & favour those who collect all area of it power (I have BFG IW fleet, Chaos for WFB, might do some city of the damned, but these are for another fourm).

While here a little update.

Was a little bit busy yesterday helping with my wargaming club all Sat session. But got home & manger to finish off four of my unit of 8 Bloodletters

These photos where taken by 1pm today

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04019.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04020.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04021.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04024.jpg

Also as the models are now (just waiting on the Bleach Bone to dry before ink them with flesh wash)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04025.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04027.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04028.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04029.jpg

So after this post I'm going to try ink the horn & bone area.

Try detail the dead Ultramarine on one of the base

Paint the eyes.

Aim to get the last four models varnish by tomorrow morning. Then spend rest of the day building a squad of 10 Bloodletters & base them, then paint most them that my local GW on the Tue. Also aim (depend money) to buy a few thing, mainly Bloodcrusher & if I have enough a second Soul Grinder.

The models don't take that long to paint, it just more waiting on the wask/ink to dry & due to the winter time the paint taken a little longer to dry. But after that it all simple work really.

On Wed, I also aim to get the third & last unit of Bloodletter undercaoted & base coat/wash then aim to paint them a week on Tue again that local GW.

Forgot to add in, preffer these new Bloodletter compaired to the once I orignaly posted up (once with gloss varnish).

While here a little update.

Don't I know it! :) I also have a BFG fleet plus Beasts and Warriors of Chaos armies for WFB. I guess Daemons are just the natural progression. ;)

The latest batch of BL's are looking good.

When you next do a black wash try a 50/50 Thraka Green & Purple and try it out. It makes a great Black Wash.

(Just a small suggestion)

Otherwise I like em.

I don't use Black Wash, as said there it Devilen Mud ;) But thanks for the tip ;)

I should have my Bloodletter (squad of 8) finish later today & start my unit of 10 later.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/Daemons/DSC04047.jpg

Also after checking my money, look like tomorrow will see me ether buying my Bloodcrusher. Then next Tue buy my other unit of Bloodcrusher, while one of my Soul Grinder, well have to wait & see what happen tomorrow.

As for the third & finial soul grinder, wait & see how kind the chaos gods are to me (if there listing ;) )

Might pick me up the WFB Juggernaut for SKULLTAKER :)

For a army that started last Sun, I feel the project going pretty well. Even with the little mess up with my first unit of Bloodletter orignaly posted as well as that missing Bloodletter (still not found him which is a pain & I check everwhere). I can't wait to start work on my Bloodcrusher, there update... I am aim to start painting them on Fri.

Going to look out my bits box for my Marine parts as I want to add some more dead Ultramarines as though they been squish by the Bloodcrusher.

So that it from me. See about a update tomorrow night... just depend how tired I am ether way a update will defo happen on the Wed during the day.
