Adding onto my Iron Warriors for this year tourny session

Hi everone

 

Another topic, though this time it is a add on to a current & favrout army of mine. The Iron Warriors!!!!!!!!!!1

 

Right now is the tournament session for me, with new codex, etc... out. It time for my old faithful Iron Warriors to go on the warpath with this year tournament session. This also mean update a few models & adding new conversion, also this year I am chose to make a display board for my overall army.

 

My tournament being

- 12th Sept Counter Attack - Held in Edinbrugh by the ELG wargaming club 1750pts, one day with three games

- 17th & 18th Oct UKGT heat 1 - Nottingham, Warhammer World 1500pts, two days with six games

- 31st Oct Rapid Fire - Stirling wargaming club (which I attend) one day with three games

- Nov Rompa Stompa - ELG wargaming club tournament 1500pts, one day with three games

 

Current I am working on my display board, which is somthing I was meaning to make last year. Just it would look cool & a few of these event there extra pts :P

Right now I am useing the Chaos Skull temple which GW has just release. It is really cool :)

For the rest, I am still in the planning stage, but since my IW foe (background wise) is Black Templars (Imperial Fist are to bright, take focuse away). I'm aim to add Black Templar trophies, having them through spikes, for anyone who see my Iron Warriors, I have thing like a Crusifed Templar upon one of my three Rhinos.

Just new conversion idea in mind with some new trophies. Also I have a lot plasticard work to do from the extra armour, to the hatch where I will be useing a IW icon along with a Mark of chaos undivided, just need to dsign a cool idea & then get it all onto plasticard.

 

Other thing will be

- New champion for my Squad No2

- New Heavy Bolter for Squad No2

- New Trooper for Squad No3

- Few new Termies

- 3x New Obliterators, two of them to help make my 1500pts GT army list into 1750pts for two of the four tournament I am attending this year

- New unit of 5 Chaos Space Marines, again to help bring my army from 1500pts to 1750pts. Though with these I am thinking of making this unit into a detachment of Black Legion just to add a little somthing diffrent, also just because I do not wish to weaste GW Ink (no longer sold) or part on a unit I am only useing for a few event & nothing else. While being Black Legion, have a shot of being a army in the future :)

 

So right now the focuse is to make my Display board, spending tomorrow planning how it will all look when the dispolay board is finish :D

Hi,

That temple of skulls terrain looks pretty cool,wonder why i haven't come across it before.It makes a great display piece.

 

Your iron warriors are pretty cool,in particular the DP,the silver armour and th3e Green runes on the sword look great.

Also I'd watch out with the spike on the piller (sp). That'll make sure no touriest in the GW I use to work that, pick up my models while in game.

Thanks, the sword was done by Dark Angels green, snot green, scorp green, green wash, once matt varnish added some gloss varnish to the sword to 1: protected it as it was getting chip to badly in the case & 2: give it a bit of a nicer look in term of chaos/daemonic.

 

Metal for those woundering: Tank brush for dry brush Boltgun metal, brown ink (no longer in GW store), cheastnut ink (again no longer sold by GW), re-dry brush w/Tank Brush Bolt gun metal. Then Mithrial Silver to help out/when light hit off them give a alright effect.

Sounds good, IP. Haven't talked to you in a while, but it is nice to see you still plugging away with your IW's.

 

Just been busy with a lot stuff, try PM you as soon as. With the Iron Warriors, one saying we had when I was part timer for Games Workshop was "It never ending" as in you collect as much as you want. As said this is my 5th version of the IW, been 7 year collecting & each time changing. Just with them being my main army.

 

Going to work on the display tray/base today going to try place the temple of skull to see how it would best look. Then start glue it down & try get some other bit made like Black Templars through spikes.

I got one today - I was blown away by how big it is, and by the details on it - it truly is an impressive terrain piece! ;)

Also one of the new counter for the d3+2counter mission. Just I have two Icon of Khorne in these counter, though be best having one of each chaos god as well as undivided.

Curious but what is the source of the plastic rods used to impale the Black Templars? The plastic has the same grey look as usual Games Workshop plastics but I'm not sure where you got them. Gonna steal your idea of objective markers and the rods are all I need.

I still have a lot of work to do to the model before he ready for painting. Mainly the Trophies racks as I'm aim to buy a box of Chaos Termies this Sat (money permit) & I am also getting a few spare helmet from friends. As though the current chaos trophies GW supply are cool...just Chaos do not only battle human/Imperial.

 

My IW have been around for seven & a half year now, we fought it all. Ever sort of big tournament army, ever sub race (Alatoic, Ultwe for exsample). I want this shown on my army. As my other trooper have trophies from other race all of which are base upon pass & present oppents from GW own armies to people own made up once.

 

Also I am still trying to debate for this 5 man unit for the 1750pts tournaments if I want them to be base upon Black Legion or Alpha Legion

 

Black Legion

With Black Legion, background wise they can be sent by Abaddon on a mission that only them & my Warsmith know. Or because of incadent when Iron Warriors fought Black Legion (battle report when codex 3.5 came out which was base upon Honsou return with gene seed & Black Legion trying to stop a secret way into the eye of terror) Abaddon sent them.

Model wise, be aim to base them upon the art work from codex 3.5, also haveing fought Christain Bryne Black Legion that UKGT heat 1 06 they are really cool & some idea would be from them in term of all the free hand painting he has done to them.

Also Black Legion was sort of my first offical army when I started the hobby, also where my converting skill started 12 year & a half year ago

 

Alpha Legion

With Alpha Legion, it sort of very rare to see them (or that least for me anyway). Also it has been a army I have been intrested for a while (but Iron Warriors alway main force :lol: ). Background wise, simple be Alpha Legion also work in the same area, they want into a Imperial Fort/strong hold. IW need someone to go in once the walls are blow up & take down some important....stuff!!!

Model wise, just be useing John Blanch art from the 2nd Ed codex chaos as well as White Dward 202.

Also painting wise I would like the right shoulder pad to be Black, paint a red chaos Mark of Undivided but in the background have a scale patteron painted in the background as it where.

 

Well see, right now thinking Alpha Legion because I never had any models & would be intresting painting wise. Well see I have until Aug before I have to chose because this 5 man unit going to be a "paint before the tournament" as per the un-writen law of the tournament scene.

The pose of the terminator is nice and simple. Also the trophy rack idea is great and add some extra character to the model. My only concern is the direction he is facing. He is pointing his bolter but he is looking down at his victim. IMHO look cooler if the head was facing in the same direction as the bolter, especially since I doubt an Iron Warrior would care who he has killed when there are others to wipe out. And I say go with the Alpha Legion since it is what your more interested in and it will give you something completely different to paint...already painted black with the Templars as objectives.

Yep & it a little mocking toward my oppent :wub: Like wise with my Icons I have some message in chaos ruin (one them is "that what she said" other one being "so your face" in chaos ruins )

 

My Warsmith (Daemon Prince) current trophies are: Farseer helmet (GW Edinbrugh staff memeber who I fought that 40k Radio), Ork warboss (wargaming club), Ork of some type (same person), Ultramarine helmet (GW Falkirk staffer who a big Ultramarine fan)

Sadly it the way the helmet fit into the armour. But then again though he looking down, he could be look up...if you know what I mean?? when you read a book, someone try to get your attsion, you look over the book sort of like :) (eye up)

True :D Also Stelth would fit a seige army. Alpha Legion use what ever mean to get there own object, while IW just want to blow stuff up :D

Nope, never going to add Chevrons. It mainly down to the yellow if anything, too bright & I am not a fan of painting bright colours. Sort of why the Dead Marine are base upon Black Templars, still son of Dorn, but not to bright/take the focuse away from the models them self.

 

For my IW the main colours are mainly Silver, Black & red.

 

On another note, Termies are finish & varnish. Pretty happy with how they have turn out in term of painting & conversion. Lot people in store like them which is good. Due to the home being tide I have no room to take any photos, if I am luck I might take some tomorrow but Wed looking most likey (never knew how much space I had after clean my bit box out of my room!!!)

 

Also pick up a box of Chaos Marines & Imperial Marines. Chaos to replace a few normal troops, Imperial for Trophies & to add onto my Display tray as I want this started in term of painting come Fri!

 

Also been debate with friends about the ELG Tournament & Rapid Fire tournament. Both are 1750pts, so the bulk be my 1500pts UKGT list, while for 250pts I am looking that

 

- 2x Obliterators, unit of 5 Chaos Marine theme on Alpha Legion.

 

Or most like now going to go for

 

- Unit of Chosen theme on Alpha Legion.

 

It more to do with not wanting to weaste old GW Inks & Bits to be honsty on units that I am useing for one off, as said above Alpha Legion have a change of being a army in the future, also add that bit more to my army as it where.

So thinking of Chosen since I can make a 250pts unit (10 of them w/3-4 Plasma...or 9 w/3 Plasma & a pair of Lighting claws)

 

So yes Wed (or tomorrow if I am lucky) some new photos taken in the afternoon. Might have a few new Trooper made by then tomorrow depend how the home clean out gose.

- Marine Helmet (ether be more Ultramarines, or try another White Marine helmet to be Raven Guards (oppent from UKGT 2005))

- Eldar Guardien Head (ether be Ultwe or Alatoic)

- Eldar Dire Avenger head which will be base upon my friend Andy jet bike eldar

Also as per usely, some plasticard on top of the Rhino hatch. On the top part (above the IW icon) I'll be doing a free hand chaos star

So all I got left to do from now until Sept the 11th before the tournament in Edinbrugh is

 

- Heavy Bolter Trooper Unit No2

- Champion Unit No2

- Icon trooper Unit No2

- Possible a new Radio trooper for Unit No2 (feel it look cool having radio trooper in the army/units)

- Possible another new Terminator

- New 40mm base obeject, going into more detail with the banner useing plasticard.

 

Then near the Edinbrugh tournament, the Alpha Legion allies. I'm now going for a unit of 9 these as Chosen (more to paint & convert, also it Alpah Legion Inflty there thing) with 3x Plasma gun, Lighting Claw champion & Icon of Glory.

Going to try & test paint a Alpha Legion trooper on Mon to get some idea on how I want the unit to look.

No idea on conversion yet, but having a good look that Bloodquest comic (recommend to any chaos player to get or Blood Angels) & John Blanch art work from the 2nd Ed codex Chaos

Plan

- Tomorrow I'm going to make the Radio & Icon IW Chaos Marines along with the 40mm base Counter/object & aim to paint them on Mon, along with test Alpha Legion model.

- Tue aim to get the Rhino painted

 

Then some point during next week start work on my display base on the painting front, then Fri buy my UKGT ticket :jaw:
