Those are some sweet looking models. I too would love to know how you did the weathering. Only C&C I can make is to crop the photo's on the smaller models. Really awesome stuff though, keep it up.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate your comments!

As for the weathering on the Baal, it's really simple to be honest.

I prepare the area to be dusted with light drybrush with Scorched Brown

make a 1:1 mix with Graveyard Earth and Scorched Brown and Drybrush again.

continue with pure Graveyard Earth, followed by a 1:1 mix of Graveyard Earth and Bleached Bone

and finish with a light drybrush of pure bleached bone on the edges.

That's it, Ash Wasteland dirt in about 15 minutes!

Also, the areas which I thought should have a grease effect were done with a 1:1 mix of Badab black and Flesh Wash.

Only C&C I can make is to crop the photo's on the smaller models

Done! :)

Yeah I gotta give a big thumbs up to the weathering. It's unique in that it's not muddy looking, but has a more "trail dust" type look to it. I hope it's not a backhanded compliment; I know I've been given positive feedback more about my basing/weathering than my models themselves, and sometimes it makes me cringe.

Sergeants are pretty sweet too, lots of detail bits on the pointing one. I'm sort of torn between the brighter red like yours, and a darker more visceral red that I've recently begun to practice with. How did you achieve the brighter red look?

Thanks Vel'Cona. Doing my best here.

As for the Red, I didn't actually plan the way it looks, it just came up.

I start with white undercoat, then Blood Red, followed by a coat of Flesh wash.

Once it dries I paint with Blood Red again on the raised areas.

First highlights with Fiery Orange, final highlights with Blazing Orange

and once they're done, I wash the entire model with a coat of diluted red ink.

I hope you'll find it helpfull.

Very much so. I'm on the fence in terms of the bright vs. darker shade, at the moment. On the one hand, I like the darker shade because it's easier to get right in fewer coats, and it enables me to use black primer. I tend to have mixed results with white. On the other hand, the brighter red is more eye-catching and brings me back to the good ol' days when I first began painting.

Either way, good stuff. What's next in the queue?

Thanks for sharing. I'm suprised that look was achieved with just layers of drybrushing, fantastic.

I like the red too. I think the secret to a good BA recipe is that final red wash, it keep them from looking orange. I tried a couple darker red models, and although I liked it, I get tired of hearing "they look like blood ravens" over and over. So I have 3 attack bikes in a very nice dark red that need to be brought up to a brighter BA red.

First highlights with Fiery Orange, final highlights with Blazing Orange
I think you said that backwards.

Good stuff!

great looking models, like the weathering too! :D  do you perchance have some squad pictures? sargeants aside im always more interested how the rank and file models look like ;)

That's what I'm working on right now. :)

Coming up, is the 1st squad with all their markings on, with a meltagun and a Lascannon (let's hope that the rumours about the points cost are true :P )

I've also finished assembling and primed a Furioso Dreadnought (what a pain!)

Thanx for the feedback guys!

More pictures will follow soon...

EDIT:

First highlights with Fiery Orange, final highlights with Blazing Orange
I think you said that backwards.

Are you sure?

Fiery Orange is darker than Blazing Orange (and it's a shame really that they put it out of production.)

At least that's how my pots are... :)

I really like that bright red finish you get! It almost makes me regret the black basing/Mechrite Red scheme that I went for on my models. You also use lots of different colors for your detail bits, which adds interest to each figure. I'm not that confident in using brighter colors, other than the yellow helmets on my Assault Squad, but perhaps I'll make an attempt at a blazing power weapon here or there. Good show!

I normally use white undercoat for the red armour...

But I started with black for the Furioso -I wanted to make a DC Dread of him- but I changed my mind.

Sooo,

Black Undercoat

Mechrite Red

Layer Blood Red

Blasing Orange higlights

Red Wash.

Presto!

I am like the Dreadnought custom flamer. The indicated text on the shoulder pads – I don't normally care for the red rims on the red pads but the text and shading you have done makes them work. And I like the power sword hanging from the Sergeant's belt.

Best thing of all is you have a bunch of completely and nicely painted Blood Angels! That, by far, is better than any of the "uber-lists" that many will post but few will build and paint.

Sadly three months from now there will be many Grey Angels using the BA Codex. Happily, within two years there should be plenty of Grey Angels for sale at reduced prices.
