Hello everyone and welcome to ROUND 02 of the Nestir V AoD.
Today is May 01st and as promised we are restarting.
I will not be presenting the Round 02 intro story today, that will be up tomorrow.
Instead we will be looking at some info for Round 02 and hopefully get people talking in the "Secret" Forums again.

HOW MANY ARE STILL ACTIVE?
Well, I quarried 36 people who have shown an interest in the AoD.
Out of these I got 16 Answers.
Everyone who answered are interested in continuing the AoD, but not everyone will be contributing with stories etc.
The stats are as follows:

36 people were asked.
16 Answered.
10 Will actively contribute with stories, art etc.
5 Will be active in the forums but not make anything.
1 Will try to follow the stories but will not be active in any way. (With a very good reason).
20 Did not answer. (Some of these will probably not be back, but some of them have been very active in the past and will probably be back eventually).

8 Answers were from the Loyalist side.
7 Were from the Traitor side.
1 Answer was from me.

I have answered no more than a couple of the answers that came in, so to everyone who did answer but did not get a reply, you have my apologies.

BATTLEFORCE STRENGTHS AT
THE START OF ROUND TWO:
LOYALISTS: 53 %
TRAITORS: 40 %

ROUND TWO BATTLES
Ok, as for the Battles, we now have 6 Traitors and 8 Loyalists.
We will be running 5 Regular Battles in Round 02.
Then the sixth and last Battle in the round will be a TWAM! Battle, if we get volunteers from both sides to take part in it.
If we do not get volunteers from both sides, this also becomes a regular battle.

For those counting, this means that all the Traitor Characters will have had a battle, while two of the Loyalist characters in the round will be on the bench for this round; effectively buying them a free pass to Round 03.

Battle Match-up Battle Type
01. 1T vs 1 L Regular
02. 1T vs 1 L Regular
03. 1T vs 1 L Regular
04. 1T vs 1 L Regular
05. 1T vs 1 L Regular
06. 1T vs 1 L TWAM!

As for the storyline / location of the Battles, this will be dictated by win/loss ratio of the Earlier Battles and will not be known to you until the next battle is presented for discussion, planning and points allocation / voting.

POINTS ALLOCATION AND VOTING
In the past we have tried Voting by the public, but this seemed to be won by the Loyalists to often for comfort.
Then we tried Matching by Points-bidding which seemed more fair, but this left the General public and a large part of the forum activity (and thus interest) out of the picture.
Both things have given cause for concern.

So, this round we will be trying something new. - We will combine Point-bids, Voting and Buying.

POINT-BIDS:
Each side will start with an Energy reservoir of 100 points, or 100% if you will.
Then you may use of this "energy" to bid for the Match-up your side finds to be the most favorable.
You may only bid in whole points, not halves.
You already know this process. Except that rather that bidding points on a Character pr. Character basis, you bid on the full Match-up.

So say the Loyalists bid 12 points on Chaplain Lycan vs. Cryus Crom.
and the Traitors bid 23 Points on Apoc Everkill vs. Lord Hakon Greymane
The Traitors win the bid for their Match-up and both sides have their bid points deducted from the total Energy Reservoir they have available.

NOTE!
You MUST bid!
You may bid 0 points, but if you do not bid by the set deadline, you will lose the same amount of points as the other side bid, and you will lose the bidding round.
You may lose more energy points than you have. The overshooting loss will be transferred to the next round!!

VOTING:
While the Character Match-ups are decided by bidding, there will be a Vote going out to the General public as well.
The Vote will concern the Battlegrounds.
For every new Battle, 5 different locations will be set up for the vote.
Each location will be a sub-location of a larger storyline area, but will hold different Battleground effects.
You know the drill here already as well. Effects can vary, but examples are:
Nothing. Plasma missfireing. Power Weapons going haywire. Slow movement. Hazardous Terrain. etc.

Your job will be to choose the location with an effect that enhances your strengths while diminishing the enemy's strengths. Though this will be a challenge as the Bid runs side by side with the vote.
Maybe you can guess the other side's match-up by their choice of Battleground?...
Anyway, You chose a battleground and try to convince the public to vote for it.
I expect to see some nice Trash-talk here and hope it will function as a motivational activity booster.

BUYING:
In addition to the Bids, you will also receive a list of Battle effects for each Battle.
This list will reflect the fluff to some degree, but both sides will get balanced effects you MAY buy from.
The lists will wary and be open for all to see, though you buy an effect in secret.
You may only buy ONE effect pr Battle and buying one will be rather expensive.
The lists can be made up from: Special Battlefield effects. Special Weapons. Special abilities, attacks or defences...
Examples can be: Cave-in. Orbital Bombardment. Sprint. Spin attack. Block.
Costs will vary, but they will all be expensive, so it is up to you to discuss and decide if it is worth it.
In addition to this you will be able to buy a Battleground Vote Override. But this will be EXTREMELY expensive.

TWAM! - THE WHOLE WORLD AGAINST ME!
If we get voluters, this will be the last Battle of the Round.
This is a One on One Battle where both sides are at great risk of dying.
What the effect will be is yet to be seen, but it could be an earthquake, an unknown army attacking both the Characters etc.
And the rewards will also be GREAT for the survivors. But for now, lets see if we get any volunteers.
I suggest you discuss it in your Planning Rooms.

AND FOR THOSE WHO DONT REMEMBER
We already have a couple of Challenger Battles, though they still need to be voted on.
No reason why Both sides cant collaborate here though, if you so wish.

THE SHOWDOWN: Sigismund vs. Renik

THE SOFISTICATED: Yogi vs Brother Cambrius.

Well, I think that is enough to digest for now.
We will get back to the storyline and Battle One tomorrow.
Best of Luck to everyone!

Now GO DISCUSS!

Only chaos is eternal.

Well, it seems me and the chaos boys will be the underdogs now, but that just means we get to kill more imperial lapdogs. msn-wink.gif

Once our great father Horus led us to the gates of Terra! There he was slain by the false emperor and his weakling primarchs. Now they worship that rotting carcass as a god! Horus might have been weak and foolish, but we, his Sons, still live on! Abaddon leads us to greater glory with each of his crusades and eventually we will show our brothers that true power demands sacrifices! No-one will stand in our way, be it the lapdogs of the weakling Imperium or our brethren in the other legions! We are the Black Legion! WE ARE RETURNED! -Neigorath the Thrice Accursed, captain of the 8th Grand Company of the former Luna Wolves during the battle for Cadian Gate.

This looks interesting CMG, a lot of thought appears to have go into it and it really does look a lot of fun thumbsup.gif Just one question, do the points for "Buying" come from the points bid group?

Renik, are you up for the first battle to be the Showdown™?

Glad to see people getting avtive again. smile.gif
A Showdown certainly would be an interesting intro.

Yes indeed.
Part of the idea is that the group needs to really think about whether or not this is something you want to do.
And you never know if the other side does the same.

what is meant by challenge battles is when somebody calls out a member of opposing team to fight for example .If you flick through few of the threads in this forum you will see me and Sigismund regularly have debates on the wrongs of the imperium. And as much as i do agree in his taste in music he still is someone who fronts a place based on secrets and lies and will soon learn the error of his ways the cult will come soon enough and there plan will start.

Sorry about the delay people, but I'm back now.
Good to see we have some volunteers for the TWAM smile.gif
If more people want to volunteer, just step up too. We still need to have the volunteers voted in for the battle...

Anyway, I'm presenting you with the Chaos intro for Round Two today, then you will be getting the Imperial one tomorrow, as well as the Battle One set-up either tomorrow or saturday - possibly accompanied by a Battle One intro story.
For the intro to Round Two I've written a rather extensive intro, but per your wishes I will try to lessen the amount of in-between stories in the future and leave it more up to the other authors.

So, here is the Chaos intro.
Enjoy! smile.gif

-------------------------------------

Captain Alexander Holus of the Legio sat down on a snow covered rock and sighed.
He had been walking for what must at least have been a month and he had finally reached far into the snow clad mountains he he had seen from afar on the snowy steppes below.
He sat now and contemplated his journey so far, as he gazed out on the panoramic vista that was the place from which he had started his journey. - He thought he saw some sort of Bison-like creatures in the snowy mist down there sometimes, but it was to far away for him to be sure.

His armour's internal chronometer showed that it had been 32 days since his journey here started. - Since then he had had no other company than his Power Armour's Machine Spirit and whatever entertainment was stored in it's databases. - Mostly that was all info on Nestir V.
Still, even with all that info, neither he, nor the suit's Machine Spirit recognized any of the features of this landscape.
Sometimes Holus thought he had died and gone to the land of the dead and sometimes he thought he could see the misty form of some long lost soul wandering the eternal wasteland, but they were always to far away to reach these souls. - Plus they never answered when he called for them.

There was such an apparition looking at him right now, from a foggy hill some two hundred meters away in the snow and sparkling Aurora Borealis.
Holus thought he looked like an Eldar of some sort. A naked Eldar with a gem encrusted into each Temple, standing quite still in the frozen landscape.
Holus didn't bother trying to make contact. He had even tried firing his weapon at one such apparition once, but the Bolt-round had done nothing, just whisked past or through the "spirit" as if it wasn't there. - In fact his on-board machine Spirit told him just that; that it really wasn't there. Scans had shown nothing when one of the phantasms was near and Holus wondered if to long a time spent in solitude hadn't in fact rendered him just a little bit bonkers.

Still, there were other strange things too.
When he sat out on his long journey, he had worried about his food supply and his armour's ability to reprocess foodstuff for nourishment, but while he had felt a bit of hunger at first, he had eventually suppressed it and though he still could feel his hunger as a distant uncertain thing, he didn't seem to need nourishment; or at least not as much as he had originally thought.
"Maybe I really am dead", he thought for the hundredth time. - But then why would his Weapons, Armour and Machine Spirit still be with him?
Holus couldn't make any sense of it. All he could do was to keep walking, to keep searching for recognizable landmarks, and to hail his allies on the emergency channel.

Finally, he got up again and continued his long walk.

-------------------------------------

Fifty four days had passed since Adramalech's forces withdrew from Hive Primus and by now, Operation 'Blackest Rose' was well under way.

Adramalech stood unmoving like a statue in the huge underground chamber within which he had set up his base of operations. His eyes closed, as if in meditation or as if though communicating with someone far away.
As he finally opened his eyes, he vividly felt the shards of the shattered 'Aika Carrecenad' stones embedded in his temples, and the blue, black and purple veins lining his body seemed to pulse upon the face and arms of his huge, pale frame.
The enormous Warlord was clearly in some pain, but he hid it well; with good help from his ornate blood-red and bronze armour, his heavy fur cape and well groomed white beard.

Maintaining the psychic shield over his army was becoming a nuisance. Especially after spreading his forces over a wider area.
Luckily though, the innate abilities of his "shadow Men" Xenos allies also helped him conceal their whereabouts.
Adramalech closed his eyes again and rubbed his temples to ease the pain of the crystals that had allowed Jokul to bind him to this body. A move that eventually had trapped Jokul and let some small part of Adramalech free.
With the pain dispelled, he opened his eyes again and energetic fog flowed from the sides of his milky white eyes, as if though his eyes poured out frost smoke.

Adramalech let his gaze wander across the compound his army had established in this part of Nestir V's underground, nearly three hundred meters below the sub zero temperatures of the planetary surface.
The Chamber was enormous, and contained more than two thousand humans in differing states of filth and misery.
Humans weren't built for this kind of existence and Adramalech knew he would have to find a use for his army soon.
This underground tent-city was only one out of six though, but only three other such places actually held the humans of his Army. Just under 6000 in all. Yet they had to share the underground tent cities with their Xenos allies as well.
A few hundred of his men had disappeared during their time here and the human Commanders blamed their alien counterparts, but Adramalech suspected the real reason was cannibalism, and he knew most of his men suspected the same.
This made his people ever more restless.Yet they kept to their place, knowing that here at least they had some food, heat, shelter, and for now... relative safety.

Surrounded by his wolf-like bodyguards, the Ulfhedner, he stood and took stock of the situation. His men, their resources, their motivations, goals and sub-goals.
Mentally he went through every location in which he had men.
On patrols and missions. Through ancient tunnels; In the train stations; in mines; storage facilities; natural grottoes; water supply depots; near active Promethium wells; and along the largest underground lava river of the planet.
His operation stretched from some of the planet's deepest reaches, all the way up to the surface.
He had to keep mental stock of all the largest groups though, for as far as he could, he had to conceal their locations. To, for now at least to keep them secret and the mission safe.

Still taking in the cave city before him, Adramalech saw an Ambull come riding towards him through the crowded tent streets of human soldiers and the occasional Hrud warrior.
The Ambull were powerful creatures, broad necked and heavy, frequently used by the Imperium as beasts of burden. This one however carried the lithe form of Yana Orkan; Adramalech's former Eldar Pirate Lord attache and Farseer.
The Eldar looked like a powerful human warrior clad entirely in colours of rich green and earthy browns. A feature of the powerful psychic disguise that hid his Eldar origin. Adramalech though, off course, could see straight through it.
The Ulfhedner however could not and the biped wolves stood together to receive the rider with their claws extended, their sharp teeth barred and their yellow eyes glinting with gleeful hunger.
Adramalech dismissed their interest in Yana Orkan with a thought and felt their disappointment at not being fed this they.

The Farseer jumped off the Ambull with a grace that should have betrayed his none-human lineage had anyone else been there to see, but everyone else's attention was drawn to the Ambull as Yana walked past the Ulfhedner and Adramalech mentally commanded his bodyguard to feast.
The hunched over wolves sprang at Yana's surprised Ambull and tore it to pieces with their powerful extendable claws and sharp teeth, splattering their obsidian and bronze armour with thick red blood in the process.
Yana himself simply walked straight up to Adramalech and bowed. - If he had even noticed the spectacle unfolding behind him, he showed no sign that he cared.

"Report!", Adramalech commanded, his voice seeming sore, yet deeply powerful and calm.
"Asha Mon-Kiegh a uial BelahRill, Ard-Iathenna. - Uel Far Tirtu Ilirun Ashafares.", the Farseer quickly reported, and Adramalech fixed him with a stone cold glare.
"We talked about this.", he calmly explained. - "In the presence of allies you use High-Gothic", he whispered through clenched teeth, leaning ever so slightly closer while gladly noting that the Ulfhedner were making quite a racket doing their... thing.
Yana Orkan looked quizzical, as if though the mere thought of taking the clumsy, ineffective words of the Mon-Kiegh in mouth, left him feeling nauseated.
"Arrr enemy be gettin closer to locatin... 'the Glitterin Path', yer Lordship. - Located Hive Tertius and begun excavations the bilge-sucking beasts have".

Adramalech narrowed his eyes and lowered his head slightly in thought at hearing these news.
"We must speed up our process to stay ahead", he noted. "How long until the main well is dry?".
"All three of the Webway portals in the Promethium sea, be active, as ye well know; and been so for quite some time now they have.", Yana Orkan replied.
"Yer plan of distracting the base low-lives with the Hives has worked and arr efforts of drainin the Promethium basins near Tertius... well under way they be. - Mi... yer men at the off-world locations be report'n that receivi'n the fuel on the other end without incident they have been doin.
- So - be me calculations correct, and if withstand the continuous pressure the Webway can, then the main well near Tertius, drained in another six or seven weeks will be, says I.
Alas two other basins only, within the rest of the Promethium sea spanning throughout Nestir V, drained in this way can be. If ye be wantin the rest a the fuel, needin the Hive Cities ye will, me Crafty Captain." Yana Orkan said and the Eldar bowed once more, as if to indicate he had completed his report.

"The Hives are of no consequence", Adramalech replied, looking thoughtful.
"Once I have what I need, taking the Promethium, or the whole planet for that matter, will be a walk in the park.
Yet I cannot help but notice that you did not fully report everything Yana.", Adramalech said, fixing his Farseer attaché with a glare. Yana Orkan suddenly looked nervous and swallowed deeply.
"Appologies yer Lordship! - Must have slipped mi mind it must.
The thing of it is... Drain the basins any faster, we cannot. Fully open allready the portals be, and slowly making them collapse, the wear and tear on them is. Nothin more to do we can, to speed the process up".

"Then we shall have to slow the Imperials down", Adramalech said with a smile.
"How long for our trains to reach Hive Secundus? - 10, maybe 14 days?".
"Sounds about right says I", Yana replied after thinking about it.
"Then send for Brigadier Causidicus", Adramalech said with a smile. "And let us hope our good Captains 'Everkill' and 'Neigorath' have completed rigging the train properly..."

+ + + +

Close to two days later, Brigadier 'Prosum Causidicus' had finally arrived at Adramalech's tent and stood marveling at it's size and beauty.
The guards standing in front of it were not quite as inviting however, as he saw how the Black obsidian and bronze armour of the hunched over Ulfhedner, was covered in dry blood. - Even the wide shoulder guards and the usually ever so clean projectile weapons mounted to the underarms of the creatures' armour, were covered in what seemed like red, sticky rust.
"What poor sod wandered to close this time?", Causidicus wondered before proceeding towards the creatures. He had expected that he would have to call for Adramalech to get in, but as he approached the creatures, they simply parted way and let him in. - One of them snarled aggressively at him as he passed them by though.

Entering the tent, Causidicus saw the Warmaster standing with his back turned making some sort of brew.
Adramalech's Red, Lightning Clawed Gauntlets lay away to the side on a table full of maps, and the Brigadier noted how the Warmaster's black fingernails still seemed to be suffering from frostbite, standing in stark contrast to his otherwise albino-white skin.

"Tea?", Adramalech asked the Brigadier, turning around and offering him a cup.
Causidicus thought the whole notion of this powerful creature offering him tea seemed entirely improbable and meeting Adramalech's milky white, smiling eyes, he wondered for a moment, whether or not the brew being offered to him wasn't in fact poison. - To reject the offer however, may indeed be just as, if not more deadly he thought, and looking at Adramalech's extended hand offering him a hot drink, he finally decided to accept.
Adramalech chuckled in the low hum of his basso voice and moved over to his map table, taking a seat in a ornate and comfortable chair. He then offering a similar chair to Causidicus as well.
Hesitantly the Brigadier sat and sipped of his tea. - It was good, warm, sweet and filled with a good dose of brandy. - It reminded him of home.

The Brigadier noted that Adramalech still had the massive crystal slab of a bed with him and wondered why the mighty Warlord decided to rest upon such an uncomfortable and unwieldy piece of furniture. - Surely a field cot or even a sleeping bag would have been preferable. - More comfortable and a lot more handy when carrying out guerrilla warfare on a hostile planet.
His train of thought was interrupted however, as Adramalech addressed him.

"Sooo...", Adramalech began, and Prosum's attention was immediately focused upon the large Warlord.
"Brigadier 'Prosum Causidicus'", he continued, and Causidicus felt ill at ease hearing his full rank and name spoken out loud like that.
"What have you to report?", Adramalech finished his slow delivery and took a deep sip of his tee, looking at the Brigadier over the rim of his cup with milky white, yet smiling eyes.

Causidicus almost coughed up the hot tea in his throat, but then he swallowed hard instead, cleared his throat and put his cup down on the table.
"Well sir", he began. "Our defences are all in place as planned and the men are holding up rather well. We have had reports of a few more deaths due to brawls, but nothing to concern yourself about.
So far all patrols and missions have reported in as successful and I am glad to report that 'the train' now has been fully refitted to be driven by fossil fuel rather than electricity. - Also, it has been filled with Promethium and explosives as per your orders sir".

"Good, good!", Adramalech nodded approvingly.
"It is ready to go then?"
"Yes sir!", Brigadier Causidicus nodded, picking his cup up again to take a sip. "She is merely waiting for you to appoint crew, guardians, a target and the 'Go!' order sir." - Adramalech smiled. - This pleased him.
In that case I leave it up to you to appoint a crew to fuel the engine and keep the train going until it reaches its destination Prosum. - Though, do ensure that you use some of your weakest men.
I for one will appoint one of my strongest Captains and his men as the Guardians of our little surprise.
The target is 'Secundus' and the time-frame is 'all due haste'".
Causidicus nodded showing that he understood and took another sip of tea, feeling more confident now. - The Warmaster was pleased with him.

"Anything else I should know?", Adramalech said with a knowing smile, folding his hands across his lap and watching in mild amusement as his top ranked human officer suddenly looked out of place again.
"Well sir", Causidicus said, putting his suddenly empty cup back down with a sigh.
"There is a case of an enemy patrol of just over thirty Imperial Guardsmen and three Space Marine Scouts sir.
They were intercepted and killed near one of the entrances to one of our underground Forts". The Brigadier's gaze went to his left foot and he caught himself scratching at his ear.
"It seems the enemy is getting to close for comfort, sir", he finally said, meeting Adramalech's gaze again.

The huge Warlord got back to his feet and Causidicus followed suit, putting his hands behind his back while lifting his head too try and look more confident.
"High time we send them a message and a 'little' distraction.", Adramalech said looking down at the notes on his table, then back up at Causidicus again. "Prepare the train as we discussed. We are putting the wheels of this Warmachine in motion again".

"It will take weeks for it to reach Secundus sir", Causidicus said and Adramalech lifted one white eyebrow in wonderment at how the Brigadier had dared state something so obvious, as if though he hadn't already thought of it.
"I know!", Adramalech said slowly to make a point and the Brigadier suddenly turned red, looking quite embarrassed. "Send it anyway. - We will guard it well and it will arrive just in time to make a beautiful distraction".

Adramalec smiled maliciously and Causidicus knowing when he had been dismissed, was about to leave when Adramalech stopped him.
"Prosum", Adramalech suddenly said and the Brigadier halted mid step, not turning around, for fear that Adramalech somehow had smelled the slab of dried, human meat tucked away in his belt pouch.
"Yes my Lord?", he said with well hidden trepidation in his voice, and for a moment his thoughts went towards his gun, but remembering Adramalech's Ulfhedner Bodyguard he thought better of it and instead turned slowly around.
As he did so, Brigadier Causidicus wondered for a fleeting moment whether the biped wolf creatures that surrounded the tent may at some time have been among the legendary Space Wolf's, he had heard so much about, but then his eyes meet Adramalech's and all thought ceased.

"Make sure you eviscerate those men from the Imperial Patrol", Adramalech put directly into his brain. "Take some more of their meat, and ensure their bodies show up again far from here. - Preferably near some huge native predator's lair".
Adramalech shone a friendly smile that completely unsettled Causidicus and sent shivers down his spine.
"Thine will be done my Lord!", he said in a whisper, bowing deeply before hurrying off to carry out his orders.

Ok, so next up is the Imperial intro for Round 02.
This one is a bit shorter than the Chaos one, but it will be extended by the Battle one intro tomorrow, followed by the Battle one set-up, game mechanics and poll.
Hopefully people will have had a look at the introductions to Round Two by then.
So, here it is. - Enjoy!

-----------------------------------

"Sixty eight days. sixty eight days of this now!", Captain Jacqueline (Jack) P. Harkness, aka. Airheart, thought as her Thunderbolt, coded J02-1937. speed off at close to 1500 Kph. over the frozen deadlands of Nestir V.
Alone in her cockpit, she was some 26000 kilometers out of Hive Secundus with nothing but a deadly snow desert beneath her and her one wingman to keep her company.
They had just completed their first refueling a few minutes ago after taking over for the last poor bastards to fly the first stretch of this patrol mission.
The other team had been out here for close to ten hours and Jack expected she was going to be out here for just as long.
Now as they continued their long journey, following the subterranean land-train supply lines of the Hives, her mind wandered.
The flight had become a routine recon mission flown every other day for sixty eight days now and she wasn't expecting this trip to be any less boring than the others.
As the plane's surveillance equipment clicked away, searching for heat, movement and Emperor knew what else, she thought of how she had ended up here. - Picked up by Inquisitor Smith long ago in a far off place. "You are one of the most famous and probably among the best pilots I've ever heard of", he had told her. "How would you like to serve an Inquisitor?". - His smile had been very warm and charming, but since then she hadn't really seen any more of him for a while.

She missed the earlier days here at Nestir V, when they had actual air battles filled with exhilaration and adrenaline.
She had personally shot down an amazing two Hell Blades, but had no count as to how many times she had almost gone down herself. - Well, she had crashed that one time, but that wasn't here and it was ancient history by now.
"'Airheart', this is 'Iceman', are you reading what I'm reading? - Over.", came a sparkling vox message from Jack's Wingman, rudely ripping her out of her reverie.
Jacqueline checked her instruments and sure enough, there was a definitive heat and movement reading down there, but at 5000 feet the reading was faint.
"Affirmative, I do indeed Tom!", Jack replied. - "I'm calling it in now".

"Scion, Scion, this is Juliette two dash one niner three seven - Airheart. Do you read over?"
The vox of Jacqueline's cockpit spat noise as it connected to the orbiting warship 'Bloodied Scion'.
For a moment Captain Harkness wished she could rip her helmet off and get rid off the noise, but then the call went through and a rough voice greeted her.
"Scion - Airheart, you have something to report? - Over"
"I do indeed!", Jacqueline said, smiling broadly. "We have a green-light on both movement and a heat signature some twenty six thousand clicks out of Secundus. - Asking for permission to go low and read. - Over."
The vox vent silent for a while and Jacqueline was about to call in again when the answer came back. "The trap is clean, so the board is green. - Happy hunting Airheart!”
Jacqueline grinned from ear to ear. - Finally some action! - She fitted her oxygen mask and called for her Wingman, Tom, again. "Romeo Tango Foxtrot. - Shall we dance?"
"That is a go!", came the immediate reply, and Jacqueline set up her personalised portable music player. - The thing had cost her a fortune!
"On my mark!", she said and Iceman called back his readiness.
Jacqueline flipped down her photo-chromatic anti-flash tactical display visor and counted down. - "Three, two, one... - Mark!".
As the planes went into a dive of over 2200 Kph, rocketing towards the snowy ground, captain Harkness had but one thought in her head:

"I just love Wagner!".

Well, the Jack Harkness bit was a bit of a coincidence really.
I figured there weren't enough female characters in the AoD, and as I needed a pilot I figured, well, why not.
But I wanted her name to reflect upon other famous female pilots through history, as a sort of honorary remark, so I picked out a few names:

The first and most obvious to fall into my head was off course Amelia Earhart, but I thought that was way to obvious, so I decided to use a rewritten version of her name as the character's callsign instead: AirHeart. - Guess she likes to fly.
And the number of the plane is the date Amelia disappeared sad.gif July 02. 1937.

Jacqueline Cochran: Sat an international speed record in a plane, and she was also the first woman to ferry a bomber across the Atlantic.
She also did a lot of other cool stuff like being the first woman to break the sound barrier , and her nickname was Jackie. - So I used the nickname Jack.

Nancy Harkness Love A friend of Jacqueline, who among other things, trained Female pilots in WWII and was very successful at it.

Jackie Parker Was the first woman to qualify as a pilot of an F-16. - The P. in the character's name stands for Parker. - Oh and look, Jackie, again.

Jack Harkness was a lucky coincidence and I smiled when I saw what had happened.
Who knows, maybe the one who invented the other Jack Harkness had the same train of thought that I did...

The story has a couple more references in it to. Lets see if anyone picks up on them. smile.gif

Well anyway, here it is, finally, the last of the Round 02 and Battle 01 Intro.
Enjoy!

---------------------------------------

High above Nestir V, repairs to the ice planet's Orbital defenses were well under way, and maybe as much as forty percent of it's defenses was fully operational again.
Most of the Space debris from the battles the Crusade Fleet had been involved in, had been secured as well and it was currently under guard by some of the Imperial Crusade's many ships.
The majority of these ships still monitored and guarded Nestir V though, and though some of them still bore the scars of war, most of them had seen extensive repairs by now.

One such ship was the Legio's Flagship 'The Bloodied Scion'. Repairs to her interior had finally been completed, and now she hung over Nestir V like a colossal bird of prey, constantly monitoring the never-ending stretches of white arctic wasteland below.
The Headquarters of the Crusade's High Command had been moved back on board the gigantic ship and now several smaller craft were moving in for docking maneuvers. - A large meeting was about to take place.

+ + + +

"Commander on the Deck!", came the voice of an Aquilifer, and everyone on the bridge stood to attention as the Dreadnought form of Bannister walked onto the bridge followed by some of his closest Captains and two teams of the Legio's finest.
The huge war machine of a Commander was missing the Plasma Weapon side of his arm, as well as the signature Chainsword add on to his Powerfist arm, clearly showing that he was in a state of disrepair.
Bannister had had to be put into a state of stasis 36 days ago, when emergency repairs had had to be made to his life support systems after a critical failure to an old but essential system.
In order for the system to be replaced, the Dreadnought body was taken offline while the weapon systems were dismantled so the affected systems could be reached.
Reassembly was not yet fully done, but the Life support at least was back online.

During Bannister's downtime, Codicer Korvac of the Legio and the Inquisitors had tried to lead in his place, but there had been quite a few disagreements on the larger issues slowing the whole Crusade down.
Some of the Marine Captains had even begun complaining that their efforts at Nestir V were wasted and that they wondered how long they were supposed to wait before going after the enemy. - Most of them had been kept busy searching, but the enemy had proven near impossible to track.
Now though, with evidence of enemy movement, Storm and Smith had begun pressing the issue of time as well, and it had been decided that they needed a strong unifying leader again, so Bannister had been awoken earlier than planned.

"Actually, we have been working on awakening you for the last few days", Smith said to Bannister jogging at his side as they entered the huge command bridge and everyone returned to their duties.
"Well, I'm awake now!", Bannister said in a voice of harsh and gruff authority.
The party of Force Commanders stopped in the bridge's consultation circle and Bannister took in every face there. - Most of the Crusade leaders were present.

"Where is the General?", Bannister asked, looking straight at his Ordo Hereticus representative.
"Storm is with Captain Morg at Hive Tertius sir", came Rugajov's immediate reply.
"You found it?", Bannister asked.
"Not yet", Smith interrupted. "But more about that later".
Bannister gave Smith a glare and the whole room seemed to pause for breath, but then Bannister said "Very well. - Give me the lowdown on the situation". It was obvious the Crusade Commander was in a bad mood though, the way Dreadnought's tended to be just after being awoken.

"Order has been returned to Hive Primus and Secundus", Canoness Ophelia Arcadion said.
"People have been moved from Secundus to Primus as needed. Families have been reunited and relocated where necessary and a stable workforce to work on the repairs of Hive Primus and upkeep of Hive Secundus, has been fully established as per your orders".
The Canoness seemed quite proud of herself.
"The Imperial Guard as well as a few Marine forces have been kept busy like this as well" Smith said. "We have been making steady progress towards securing the planet's strategic locations as well as towards making life better for the freed Imperial populace".

"And Hive Primus?", Bannister said. "I need More details!"
Xavier Crussis grimly stepped up to report. "Large portions of the sub-levels of Hive Primus have been tidied up and what little remains that Wolf Lord Hakon Greymane could find of Space Wolf Battle Leader Thor and his Strike Team have been recovered".
Chaplain Calgon, standing next to Xavier continued. "The dead have, as far as we known, all been found and laid to rest, or in the very least, we have purged their bodies with Promethium and flame where needed. The ground has been consecrated and blessed by the Imperial Church, and work on tidying up the ruins is well under way". Bannister seemed to approve.

Taking the word again, Crussis continued his report. "The Power Station of Hive Primus has been repaired and reactivated. As has its primary environment shields.
The collapsed Land-Train tunnels remain collapsed though. - At least for now. We have however established a hole large enough for Scout Patrols to get through and a few patrols have been sent on week long patrols."
"I remember!", Bannister said gruffly. "I ordered the patrols".
"Indeed, so you did", Xavier said. "However, the Patrols have had no luck to show for their efforts".
"I trust this subterranean entryway to the city is guarded by now?", Bannister said in a way that made it unclear whether it was a question or a remark, but Xavier decided to interpret it as a question anyway.
"Yes it is", he said seeming annoyed."How?", came Bannister's brusque reply.
"Well!", is all Xavier said, and that is all he needed to say.
"The Nex Spensa platform has been stabilized after the battles there and the Altirtonus Spaceport has undergone heavy repairs, making it almost fully operational again", Xavier continued. - Being the resident expert in siege works and architecture, he felt it was his duty to rely the work he had monitored on the rebuilding of Primus.

"The two Hive towers that collapsed are still untouched, but the section of the outer wall that they tore down with them has been covered up by insulated plastic sails meant to protect the city against the cold outer atmosphere of the planet.
Some repairs have begun on the wall as well, and so far the internal atmosphere of the city seems to be holding up quite well".
"Excellent!", Bannister said, obviously pleased that things had been going well in his absence.
"You have all done well at Primus and Secundus!
But what of our search at Tertius?".

"As I'm sure you remember", Inquisitor Rugajov began. - "An Imperial Recon force was tasked with locating and following the lava river of Hvergelmir along Nestir V's largest tectonic plate. - Seventeen days ago, this lead them to find the now snow covered ruins of Hive Tertius.
You should know however, that Storm has been put under 'guard' by Elite forces loyal to Ordo Hereticus, for... 'protection'".
"If you wait but a moment", Captain Eutronus Amorphous interrupted, and Bannister turned towards him. - "We will get Storm live on the vid-feed".

Seconds later, the image of Storm appeared on one of the Bridge's many secondary view-screens. The reception was poor with the image popping and jumping as noise ran slowly across the screen, and it was clear that a severe blizzard was blowing all around her, kicking up snow and making her seem very small and cold inside her thick fur clothing. Her head and face was covered by a fur-lined parka hood, an insulated rebreather mask and large orangy snow glasses; yet she stood ready to represent her findings from Tertius.

"Good morning sir!", she yelled over the howling wind of the blizzard. "It's good to see you back up on your feet again old friend!".
"Good morning to you too!", Bannister replied in a less gruff voice than usual.
"I am pleased to see you are still in one piece as well, but I can see you are in a bit of a ruff down there. Can't you broadcast from inside?".
"Yes!", Storm replied. "It is a bit nippy down here today and I would broadcast from inside if I could, but I'm afraid we had to move to higher ground in order to get better transmitting conditions. - No tents or vehicles up here I'm afraid. They've all been securely placed down a valley, as well out of the wind as possible!".
Bannister nodded his understanding. "I shall try to keep you as shortly as possible", he said.
"Please report what you can!".

Storm nodded and had to take a step to steady herself as the wind almost blew her over. - When she had regained her balance, she began her report.
"The area is nothing more than a snow covered ruin the size of a mega city by now Sir, and the whole landscape is riddled with the remains of thousands upon thousands of fallen meteorites".
Storm turned around as if to look at the landscape and show them, but all they could see was white, white and more white.
"The rugged and unpredictable terrain combined with extreme weather conditions has made our task here extremely difficult.
And to top it all of, we have found that Tertius' proximity to the planet's longest tectonic plate, has made the place quite prone to be hit by earthquakes.
Still, a large force of both Civilians, Marines and Guardsmen have been moved to the site as an excavation team in search of 'Underbrunner', the underground well that should lead us to 'The Glittering Path' and the way into the Fort of the Snow Leopard. Though the forces under my own and Morg's Command have performed admirably so far, searching through the ruins and snowy wasteland for clues as to the entrance, I'm afraid we still haven't located it.
We have located seven places we feel have a good chance of revealing results, and we have started digging in all these locations, but progress is slow and so far we have no positive results to report in. - My apologies Commander!" Storm looked almost ashamed.

"No need to put yourself down General!", Bannister replied in a voice that seemed both commanding and compassionate at the same time.
"You are doing your best and considering your work conditions, I am amazed you have located seven potential target areas already.
- Is there anything you need down there to make thing go speedier?".
Storm seemed to think about it for a second, then she shrugged. "Better weather would be nice!".
"Im afraid that is out of my hands", Bannister replied sadly.

"There is one more thing I need to report Commander", Storm said hesitantly.
"Yesterday, an assassination attempt was made upon Veteran Brother Morg and Myself...", she finished and an inaudible gasp went through the gathering of Imperial Commanders.
"It was a powerful amateur bomb", she continued. "We are analyzing it now, but as of yet we have no idea who or what may be behind it".
"But we will find out!", Brother Morg said with conviction, stepping into the camera's view.
"You should know sir, that that Critical Systems Failure you experienced before, may very well have been n...". The image sputtered as if it had been distorted by extreme weather conditions, then it disappeared entirely.

+ + + +

The Commanders of the Imperial Crusade had taken a short break after their contact with General Storm, as they unsuccessfully tried to reestablish contact.
At first it had been suspected that an attack may have been the cause of the communications loss, but after heat signature satellite readings of the area had been carried out, it had been concluded that the culprit had been the weather and not some enemy assault.

Now Brother-Captain Melxis of the Iron Bears was concluding his summary on his own and Space Wolf Lord, Hakon Greymane's forces patrols into the snowy wastelands of Nestir V, as well as their training routines for themselves. - Seems the Marine forces had been practicing quite a bit of cold weather warfare.
"The Legio and Nestir V Militia has had training as well", Xavier Crussis interjected when Melxis had concluded his report.
"We have ensured that the Militia has been better equipped and that a Planetary Defense Force has been reestablished", he proudly proclaimed.
"As per your orders we have also located the next in line Planetary Governor in Secundus. - She and her cabinet have begun preparations to take over Civilian Command as soon as the planet-wide Martial Law is lifted, and already they are prepared to lessen our burden with civil matters".

"Excellent! Thank you both!", Bannister said and then turned to the Legio's Codicer Korvac.
"How goes the search for the enemy then, Librarian?", Bannister asked the former Blood Raven.
"Well", Korvac began. - "Knowing your Chapter's dislike of the use of psychers, I put it upon myself, Justicar Borroleth and Chaplain Sigrdrifa, to put together a psychic circle that I had begin searching for the enemy right after they disappeared.
Unfortunately this yielded no results and some of our psychers went insane in the process. - After the seventh psycher was driven mad, even with Grey Knight protection, I rescinded the order to actively search with psychics and instead set two Astropaths and two Navigators on the job of listening for disturbances. - So far they have neither seen, nor heard any such events".

Bannister seemed irritated at the fact that Korvac had gone over his head, yet he also knew that the psychic search had been a necessary move and he was only to glad that Korvac had shown an initiative that kept himself out of dabbling directly with active psychers, so he didn't press the issue.

"As already mentioned", Korvac continued. "We have had some underground patrols, but most of the patrols on the ground have been made in overground areas we felt were possible enemy environments.
Patrols have been made on foot, in Rhinos, Mammoths and on Snow Scooter's.
As you have already heard, we have found both Lord Greymane's Space Wolves, and Melxis' Iron Bears, as well as your own Guardian Angels Scouts in their white uniforms quite handy for these kinds of missions".
Lord Greymane and Melxis both nodded in thanks for the approving statement; as did 'Umbra Proeliator' ,the Chief of Special Operations for Bannister's own 8th Company. Korvac continued on regardless.

"But while we have located a few caves and tunnels that may be used as exits from "The Eternal Night" of the Underworld, as well as a few interesting examples of the Planet's indigenous species, we have alas not yet had any sign of the enemy.
It is worthy of mention though, that We did loose thirty five Guardsmen a while back, as well as a few Guardian Angels Scouts.
They were searching a suspicious area in Sector 51 and had gone into an underground patrol when we simply lost them.
This is not unusual due to signal loss, but when the team had failed to report in after 24 hours, we sent a Search and Rescue Party.
The SAR team reported that the cave entrance the earlier team had gone into, had collapsed, seemingly due to an avalanche.
Then, seven days later, the remains of the team was found mangled, outside a huge natural predator's cave in Sector 220.
The remains of all the humans of the mission, though horribly mutilated, were found. - As to the scouts however, only three of the Teams five scouts were recovered.
The bodies had clearly been the chewing dolls of the ice cave's predator inhabitant, and it is possible the avalanche forced the team to search for another way out, but I still find it suspicious. - It may have been a result of enemy activity, so we destroyed the predator we found and sent in search teams, but the area between Sector 51 and Sector 220 is far to large to search efficiently, so I'm afraid we found nothing.

In addition to this", Korvac continued. "As you ordered, satellites and ships have been searching the surface with both normal and thermal imaging every day.
close to a hundred aircraft have been flying recon and patrol missions over high-profile targets, and just yesterday, one such recon flight mission reported in movement.
Analysis indicates that an Underground landtrain is on the move, heading for Hive Secundus at between two and three hundred kilometers per hour.
Satellites have been put into the area and the Scion is currently hovering over it.
At the latest report yesterday, the landtrain was still 25400 kilometers out. At its current speed and heading it should now be approximately 23000 kilometers out.
- This is positive enemy contact sir! - What now?"

+ + + +

Close to six hours had passed since Imperial High Command had had their last meeting, and the time had been well spent to gather more data, analyze potential enemy motivations, moves, counter moves and to lay a plan. - Now they were gathered once more and Bannister was presenting both their finds, and their plan in the Scion's Briefing room.

"It has been established", he began, "that the landtrain indeed still is moving and that shutting down the electrical grid to the tunnels has had no effect on it, so it is moving under its own power supply. - Exactly what this is we do not know, but it is safe to say it is either some sort of Warp energy or Promethium. - We are currently leaning towards that the train has been refitted with Promethium engines, something that means lots and lots of smoke.

Furthermore, we believe the train is either carrying an army ready to invade Secundus, or quite possibly some sort of weapon of mass destruction.
As we believe the probability of an all out invasion of one of our best defended assets is unlikely with the manpower Adramalech now possesses, our Lexicani, Codicers and Epistolaries all agree that the most likely scenario is that the train has been rigged as a bomb.
What purpose this may serve exactly is still unknown, but what is clear is that if it is allowed to reach Secundus it will be devastating to the city and the people there.

As a precaution we have therefor begun moving the People of Secundus into the regions that are most likely to withstand a possible explosion, and we have also begun evacuation procedures that will be enacted if we see it fit to do so.
A strike team is preparing to go on standby at Secundus and in orbit. Their job will be to enter and defend Secundus should this prove to be an invasion.
We are also redirecting more ships into the area, and the Bloodied Scion is prepared to fire a concentrated lance beam at the tunnels if it is needed to stop the train or trains before they get anywhere near the city.

Because the tunnels are necessary for the operation of Nestir V in peace-time, and due to the fact that the technology that will be damaged and lost if we need to destroy the tunnels, is so difficult to replace however; we will try to stop the train in another way first".

Everyone gathered sat up more straight once a map of the area outside Secundus appeared on an overhead behind Bannister. - Their interest was obviously peaked.

"This", Bannister said, and a green marker outlined an area in the snow before the image zoomed in for more detail. "is an entrance to one of the tunnels' many service shafts and emergency exits.
It is hard to reach and partially frozen over, so the Scion will fire a low yield, tempered plasma torpedo into the air above it. - This will temporarily melt the snow and ice in the area. following this, a Strike team of my choosing will teleport into the area and enter the service shaft.
Following it down, the team should then be able to enter the train tunnels from above and jump onto the moving train.
This is a highly risky maneuver, but we believe it is possible for a Marine.
Once on the train, the team will move onboard, report back what they see and neutralize any enemy threat. From here they are to take control of the train, disarm any weapons of mass destruction they find and halt the train.

Because the train is such a small target traveling so fast in an unpredictable environment, it will be almost impossible for us to teleport any more forces onto or off the train, so our team will be alone against what quite possibly will prove to be heavy resistance.

This is a high risk mission and should the insertion team fail, the Scion may be forced to fire upon the tunnels ahead of the train to stop it, meaning there will be no way out except via success. - Though I know I have to order you to fight all the time, I don't feel like putting any of you into such a peril as this, though I will if I have to", Bannister said, looking everyone in the face.
"I would do this myself if I could, but I cant, so, I'm looking for a volunteer. - Will anyone step forward?"

A volunteer you search for CMG? Let's see who the lucky marine is...

Another excellent piece, really helped me to get the current situation on Nestir V so I know how we stand. Well done indeed and your way of creatijng Jack Harkness was also very interesting indeed. yes.gif I imagine Russell T. Davies was thinking along the same lines as yourself.

Just came back and I get to read this. Nice work. I appreciate You write some stuff from the chaos perspective even if it is what my old friend the dull apostle is thinking.

Looking forward to my TWAM battle. I cant remeber the insructions I sent to savage so long ago, so even waht apoc says will be a surprise to me.

Your going down cambrius. If Apoc dies he gonna haunt you. .. .. and drive you to drink. .. .. .. alot.

Glad to see you like it Yogi!

Im looking forward to the TWAM too. - It will be interesting!

As for Chaos stories, well I do try to write some for Chaos.
In fact I try to make it somewhat 50/50, but it is harder to use your characters, than the Imperials, in the write ups, simply due to the fact that the Imperials are a closer knit crew than Chaos.
Every Chaos Character seems to have his own agenda that is different from Adramalech's (or from each-other's for that matter), and so the stories for Chaos are more focused on Adramalech and his struggle to keep his crew together while he pushes to keep his own quest going.
There will be more material for Chaos in the future too off course. - In fact I have an entire segment planned just for you guys.

Alright chaps, let's get this show on the road, or train on the move, as it would seem.
Hopefully will be more involved and very mature this round.
Maybe even make a new model....

Edit: A quick question...
Do us marine players use rules from 4th edition codex or 5th?
seeing as we got a new one between rounds
