I manged to catch the guy literally as he was just unpacking all the new boxes. So now I have all the awesome new plastic sprues to play with and come up with some creative new Space Wolves to play with. Ironically enough, the sprues are SO good and filled with so many kick ass bits that it pretty much covered all of my previous conversion ideas for my troops. Which, don't get me wrong, is awesome! However not much of a modeling challenge for me. Which is why I've decided to do something fun and different for my first new space wolf model. P.S. if you want to argue "there's no such thing as female space wolves" please do it elsewhere, I'm not interested in that old argument. This is about sharing a model I built for fun. I think a WP would recognize valour whereever found. I don't know about the genetics of it if the geneseed is compatible with women but I think it's cool. What role will she have in your army? Wolf Baroness? Got any fluff for her yet? Post some more pics when she gets painted up. Give us a battle report with her kicking butt. If there's anywhere that would produce a woman with a base S and T of 4 it would be Fenris (or maybe Catachan...oh wait, they DO get S4 T4 on some guys...) so hey, just say she's a Shield Maiden, which iirc DO get powered armour, but aren't Space Marines per se. :) Nice model! Personally rolewise I would just make her a Grey Hunter rather than anything too fancy, or maybe a BC. That's just my take though. They tend to have a few nice heads in there, and even the male heads will make good females on a marine body. I plan to use paint to cover up the ears since I find scraping them off doesn't always look as good. As for the why? Personally I've always been of the opinion that everyone should enjoy the hobby however they want, especially when it comes to building your army. So naturally the idea that people aren't allowed to have female marines in their army, not to mention the whole argument over it, is just silly to me. For my part what I enjoy most about this hobby ( other then being able to hang out with fun people playing with toy soldiers and blowing stuff up ) has always been the actual modeling of my army, building cool and interesting characters to fight with. For me making female space wolves is all about creating cool characters that you can't get anywhere else and the fun modeling challenge that represents. Of course, there's a bit more to it. When I was first starting to get into 40K, before I even settled on a Space Wolf army, I happen to notice that all of the space marine figures were male. So being the novice that I was I asked innocently enough, if there were any female marine figures. And by that I meant actual figures I could purchase and put together. Sure enough, no such thing, which is what prompted me to make one just for fun. It wasn't a particularly good one either. That probably would have been the end of it except for weeks later, after I was playing a full on Space Wolf army, and someone happen to notice that female marine model I made. The man went ballistic on how female marines were impossible, and more to the point, that I flat out could not have any women in a Space Wolf army. Obviously I didn't much appreciate someone telling me I had to play the game his way. So in true Space Wolf fashion, that only encouraged to make even more female wolves. My Space Wolves have included women in the mix ever since then. In my mind, every time someone says I can't do it, it just gives me more reason to keep going. And on that note, here's a new Grey Hunter I just finished making last night. As to the fluff side of things, in case anyone's interested, here's my take on it. As it says in the Codex, Fenris is a Death World, only the strongest warriors can even survive. As a result a single Fenrisian warrior is equal to several humans of almost any other Imperial world. So it's not impossible for there to be a rare Fenrisian woman who could defeat a typical Fenrisian warrior. Now it's true Fenrisian males will generally be better suited to becoming Space Wolves. However I've always felt that Space Wolf traditions would be focused more on who is the best warrior rather then that warrior's gender. If a female warrior can prove herself then she can become a Space Wolf. That also means such a warrior would still have to pass the Test of Morkai. No Wolf Priest is going to go easy on any of the initiates, especially not a woman. If she survives the process of initiation then she deserves to be a Space Wolf, that's all there is to it. As for the biology behind it, that all pretty much goes out the door. One can come with with as much biological evidence to support the possibility of female marines as they can to disprove it. In the end it's all pseudo-science anyway. And more importantly, Space Wolves wouldn't really care one bit about any of it. For them it's more about the ritual then the science. As part of the ritual they would implant the gene seeds into the female aspirants just like they would anyone else. Again if they survive, then a new space wolf joins the Fang. If they don't, well the Iron Priests can always make use of more servitors. It happens often enough with male aspirants, after all. Even so female Space Wolves would remain rare. This is just generally how it would work out, since the majority of initiates will still be male. ( In fact these are the only two female wolves out of the dozen or so Space Wolves I've made from the new sprues, ... so far anyway. :D ) Also most of these female Space Wolves would just use the same power armor as their male counterparts so many of them probably won't look too different then their brothers. Only particularly skilled and exceptional Grey Hunters and Wolf Guard females would be rewarded with a customized set of armor like this. Female Blood Claws would be too young and unproven to waste the talents of an artificer on. ( This lets me get away with not having to put breasts on every single female wolf in my army. However, mammaries are soft and flexible enough to be squished into regular armor. I have the same issue with the SoB models and artwork. My only problem is that they're... well, just marines with boobs when they have their helmet on, and honestly, that armor is bulky enough to hold some boobs inside, considering well built women, even if chesty, are smaller around in the chest than well built men.... so, that seems odd, but the idea of Wolf Sisters joining the battle... awesome. Have you considered using some Sisters of battle, and shaving off some of the Inquisitorial and Witch hunter bits and replacing them with wolfy bits? Sounds like a SUPER kick-arse rune priest or wolf priest escort unit... especially with combi-flamers... ooh the burning of the xenos... very exciting. Or, why not just take some Sisters of battle, and Wolf them out as allies? Might be fun.... but I'd work more on changing the model up... marines with two bumps on their breast plate look a bit odd... and tassles on helmets just doesn't quite cut it, especially with wolves. I have a couple of the old "lady of the lake" models from the Britonnia(sp) army from back in the day. With the helmet on they do just kind of look odd or like they have been caught something from Nurgle and it is growing on their chest. I also don't think the armor would need to be modified just look at most professional female athletes and you don't see hardly any that are large chested. Although I will say these are more in proportion than many I have seen. Some female wolf scouts would be interesting to see and they would fit right in the elites section. In my world the smartest thing those females could do was to do an breast reduction, and to be honest, that power armor can be quite spacious without bucket modification.
