I am starting a Blood Angels force. Of which I posted my first character earlier today. It is a Death Company Chaplin which can be view in from a link in my sig. I free handed his banner, and someone asked how. Not having WIP'd the figure... I did a second banner. And as I didn't have another banner available like the first, I used a BT banner, as I had plenty spare. So please excuse the BT icon on top.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00400.jpg

I started by under coating with Chaos Black. then I dry brushed the lifted area with Shadow gray, followed by Fortress Gray. I then did a very light wash with Badab Black (which I didn't on the original) because I rushed it a bit.

I then outlined the main features in Shadow Gray.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00402.jpg

After outlining the shapes, I painted the robes, border, cross and blood drops in Mechrite Red basecoat highlighted by Blood Red and then Blazing Orange. I shaded them with a 1:1 mix of Blood Red and Scorched Brown.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00404.jpg

Next I painted the wing and spear tip with Shadow Gray, highlighting with Fortress Gray followed by Skull White.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00405.jpg

After that, I painted the Skull and Arm using Kommando Khaki, hightlighting with Bleached Bone, followed by Skull white. Shading was done with Scorced Brown. I also at this stage painted the halo with Sunburst Yellow.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00406.jpg

Once that was dry, I painted the spear shaft and the chalice using Scorched Brown, highlighting with Vomit Brown, with a final highlight of Skull White on the chalice only. At this stage, I also filled out the shield in chaos black and touched up any other areas that may need it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00407.jpg

Finally, I used pure Kommando Khaki to do the scroll/ribbon thing.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00408.jpg

This is my first (well second now) major free hand work I have done on a banner, and I must say it wasn't as hard as I expected. So i hope this will inspire a few of yourselves to give it a go. :D

Greetings folks. Another banner for you. This time its the Banner of Captain Aphael of the Blood Angels 2nd Co.

The completed model can be found through the Blood Angels link in my Signature.

As I am not one for doing many WIP pics, I forgot at first, so the first couple stages have already been done.

I started by under coating the banner in Chaos Black. I highlighted the ruffles with Shadow Gray.

I then painted the red box about 1.5-2mm in from the edge using Mechrite Red highlighting with Blood Red. I also did the center vertical block using he same colours at the same time.

Next i painted the two yellow stripes using Iyanden Darksun. I was happy with the result so didn't highlight them any further.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00076.jpg

Next I outlined the detail in Chaos Black (although normally I would recomend a lighter colour.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00077.jpg

Next I painted the feathers starting with Shadow Gray and progressing through Codex Gray, Fortress Gray and finally Skull White.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00078.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00080.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00082.jpg

Next I worked on the grail. I started with Snakebite Leather, Highlighting detail with Vomit Brown followed by Bleached Bone.

I then painted the Blood drops starting with Chaos Black, then Mechrite Red and finally Blood Red.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00086.jpg

I then painted the Skull in the top left corner using Snakebite Leather, highlighting with Desert Yellow and Bleached Bone.

I also painted the Green Ribbons starting again from Chaos Black, followed by Snot Green and highlighted with Scorpion Green.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00088.jpg

That's how it was done ladies an gents.

C&C always welcome.

Recently, while working on my Blood Angels, I have been making my own scenic bases. They are kind of in the style of a ruined temple or some other ancient ruin. Having been asked to show how I made them, here is the walk through.

I started by cutting various shapes out of 4mm thick balsa wood. (I also use 3mm, 5mm and 10mm for different depths.) These do not have to be exact, but if you have in mind how you want them to go together, use this as a guide for basic size and shape.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00226.jpg

On the plastic base, apply a fairly thick layer of PVA : Gravel/Flock mix. (I actually used Snowtex because I was lazy, lol)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00229.jpg

It is important to set the Balsa Wood pieces in place before the PVA:Gravel mix sets because you use this to hold the Balsa Wood in place.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00230.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00231.jpg

Although I try to make them all look like they are ment to be together, I try always to vary the damage etc. This way they don't look mass produced.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00232.jpg

Next, apply Plaster or Filler to all the visible surfaces of the Balsa Wood. (I use quick drying PolyFilla) Try not to get much or any on the Gravely texture as it will dilute the detail.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00234.jpg

Once the Plaster has dried, smooth it down using a medium sand paper. Do not smooth it off completely because you want it to look warn. To add to this you can scrape shallow fleks using various sculpting tools. And also to make it look like its paving, you can score lines using a hobby knife or a mini hack saw blade like I did.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00241.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00242.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00244.jpg

Before painting, I dry fit which ever models I intend to inhabit the bases. I do this to make sure they fit correctly so I don't have to risk altering them later.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00245.jpg

You can paint them in what ever colours suit your needs. My recipy is as follows.

Chaos Black undercoat.

Scorched Brown

Graveyard Earth

Desert Yellow

Finally highlight of Bleached Bone.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC00290.jpg

Pic of the finished models can be found in my Blood Angel log in my sig.

Thanks for looking. As always C&C welcome.

Hey folks. Thank you for your kind words. They are very much appreciated :)

Just thought I'd share a little something I am working on with you.

Its about 85% to 90% built now. Basically just going around with modeling clay filling holes, gaps etc and generally cleaning it up before painting.

I'm going to post a lot more pics from multiple angles and close ups once it is fully finished, but for now just a teaser.

I present my (1st) Blood Angels Storm Raven.

Enjoy

Ok something new for you guys to view.

I had a couple old GW MK1 rhinos knocking about. I really don't like the model conmpared to the new ones. But I do like the detailing on the old one. Got me thinking about converting a few of the current models to appear like MK1 Rhino varriants.

This is the first one I am working on. I've made it so it can be either a Rhino, or a Razorback.

Let me know what you uys thing. But bare in mind, I am still working on it, so still have a few gaps to fill, a few lines to straiten etc.

I always forget to progressive shots.... But I'll be doing another one in next couple weeks, so I'll do step by step shots for you. If you are wondering about the Razorback turret.. Its the turret everyone hates from the Stormraven model.

If you fine folks remember, I built my first Stormraven last year before GW even announced the release of theirs. It was based on the Hunter Killer from Terminator Salvasion. Well I have started working on my 2nd SR. This one uses the GW kit modified to look like my original. I have used the engin pods from the Hunter Killer toy again... But it would be entirely possible to just use the ones from the kit. Appart from that, all I have used is plasticard.

Tomorrow I will start using modeling clay to fill gaps, smooth out and fix detail etc. But this is a sneek peek of what I have done so far.

Yeah, like it. And the pics to make the pre heresy rhino are gonna be great when you take 'em =)

I dont think you should move the engines. The front heavy look gives it a more chopper-like flight in my mind  So keep it =)

Swapping the engin possition would be dificult for a number of reasons. For a start they rotate between vertical and horisontal like real VTOL, which would not be possible if I moved them to where the Hurricane Bolters are. Add to that, the Hurricane Bolters would not have a good line of sight due to the enhins being in the way.

Also, I feel it would make the overall size too narrow.

When you see the craft from the side profile, it doesn't look as front heavy as these pics lead you to believe. I'll see about getting some more pics up.

Also, I wanted it to be reasonably close in appearance to my first version. Which when standing side by side, they are comparitivly close.

Natanael: I'll be making a MK1 Predator soon, when I do, I'll make the pieces for the Rhino too so you can see. :D

PS, I always double take when I see your name, my real name is Nathanael. lol

Having finished my SR (pics on my BA thread) I'm starting a Librarian Furioso and a Death Co Dread. For the DC Dread I am using the older metal Furioso model that I got off ebay and stripped the paint off. The Lib Furioso is basically the kit with a few alterations, like the 'hands' are off the Venerable kit. The book on the banner pole is a GK icon from the SR kit. And both banners and banner poles are home made.

Hey folks.

A couple months ago I posted pics of my MK1 Rhino/Razorback conversion, and had calls to show how I made it. Well I suck at WiP or tutorials. But I am working on another and have taken alot more pics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

First of all I have to say the way I made the Grills is different from the first time. But I was able to get them made in 1/4 of the time.

I noticed that the interior of the rear hatch to the Rhino kit has a nice Grill patern. So I used Greenstuff to make 4 positive molds of the patern. Its inportnant to try an keep the green stuff about 1mm thick. (Thicker will mean more work on the next stage as I found out)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01086.jpg

Then I cut 4 pieces of plasticard to the shape of the grills including the surounding colars. (I first did it with paper till I got the desired size.) Then I did the same with the Green Stuff moldings making them so you can see about 4mm of the Plasticard all around the edges.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01087.jpg

Next I mixed up some miliput, altho I would imagin what ever medium you prefer will do. and I rolled it out to about 3 mm think. (Again thicker will add more work after.) I then pressed the moldings I made into the soft Miliput making sure to press it evenly so it comes out flat.

Also while it is still soft, I used the plasticard template to cut away the excess miliput so that I would have the right shape once it had set.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01088.jpg

I carefully removed the molds I made while the miliput was still soft. If you are wondering. I used Sunflour Oil as a release agent so the molds wouldn't stick to the miliput. I find it works great and it cleans of easily.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01089.jpg

Once they had set I use a file and sandpaper to make sure the pieces were the right size, shape and all the edges were nice and sharp. I dry placed them on the side of the tank to make sure they would look ok.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01091.jpg

Using a mini hacksaw blade I cut off the existing exausts and used a hobby knife to trim off all the raised detail. I then cut the side pieces out of plasticard and glued them on so the sides are smooth. I also smoothed out the armour levels at the front and back of the drive sections again using plasticard.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01093.jpg

Next I cut out the front plate. The main piece was 43mm by 30mm usuing 2mm plasticard. The Doors are 14mm x 25mm and the view holes are 5mm x 10mm with a 3mm x 8 mm cutout. Both the doors and the view slits a 0.5mm plasticard. I also cut a small circle of plasticard about the size of a 5 pence piece to place into left copolar hole as it is slightly deeper.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01098.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01094.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01099.jpg

The Side doors are 30mm circles made from 2mm Plasticard with a verticle line scored on them from top to bottom. The Hinges are 20mm of 1/16 tube. The Brackets are 15mm x 5mm x 0.5mm plasticard. It is easier to stick the brackets to the tube before sticking the assembly to the door.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01100.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01101.jpg

For the exausts I first got some 3mm plastic tubing, heated it up with a hair drier and made 4 x 90 degree bends. Don't make them too long, but also give yourself some rome for adjustment later.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01102.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01103.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01104.jpg

Next cut 4 pieces of 6mm plastic tubing at 35mm and 4 pieces of 7mm plastic tubing at 30mm. I drilled holes into the 7mm x 30mm to look like the old style exausts. (but only on the visible sides) Believe me, it is a pain in the butt to do. But it looks much better for it.

Next I glued the 7mm tubes over the 6mm tubes, with 1mm showing at the bottom and 4mm showing at the top. Then I took the 3mm tubes with the bends and I glued them to the inside front edge of the 6mm tubes.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01105.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01106.jpg

After sticking the Vent Grills, side doors and the exausts to the side of the tank, I cut 2 pieces of 1/16 aluminium tubing approximatly 80mm long for the hold rails. I say approximately because it can vary. You need it to fit around the exausts. I don't glue the hand rails until after I have painted the model or they will get in the way.

I also made 2 foot boards by cutting 2 pieces of 2mm plasticard 65mm x 14mm clipping the ends at a slight angle (yeah I go by rule of eye alot.) These are glued under the sides of the tank.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01108.jpg

For the MK1 style 'storm' bolter(s) I got the regular hatches and trimed them like the picutes show.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01109.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01111.jpg

They are then glued into place and modeling putty is used to fill in the gaps to make them smooth.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v416/Khabjte/Blood%20Angels/DSC01113.jpg

I think that covers everything. The Razorback options are simply the turret from the Stormraven kit.

Here are a couple more weapon options I am working on.
