Hello everybody!

Long time without posting at the forums.

My life was a little bit upside down in the last year (arrghhh bloody 2009 :D !), but luckily, I was able to do some works.

I´m gonna use this thread to show you what I´m working on (WIP & PIP, sketches, etc.), some finished pieces, and another crazyness.

So let´s beginnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn !

At this case my client requested to make a new version of his commander.

He send me a pic of the previous model that he made, and taking that model as starting point I began with the sketch.

The original model made by Madclaw:

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/madclaw.jpg

My sketch for the new version:

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/WolfLordsketchIII.jpg

And the model ended looking like this:

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/SWfinalsideIV.jpg

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/SWfinalsideII.jpg

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/SWfinalsideIII.jpg

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/SWfinaldetailhead.jpg

I change a little bit the pose to make him look more in a "roaring" attitude, also i make him bald ( IMHO suits better on a 400 old space viking character).

And finally a pic of the model in pieces (for better painting purposes I make the model in pieces).

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/SWfinalpieces.jpg

That´s all for now.

Coming next ... some titan´s pieces, and a big project.

Thanks

FF

The Wolf looks great- is he a Runepriest (the cabling on his backpack and the “headphone” made me think it may be a psychic hood) or a regular Lord?

I’m not sure what to think about the fist clenching lightning bolts iconography on his shoulder pad - its almost to much like some of forge world Imperial Fist icons. That shoulder pad combined with the cloak reminded me about an Imperial Fists Captain from old Tau codex who wore a ceremonial bear fur cloak.

Does the big project have something to do with Horus Heresy? :P

He's back! He's back! Yay! :P

Seriously, nice to see you around again, and obviously you're model-making skills have not atrophied too much....

Will we, perchance, start seeing some Iron Souls again? ***crosses fingers***

Kinda reminds me of the Wolflord out of Grey Hunter, Berek Thunderfist, just without out the powerfist.

you sir are a genius with sculpting putty! wow what can i say, i dream of being good with GS someday but i dont think in my lifetime i will ever achieve the dizzy heights of your skill and talent, yet again FreakForge you have come up with a wonderfully well thought out and superbly well executed model. i bow to your expertise, 10/10!

An amazing model as usual. I especially like the clenched fist and lightning bolts icon. It makes me think that he was an earth born space wolf from the start of the great crusade. The old thunder armor had lightning bolts on it. I don't know if that is what you were going for but it is very evocative.

Wow! Great work Tad. Now if only this jerk would get of his butt and paint it. Oh, wait I'm that jerk.

He is sitting on my painting desk BEGGING for paint. Unfortunately, the end of 2009 turned into a complete cluster. Real life sucks.

Now, a little about working with Freakforge; He's great. He fielded any and all question. He was prompt and if something odd came up he was on the ball and let me know what was up. I really can't say enough nice things about him.

And for the record, the pictures don't do this sculpt justice. IT IS AWESOME!

I'll cover two question for the Freak;

Keyoz, He is my Wolflord and a whole lot of this background and fluff is pulled from Norse folklore for Thor. Really, what kind of Space Wolf junkie would I be without stealing Thor? The clenched fist and lighting bolts is really just my personal thing and it really ties in with the rest of the lighting bolts on the model. And there are allot of them.

Bigger-than-Jesus, I was going for Hakken Strombrow from the old 2nd edtion codex.

Again it is a beatiful model and thanks again Tadzio.

Give this man a cigar! That is exactly what I wanted.

WOW!

So many thanks to all for the replies!

You make me fell so happy! The better comeback of my life. I´m out of words.

@dizzy-xc: Thanks man! I will send you a PM

@Terminatorinhell: Thanks dude, I´m glad to be back too!

@Master Toddius: I will try to post more often, you know real life sucks sometimes and keep me far away from the hobby community.

@Bigger-than-Jesus: Thank you. I´m not fan to the casting, but I have some personal project involving my own line of minis, non related to the dark

millenium (steampunk minis to be precise).

@Retributis: I´m working on that :) .

@Chaptermaster Graymantle: Thanks for your kind words mate! I have made a tutorial for that kind of cape.

@Keyoz Devastrius: TyrMadclaw already answered. I may add that the idea of the cables was to make the "old-fashioned armour style" stronger.

And the answer is yes... the Primarchs are coming

@Paladin7221: Thanks buddy! The orange tide will arise again!

@Alexander Fogh Pedersen: Thanks for welcome back! I have high hopes on this year.

@kanan: Thanks a lot. Seriously, thanks.

@mikhail: Like TyrMadclaw says... A cigar to this gentleman!

@TyrMadclaw: Thanks man, you´re a generous person! I really enjoy this model, must I enjoy much more to know that you´re pleased with the piece that I made.

NOW PAINT IT! Hehehehehe.

@Capt. Kenaz: Thanks for the salutations! Stay tunned , I will add many tutorials as I can. The idea of this thread was also share some techniques to help everybody with the hobby.

@Rythlan: Blame Nurgle! hehehe.

Thanks!

Like I said before, I will update later with the tutorial of this kind of cape.

Thanks again.

See you soon.

Hi everybody!

Sorry for the double post. Here´s the tutorial for the furry cape.

Tools and materials

Cutter

Green Stuff

A "pointy sharp" sculpting tool

Vaseline

A piece of plastic bag

Sand paper

A plastic tube

Superglue

Plastic welding( optional)

First of all I want to say: this kind of cape is based on the Joaquin Palacios method, with minor modifications. All the credit to him and his magic hands.

This cape is made to represent a very furry cloath of long hair. More similar to the kind of fur that will have a polar bear, some kind of american´s wolf ; or even a Yeti.

It´s a process very time consuming, but the final result depends on leave the piece dry between the steps.

1#

You have to mix a small ball of GS (about 20 mm of diameter).

Add Vaseline to the ball until gets soft and the ball don´t stick into your fingers.

Put the ball between two pieces of plastic bag and roll over with the plastic tube (you can use a pen instead the pink tube that I have, but I don´t guarantee success B)) until you get a very thin flat piece.

Let it dry about 20 minutes.

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa2.jpg

2#

Give the desired shape with a cutter, and place the cape over the miniature.

At this moment you have to sculptl the folds and wrinkles (not to much is needed, remember, the idea is to simulate a LEATHER cape).

Let it dry completely.

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa3.jpg

Sometimes you need to put some pieces of plastic under the cape, to keep the desire shape until the GS dries.

3#

Once that the putty dries completely, make some cut on the internal face of the cape. It will suggest the different patches of leather, then use sandpaper at the same surface (it will give a more realistic texture).

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa4.jpg

I make the stitches with the plastic welding, but it can be done with GS without problem (only takes more time).

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa6.jpg

4#

Once that the stitches are completely dry, we can work on the reverse of the cape.

FURRY TIME!

Make a few sausages of GS. Cut those in tinny pieces, roll them in one of the edges to make some spikes of putty.

Apply some drops of superglue on the down edge of the cape.

Start to add the spikes as is show on the pic.

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa8.jpg

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa9.jpg

5#

Once that you cover all the down edge of the cape you must start to "comb your hair" with the help of the sculpting tool.

Lock by lock.

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa10.jpg

Make sure to comb the little locks in both sides!

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa11.jpg

Let it dry completely ( 2 hours minimum).

6#

Repeat step 5# (but try to cover only 1/3 of the previous locks).

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/tutorials/tutocapa12.jpg

7#

Repeat step 5# (but try to cover only 1/3 of the previous locks).

And so until you cover all the cape with hair.

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/sideprojects_2009/SWlordWIPXXIII.jpg

I hope to be useful, and see a lot of furry models at the forums.

Regards

FF
