Hi everone

 

It seem I am painting a lot of armies right now which is great as nothing better than seeing a fully painted army.

 

So far (apart from my Iron Warriors) my last log have been

If that was not enough I have already started my next project... as the title give it away, it will be Deathwing. As my friends have said I am a painting & gaming machine.

 

I've alway like the background for the Deathwing also other thing like, it easy to carry around in the event I need to do a lot of traveling & it not possible to carry to much.

I have quite a few Termies in my bit box so though be good putting them to use.

I like Owen Rees Dark Angels force having seen his in the flesh that the UKGT heat 1 of 2007.

 

So what going what going be in the log or what is the challenge this time ;)

 

- Spray gun. I been waiting since x-mas to try out my Spray gun but never really had anything I wanted my spray gun to be use on. Also having done a NQ to HND model making course I've use the spray gun a lot & have a lot of skill/effect. Also having just use the GW spray gun a mere few min ago I can say I really like it.

 

- Conversion, for those that know me, I like my conversion. It basicly going to be useing the Black Templar loin cloth, some of the Dark Angels robe heads (be for Sarg).

 

My list is nothing specil but felt this might be good for people to see what to come from this log

 

Deathwing Master - will base him on John Blanch art work from the 2nd Ed days, it is also on page 13 I think of codex Dark Angels

Librarian w/Combi Plasma - Be cool to have a model stand out a bit with the Blue armour

3x unit of 5 Termies with Missile Launcher (also arm with Lighting claw)

2x unit of 5 Termies with Assault Cannon

Standard Bearer upgread in a unit!!!

Finial the Test model, when useing the spray gun I strong suggest you use a spare model or somthing to test the spray gun be it a pice of paper anything. Having had that said to me in my model making college course & the last thing you want is to mess up your spray gun with paint being to thick or to watery.

When trying the new spray gun I notice right away my paint was a little to water before doing the above models.

The base coat is a 50/50 mix of Graveyard Earth & Bleachbone (sp). As for the rest, I'll be testing the models out with the GW Wash & see what effect I can get.

 

Try get some more photos in the afternoon once there a bit more paint on these models.

 

As for the spray gun, I'll try show some the skill I learnt in my model making course on the Test model possible tomorrow to show the diffrent effect, etc...

Little quick update, I been testing colour & wash to get a fast way to paint this army but same time make it look cool as end of the day it all about find a way to paint that suit you & just look cool :D

My assault cannon. As you see I'm useing red a bit, want to keep with a sort of knight theme eg: way Grey Knight have there sheild/pads. Also just add a bit of colour. So be doing this for all my Termies with the black & red colour from half to chess board effects on the knee, sheild part, pads, etc...

As for painting the Deathwing, I have done the following

 

- Mix 50/50 with Graveyard Earth & Bleach Bone for the spray gun

- Mud Wash the whole model

- Paint Bleach Bone leaving the shade from the wash in the armour joints

- re-wash with Gryphonne Sepia

- Dry Brush with Bleachbone so this blend the armour together

- Lightly dry brush with Skull White

- High light with Skull white (not really brough up in the photos due to the flash, but flash is needed in order to get the detail other wise photos are to dark)

 

Then it just detail from the weapons, etc.... Just the wash will take a while to dry (with it being cold & snow for pass few days dose not help that all)

 

I'll spend a few more min painting & then I am going to try & build a squad up ready for spray tomorrow ;)

They look good IP! The spray gun seems to do the trick! Seeing as the sarge is looking down at a falen angel will there be a disected/smooshed corpse in front of him? Also maybe some litanies on the armour to break up the bleached bone a little and some more extreme highlights on the red to bring them up a bit more?

Yes there will be text on the Termies, trying to fit them with the Knight them as much as possible :) Should be working on the three posted above tomorrow & aim to get them finish, also need to free hand paint the Dark Angels icon on shoulder pads :(

 

For the Fallen Angel, sadly not. However I do need Object marker ;) so can alway have a Fallen Angel who been slaughter (Would the DA still be atfer the armour with it being classic)

 

Thanks again. I got another squad made (only four memeber right now) with Missile Launch in the unit. Might get the spray gun done tonight but none the work willbe done until next week (got a WFB Chaos force to get ready for a tournament in 6 week time I belive??)

I just really enjoy useing the GW Spray gun. As said few post up I finish my NQ/HNC/HND model making course, so useing the spray gun for three year. I can tell right away when useing the GW one what wrong, what need changing, or when in my GW & someone said they might have a problem (eg: paint block) I can pin point what need to be done to sort it :lol:

Also I notice with these models I not really use much of the paint I've mix, only 3% been use to be honsty :D

 

Anyway... as for the Deathwing.

 

My plans are

- The current three models show first, I hope to get them fully painted by Fri.

- The new squad shown in this post I aim to paint them on Tue.

- Aim to buy a box of Termies. As you will notice one unit that three the other that four. So this box will bulk them out & also give me a few models left over in order to make my HQ's, mainly the Master of the Deathwing.

Still a lot work to be done. Aim to get a fair bit of painting done tomorrow but going to be busy trying to make these, unit of Sternguard for my Iron Hands & a 2250pts WFB Chaos warrior force over the next six weeks.

Try get some Termies finish by Sun that least, give the over all view on what I am aim. Just wanting my Deathwing to stand out a bit as why the red/black :)

Time for another little update.

 

First all been a little dely due to real life stuff. For those who do not know I finish a HND model making course (Architectural, prop, protype) & since Dec time there I been getting some commission (film student, work experince, old teach from the course looking for people to help out with some models) so from time to time this take away my time.

Recent one being where I had to travel from 7.30am to get to the place & then not leave until 6/7pm (£10 a hour pay) & then add on travel to get the commisson work done for a model due for a TV ad.

 

Now reason I bring this up is, the main thing with this project (& same gose with my Iron Hands & Daemon & any future project) it to show people who have a busy life that even if they can spend 30min a day they can still get some painting & modeling done & have that really cool fully painted force... may take a while. But sit down & focuse it can be done, just mere 30min to a hour or 2 if you can.

It just from hearing from a lot people (don't mean this to sound bad) that they lack time for painting yet I also find out they do have some free time when they do nothing.

 

For me I tend to use tournament to get me to fully paint armies, but now aim to set myself 5-8 week to get a 1500pts force fully paint as it been a while since I had a army fully painted & I use to feel like I had no time that all. But all this will change (as seen with Daemon & Iron Hands).

 

Anyway enough rambling on B) now to the photos of the models

There some paint that I miss on the models show above but get that sorted once I am in full swing with this new unit.

 

So as for next update

Hope to get the new unit finish on the building side by tomorrow & then see them painted on Tue/finish on Wed

Will also pick up another box of Termies on Tue.

Very nice!! The airbrushing technique came out quite well! One thing that irks me, is the one with the hood...it would have been a bit nicer if you had chopped the back off some more, so he would be able to look up.

Use the finest brush you have. And lick it right before you put it in your paint (before using it.) and clean it often, so you can keep the point nice. Steady both your hands by putting them together, or resting them on your desk.

 

Edit: and for the straight lines, use pencil to map out what you'll be doign first

I'm so jealous of your free hand script.

Do you have any tips apart from patience?

 

You just need a detail brush (I don't use fine detail because feel it make them to thin) & just make sure that the brush has a sharp point, eg... brishle (sp) not going everwhere.

Other than that I would use a fine technical (sp) pen that some people use for blacking (Paul Swayer from White Dwarf).

 

They do not take long, not even a min. Also just keep a steady hand while painting. Just as long as it not to thick or very thin you should be alright.

 

Also a quick update on models I hope to get fully painted by tomorrow

Also here my Master of the Deathwing, may not seem much as I hope for (was aim for the art work from John Blanch done, but could not find a WD in which a GW mail order staffer made a nice conversion of this). However there will be a lot free hand work painted onto this Master of Deathwing ;)

So yes tomorrow aim to get these models fully painted or that least finish on the Wed, then start on my new unit. Really need to start some other project as I'm running out of stuff to paint right now :D

ANother little update :P

 

Current the Deathwing have been put on the back set on my "to do" list, however I have been working on the models should in the last post on & off.

 

The dely mainly due to I got a lot thing to do hobby wise this time being

 

- Recently one my friends has given me a commission to paint some green hordes xeno filth for him which will be starting tomorrow

- I got to get a Chaos army (it for some fourm of heretic that use magic & gun powder know as Warhammer Fantasy) done as I will be stand in player for my local gaming club tournament (got until 4th April for that & only 1% done)

- I also got to get my Iron Warriors ready for the first half of this year tournament session, not much just the odd model being updated like Daemon Prince & new loot counter which I can show you lot since there power armour & it my log :P
