Brother Gideon's LPC WIP's - UPDATE!

Recommended Posts

Here are the first round of WIP pics for my LPC. This is my first year entering in the challenge, I hope that I can start things off right and complete my vow. I think it's a little ambitious for a new player/painter, but I work much better under pressure.

All primed and ready to go.

Ive got most of the base colors done in these pics, just need to do a few more areas then it's on to washes and highlights.

I've noticed after looking at the pics that I could have done a much better job at cleaning the mold lines. I'll have to remember that for my next project. Please and C&C you can give would be great!

A few days later:

I'm unhappy about the extreme highlighting on the bikes and armor. I've never done that particular highlighting before and am not very satisfied with the way it turned out. Looks like I must practice that more. Like always, C&C are always welcome.

Nice work. I'd say a darker gray would have worked better for highlighting the black and would only use that light of a gray (or is that white?) on the most extreme highlights, very sparingly. The feathered parts could use some more definition as well - thought it could also be from a flash. I build up a few layers of grays before I hit with white and only a tiny bit.

You could also try highlighting the red of the bolters. I tend to use a dash of fiery orange here and there.

The bases came out nice. And the robe looks good.

I agree with EPK, you could go dark gray, gray then you current gray to make it look better. With the brighter colours highlighting less with the darker grays.

However you could also just go back and with black and thin some of the thicker highlights if you dont wanna do that and have a steady hand.

Anyways they still look pretty swish.

Good point. A few washes of badab black over the highlights might tone them down also.

I hadn't thought of the black wash EPK...good tip about 'trimming up' the thicker highlights.....thanks yogi! I used space wolves gray for the highlighting, I really thought that it wouldn't be that 'bright' but I guess layering it over pure black will change the hue just a little bit. I only used two colors on the feathered parts and am now starting to regret it as the highlight definitely gets lost in the pictures. My picture taking skills are also at question here too guys! lol! I haven't really perfected that part of the process either! Thank you for the comments, it really helps us new guys along!
