Making Easy Gorgets

Recommended Posts

A couple of people have asked me for a tutorial on how i did the raised gorgets on my space wolves., well heres a step by step guide.

you'll need 4 things.

1- wire, i use florists wire, but whatever you use for pinning should be fine, providing its flexible enough to be bent

2- a pin vice (for one of the ways anyway)

3- green stuff, filling in the gaps, nothing more

4- super glue... for gluing things super well

Version 1;

this one is the quickest and simplest way, it can be shown in 1 picture its that simple.

just bend a small piece of wire to fit the curve of the exisisting neck of the armour (i use an old paintbrush to get the curve) and then glue it in place, simple as.

if you want the gorget raised a bit more simply add a second piece of wire like this,

this is how it looks with a head in place.

Version 2;

Bit more to this one, but not much. Its a slightly wider goret which can fit a helmet inside depends on what your after.

take the torso you want and drill into the middle of the neck, then isert a small piece of wire. try and make sure the wire is at a light angle like this and trim the wire to just below the height you want the gorget to be.

once thats in place, you need to bend a piece of wire to sit atop it, makng a T shape.

then just fill the gaps using green stuff. take your time and don't rush with this stage, its easier to lay a thin piece over where you need it to go and wait for it t cure before bulking it up.

i will try and post some pics of the greenstuff stages when i get a chance but in the meantime this is perfectly suficient.

the decond method is slghtly more time consuming but you can customise the height and depth more than you can with the first, but boh look eaqually nice when painted.

this is great...a suggestion would also be to possibly extend the "T-shape" to the back of hte head and bending the wire to create a librarian hood...then filling in all the gaps with GS and then bulking up the hood and gorget. Just a thought though... :huh:
