As I noted there, I've been reluctant to post pics because, well, I'm about average at best and also put no effort into the bases. Nevertheless, just so you know why the army was only rated 12/20 for appearance at that tourney, here are samples. Don't worry about being critical, I'm well aware of my artistic limitations. B) That said, don't expect me to go back and redo anything, no matter how well-founded the advice. DH was my first foray into miniatures painting (and gaming), and I learned a lot. I'm taking that experience and spending more time and effort with my in-progress Tau army than I spent on the my DH. :lol: Apologies in advance for the picture quality. I can say that my grey knights were the victims of my first paint jobs...hopefully there will be a day that I can muster the will to simple green them and apply what I know now. And washes! WarriorFish Posted February 15, 2009 Share Posted February 15, 2009 I noticed that a couple of the bases had a bit of a steaky covering so tidying that up would help a lot since there's nothing wrong with the bases otherwise. Really though, that's not a bad job done - it may seem modest compared to some of the models we see on the BnC but most of us will never be that good. Besides, anyone that puts the effort in to paint an army deserves kudos in my book codex. But after looking at your own work, I know you're just being nice. ^_^ I pretty much painted the army following the steps outlined in the DH codex ... just couldn't get the same results. ;) I used watered down blue ink as a wash to darken the recesses for "pop". I am being nice, but I respect that people are all different - You put in effort, and That is great - it doesnt mean that effort costs me more than it does you - I dont see it as relevant to the results as much as relevant to the method - and you have put a great deal into your work.. (your results are good too) there are alot of people who wish they had your army and painting standard.. I love how bright your models are and the metallics.. I struggle to get mine as bright - and it takes me some time - I used watered down blue ink as a wash to darken the recesses for "pop" I see it now, the problem with washes are that they tarnish the whole area, not just the recesses - can I suggest maybe that you score yourself a pot of babdad black, and a fine fine brush (GW ones are too thick) and just run it in the recesses? that way, you dont get various thickness lines, it runs INTO the recess and even if you go outside the desired area it will be less noticiable - and you keep your bright colours.. Brother Tual Posted February 16, 2009 Share Posted February 16, 2009 I got it at an art shop - $4 AU I think - its a Francheville 220 Taklon - size 20/0 - just a cheapo one but it lasted the distance and it doesnt loose hairs - Very soft bristles..
