Stirling Wargamer Rapid Fire tournament 2009

Insane Psychopath Stirling Wargaming club Rapid Fire, the attack of the dice!!!

 

Hi everone

 

Well once more another tournament has been & gone being Stirling wargaming club Rapid Fire.

 

Now before the report for those who not seen/read the other, I have my usely simple request

 

Do NOT post anything negative about the list I or other have use, I don't care as for me as long as it by the rule/codex I will battle or use it. Like wise anyone who dose not like the tournament scene then this topic might not be for you.

So please don't post negative. We all have our own area of the hobby we enjoy, please respect that. I go to tournament to have a laught, have some games, met new & old friend alike, the main thing is having a laught & fun day that the tournament. These report are to show other that tournament are a good laught & not the bad terrible side of thing as a lot people make them out to be (98% not even attended I'd bet).

But I attend these for a laught, to play armies I not fought in agies, to met new people, check out some brilliant armies.

 

Now to the report.

 

Stirling wargaming run a 40k tournament once ever year, which I been attending to since 2006 & it is also thank to this event that I been attending the Stirling club since 2007.

 

This year the tournament was 1750pts (last year being 1500, 1750, 2000) & the brand new Space Wolves codex was allowed....but suprisely there was not one single Space Wolves there (mine still being WIP & right now is my IW time for the tournaments :lol: )

 

As to the army list, it the same one I took to ELG Counter attack (to be honsty I rarely use Warp time it only there because of pts)

So onto the report

 

Well like all go tournaments that are local, there nothing better than wake up nice & earily of a Sat moring :D & it dose not help that the clock change last week, so getting to Stirling wargaming club half asleep & picking up a good breakfast (roll & square sasauge :D ) it was time to sign in & get my army out for the battles to come.

 

Round 1: Back to the Warp part two

Oppent: Glenn

Army: Chaos Daemons

List: As per usely sorry, I'm trying to rememeber what in the list so some thing can be wrong. Specil Ch Greater Daemon of Nurgle, Skulltaker on Chariot, unit of Bloodletter that where nine to ten strong, small unit of 5 Horrors, unit of 6/7 Horrors with Changling, Blue Scrib (Horror HQ on Dice of Tzeentch), Nurgle Daemon Prince, Soul Grinder, Feind of Slannesh, 2 Blood Crusher, unit of Screamers of Tzeentch, Unit of Flamer of Tzeentch, Flesh Hound of Khorne

Mission: Dawn of War, d3+2 counter (for the tournament we all have five counter)

Out come: Win

 

Well after sign in & handing my list. It was time to find out what table I would be starting the day of this great tournament, being Table No6. Upon unpack my army, dice, etc... I found out I would be battle Glenn who travel all the way from Aberdeen (two hour drive from Stirling) with a few friends of his to attend this tournament.

 

As to the game I won for table side & chose to let Glenn go first being that his Army all deep strike. Glenn got the Wave of his army he wanted (all the close combat stuff basicly, while all his shooty unit where in wave 2).

 

Right from the start the game saw bitter close combat as my Chaos Marines who set up as far forward as dawn of war allowed charge into a unit of Bezerker. While else where though out the game saw a epic single combat between Skuller taker & my might Daemon Prince, with my Daemon Prince walking out with out a scratch & the skull of Skulltaker.

 

While else where the Nurgle element of Glenn army where wind of chaos my Chaos Space Marines units, the toxic vomit melting my Chaos Marine armour. My own Obliterators return this by twin linked plasma gun the Nurgle Greater daemon specil ch & killing him, sending him back to the warp from where he came from.

 

While the Bloodletter from turn 3-5, after slaughtering the squad I sent in on turn 1, they seem to be a slap match between these might warriors of Khorne vs my might IW in terminators armour. Basicly I assaulted the remain of the Blood Letter unit & it was the case from turn three to five I belive, we ether failed to hit, or wound or any wound that did make it through, it seem the chaos gods truly favour both of us. However if we took a loss in combat, the other oppent unit took a loss, each time resulting in a draw in combat

 

While later in the Game, after my Daemon Prince slay a might champion of Khorn (Skull taker), he knew what it felt like to be one of the chose of Khorne & how fun it is in close combat. This resulted in him take down the small horror unit holding a object & then the following turn taken down the Blue Scrib specil ch in combat. There was no end to his slaughter.

 

In the end my Daemon Prince was carven through Gleen Horror & contest a object, while else where I had ONE Chaos Space Marine in a Rhino hold another. While the other three object, we ether did not have the troop chose or they where contested or a few inch out.

So in the end I won vs Daemon.

 

Overall the game was great fun & I really do like the Daemon army both useing them myself & battle against them. Glenn army was really nice & I like how he rep all four chaos gods. His models as well where brillaint (I had a hard time chose between his & Donzo the GW manger of our local store own Daemon Force that won last year painted award). It has inspired me to try get some update on my own daemon force & to try out a few thing.

SO with game 1 finish, it was time to have a look around that the other armies at attend the event. Also to check out the painting & get idea for my own future projects. Then as soon as we where told food was ready it was like a big tide of people rushing for some nice pizzia from a local chippy shop.

So with having eat some nice pizza & having voted for the armies we like that the event. It was time to pack our armies & get ready for Round 2.

 

Round 2: Battle of the dice

Oppent: MrMiller

Army: Eldar

List: Elrad (sp?, the Ultwe farseer specil ch?), Yriel, 2x unit of Dire Avnger in tank, Fire Prisem, 2x Falcon, unit of Fire Dragons, Seer Counsil.... I think that it (sure Miller will tell me on Mon that my local Gw if I miss out anything)

Mission: Cleanse set up (table quater), one object each (home & away mission from the rule book?)

Out come Loss.

 

Well after launch & packing the army away. It was time to check out who our next oppent would be & what table we where on.......me after pack up.... I found I was on the same table that I was already on for round 1, being table 6. Make my life easy to be honsty :P

 

As to the game, as said there Miller gose to my local GW, in the two year I been going there I never really had a game vs him due to real life or oppent already arrange. Also from the games I watch in the pass I knew it would be..... rubbish, he cheated, he use rig dice, he bully me :P In honsty it a good game & none of the rubbish, etc is true in anyway, I'm just wind up Miller.

 

It was good to battle Eldar once more as it feel like agies, even though I fought them that ELG Counter attack a month & a bit ago.

 

Overall the game was..... it was great with out a shadow of a dout, but it was also a very thin line in term of dice going our way. It really did rely upon thing going your way & you had to second guess & make sure there was no mistake. The game overall went back & forward from good dice rolls to bad dice rolls.

Exsample being on turn 4 I deep strike a unit of Terminators with combi plasma to take on Miller Fire Prsiem, I failed, I over heated a Terminators & he failed his Armour save.... because they took 25% loss (four Terminators, so lossing one). It resulted in a Ld test, me fail, that unit running off escorted off the table by a few diffrent units for exsample a Falcon if it could not shot that turn, or Yriel if he was not close enough for assault.

 

Overall like I said dice & luck was going back & forward. Eldar Transport being immobile left, right & center. To my Daemon Prince epic failed his 3+ armour saves. While there was also bitter close combat when the Seer Counsil & Yriel assaulted my unit of Terminators & like round 1 with the Bloodletter, each wound case was save, or we would fail to hit/wound.

As is the way of the chaos gods, they can favour you (with my saves) but can be very fickle (hit/wound).

 

In the end Miller won as he mange to take on my whole left flank with a good combi of fire power & psychic power with the like of Doom, as well as useing Yriel to take on the remain of any units near by, he is a beast in combat. While on my right flank, me & miller where doing everthing in our power to get his Object from having enough unit to contest it, to bitter close combat between the remain of my only troop chose left being Chaos Marines vs his Dire Avnger which only saw a draw in combat :(

 

I think if the game went onto turn 6, I might have had it turn into a draw in my favour. As what ever Obliterators I had left where aim right that Miller Eldar tanks which where contesting the object I was near with the chaos marines vs the dire avnger. However the same time Yriel & a unit of Fire Dragons where pretty close, to close for my liking, even if I am in a 4+ cover save....not going to help when Yriel about.

 

While the might Iron Warriors terminators where still running away :(

 

Before I forget I stole first turn :D After all I wanted to try suffer one less turn of the Eldar fire power & get into combat as soon as possible ;)

So this has been my Iron Warriors first loss in Rapid Fire. 2006 & 2008 saw my IW get a draw & two win each year.... Miller broke my record :( but overall was a great game & enjoy it, like I said the dice where on a thin line for this game to work that the right moment

 

So after round 2, time to sort out our armies & have a few min to relax before the finial round.

Round 3: Un-stoppible Green wave

Oppent: Ross

Army Orks

List: Warboss in mega armour & attack squig, Mek with Force Feild, three units of 20 Ork boyz with Power Claw Ork Nob, 3 Mega armour in trukk, 2x Ork Nobz unit in Trukks, 2 Dreadnought, unit of three Killer kans, unit of Grots (unsure the number). I think that it

Mission: Pitch Battle Dawn of War

A third time I fought orks in a tournament :P (GT 2007, round 1 & 6 useing the 3rd Ed rules). On top of this...... I not fought a single Space Marine player :D (usely ever tournament I alway battle ONE Space Marine army min).

 

The game overall was really great, lot of close combat.

 

To start off with, Ross won the dice roll for setting up & chose to go first. After his set up I done my usely tactic of flank attack which help out more vs Orks so the weight of number dose not go against you, taken on a small % of his army that a time.

 

To start off with, Ross turn 1 saw his Orks moving with great speed looking to kick in my Chaos Marines. While my own turn saw my Obliterators going Killer Kan & Dreadnought killing, I belive I only manger to get a handful of Killer kans as the Mek Force Field prove to be great.

 

Overall the game saw a lot of close combat with me sending it two unit of Chaos Marines & a unit of Terminators picking apart each Ork unit. While my Daemon Prince took a might toll of Orks before falling to his wounds, which a power claw will do that to you.

 

I mange to keep the weight of the Ork number that bay & each time mange to bring one unit that a time in, battle then in close combat useing the wight of my own number from unit in combat or those not able to make it Rapid Fire there Bolter & fire there specil weapon.

 

While else where the might Ork Warboss was attack my left flank taken on the might of my Obliterators. It was truly a epic battle with both Obliterators (what was alive) & Ork warboss knocking each other out. If finial reasulted in the Ork warboss walking out alive & into his trukk with one wound left, all my Obliterators being killed ;)

 

With time ticking down me & Ross could only play our turn 5 & no more, as we only had 15 min to play this. By Ross turn 5 the game was current in a draw, however when it came to my turn, I had 5 min left to play & had to kill a few thing quick. This result in a Terminators unit come on turn 5 (I failed though out turn 2-4, while the other Terminators unit I had was given support to my 10 man chaos marine unit vs the Ork hordes).

 

So time ticket my last unit of Terminators deep strike down near the last of the Killer kans & thankful one of my Icon of Glory where near by. As soon as they hit the ground my Terminators unloaded a hail of rapid fire combat Plasma which resulted in a immobile, because the Killer kan was part of a unit.... it ment the Killer Kan was killed. So one more kill point in my favour. With a few mere min to spare (somthing like two min's left before time was called), I had one more act before the game was over for the last round.

There where 20 orks boyz left & this resulted in me charging with the remain of all three Chaos Space Marine squads & a Chaos Terminators, I chose not to fire Bolt Pistol because it would have ment they would not be able to charge due to pick orks models that where in assault range.

So with this might last turn charge, it reasulted in the 20 Ork unit taken down to a mere four models, while in return the Orks try to take one my last Chaos Terminators in combat so they could get another kill point..... chaos gods favour me & I made all Inv save.

So Ork loss combat & failed there Ld even with boss pole.

 

All chaos marine unit rolled higher than the orks, over ran them & slaughter them. This resulted in 6 kill point to the Orks (Daemon Prince, Rhino, Oblits, Oblits, Oblits). While I had won by 8 Kill points (Mek, 20 Orks, 20 Orks, 20 Orks, Nobz unit, Mega armour, Grots, Killer Kans unit)

 

Another great game & I really enjoyed play the orks. Ross ork army give me a lot idea for my own future planned ork force & just a few rule that I never notice which make it even better.

 

Overall like I said it was a great game & I really enjoy just getting stuck in by close combat & basicly beat the ork up as apart from Bezerker...possible Wolves, there no better army/race to fight in combat than Orks as that there whole view.

Sadily I did not get time to take photos of those last few second. Like I said we had 15 mins to complete our turn 5, so there was not time to stop & we had to rush our movie which is a shame....but same time you got to try fit in the time limit.

 

Overall another great tournament that Stirling. Had three great games with mix fourtune. Overall my dice rolls where great, best I seen in agies for myself :( Lot of nice armies there.

 

So I came 8th overall with two win & one loss, not so good compaired to last year 4th place...but what can you do, you win some, you loss some, you draw some, it just a game end of the day, it not like life or death & main thing to enjoy & have a laught with the oppents. Turn out on round 1 I was the lowest scoring player with a win :P :(

 

Also if that was not good enough, I have also pick up the best painted army award after a year of my local GW manger mocking me (last year he won best painted for his daemon because of ONE vote, I had 7 votes, he had 8, the result where scatter about)

Also got GW water pot for painting, GW paint pallet & base kit which was bought with the money made from the tournament. Very happy with that.

 

So overall thank for my oppent, would happily give them a rematch. Enjoy today & very happy I got best painted army overall :(

Thanks, I use the Iron Warriors regardless of the codex, but try to keep strike to there background (eg: not chaos god mark beside undivided, no cult unit, no possessed) but with my own twist (I like mobilty warfare to much).

 

Also eight year as of the 17th Nov my Iron Warriors have been around, that move than half of my GW hobby life :) :cuss

 

So far 2009 saw the IW get 2nd place & two painting awards :cuss So thanks to those who voted for me that Stirling Rapid fire tournament today :cuss

I do have some questions on the list, though.

No, nothing about "You killed fluff! I hate you!", not from me :lol:

 

1) Why Combi-plas on the terms?

2) Why do you take ACs on your CSM squads?

3) How do you open AV 14 at long range reliably? Do 7 LCs usually cut it if you face, say 2 LRs?

S7, two shot when in rapid fire range. That eight shot from them when they hit the ground compaired to one shot from a melta. Like wise, even if I get a little out of Rapid Fire that least I can still get a shot off per guy.

 

You can find out more in my other tournament reports since last year.

 

2) Why do you take ACs on your CSM squads?

 

Why not ;)

 

It basicly what happen if your Rhino get immobile, what happen if your hold a object but to far to try wipe out that one last oppent model hold a object or in kill point making sure to get that last model. Other than that my IW are usely in combat.

 

3) How do you open AV 14 at long range reliably? Do 7 LCs usually cut it if you face, say 2 LRs?

 

Ignore them or use my GW Apoclypse dice. Or send in the Obliterators with there twin linked melta &/or power fist. But it is difficult to take on armour 14 in general, one of the reason my Space Wolves list will see two in my list.

As said in the GT/ELG report I do not wish to add to much to my IW current due to having limited GW old inks (Brown & cheatnut). I rather wait until the release of codex Legion before I add anything new to my IW beside the odd updated model near a tournament (I alway belive it never a tournament if your not painting in those small hour before the event/day before the event).

 

As for double Land Raider, that what my brand new Space Wolves are for with Logan leding them.
