Foot slogging assault squad. There will be a rhino to go with them. The chpater symbols are pressed out of green stuff and blu tak'd on, hence they're a bit untidy. They'll be replaced by the rereleased pads soonish.

This one was a random tester from about 3 years ago so he looks a little difference and has had a varnish. I'll most likely slap some matt varnish on him to bring down the shine.

I'll try and do a group shot tomorrow with the rhino I hope to have done as well.

Hope you guys like the start so far.mega update

Rhino is almost finished, just need some weathering put on it. Unfortunatly my camera has decided it not going to turn on so can't take any more pics, sorry guys.

I had a butchers through the codex on monday and I have to say I really disapointed by Seth's rule. The model is really nice but I just cant get over how lame his rules are. A Chapter master that dosen't even ignore armour saves, come on. Fair enough the strength 8 at normal I is nice but when ever he come up against anything with a 3+ save I can really see him having trouble. The one in six chance of a rend just dosen't cut it for me.

I think instead of using Seth I'm going to use Astorath to represent a captain. His FC and fearless on a 1-3 also represents how flesh tearers should be much more. Think me and SamaNagol are seeing the same problem with cheap as chips Mr Seth.

More pics as soon as I get a camera sorted.

Good idea about Astorath, buy you're still going to have to by the Seth model though aren't ya!!! 'coz he looks great.

As do your FT, I have commented on each thread that you're chappy has been on, I love the pose, it is a cool idea well executed. The squad are well painted too, but how about adding some weathering to them as well? Fleshtearers lap it up, especially due to the fluff about their limited resourses. Its dead easy and I'm only learning with mine.

Anyways, looking forward to seeing more :)

Yeah. I think there's as good chance I'll buy him anyway. Maybe give him a head swap ans use him as something special hehe.

I'll give the weathering some thought. I've never done it to red so maybe thats why I haven't done it yet. Something that may well be added later.

Of course.

White undercoat.

2-3 Layers of scab red. However many for a smooth layer.

Baal red and Ogryn flesh wash.

High light by adding blood red to scab red. The highlights will have to be pretty harsh as the 2nd wash drags it back down. Mine haven't really shown up to well. Something to remember for the next unit.

2nd wash of Baal red and Ogryn flesh.

Right. got myself a new camera at last so able to take some pics of the stuff I've been working on this week.

Decided my footslogging assault squad is going down in a drop pod rather than a rhino. Got the drop pod finished today.

Also after seeing a few other peoples Flesh Tearers decided to add a small amount of weathering to the squad. Sorry about the darkness, trying to get used to the new camera.

At last a group shot of the squad.

Nice looking FTs! You know, I recall seeing your Chaplain in another thread; he's a pretty cool fig with the big nasty claw. I like the hand painted symbol, as well.

I do have a slight background question, though. What do the FTs put on their right shoulder pad? I could probably look this up, but I'm interested in why you've decided to leave yours blank.

Regardless, that visceral read really stands out. Looking forward to seeing more! :P

Single color coded drop of blood for each company.

in the BRB as well as the "How to Paint Space Marines" they have tactical arrows the same as codex marines. its only in the old index astartes where they have the blood drop. i guess you could do both if you wish as they are a chapter on the brink of destruction, more so than the BA, and dont have much of a care for paint and are constantly changing their organization due to many brothers becoming Death Company: so do what ever looks good to you and there's a justification for it somewhere

Cheers for the comment guys.

I'm not sure what i'm going to do with the shoulder pads. As has been said due to the lack of numbers most flesh tearers are trained in all aspects so I see a squad getting assigned a role before a fight and they just go off and pick up the right weapons for the job without changing anything on their armour. I'll most likely give each squad a insignia to show which unit they belong too. Or just go for good old kill markings.

some nice looking marines, im in particluary interested on how you paint faces, as i suck at it :P

also on the subject of seth sucking, consider this: most HQ models have an invunerable save right? for most models its either a 4 or 5 + (for MEQ anyway) well armour sa ves are a 3+. so the odds of survival are higher when you look at it that way. HOWEVER..... every SINGLE failed save they make means instant death for their precious characters. yes its a normal close combat weapon but he hits on S8 with RENDING so while the general odds of killing hq's are somewhat lower, the result of a single save means bye bye character!

and against units youd want to use the "every single model in b2b gets auto-hitted" anyway. since its MODELS in b2b your opponent cant allocate the wounds and since most player will want to place their PF's and the like near your hq....i think you understand what my point is here right? ;)

-edit-

woops! S6 instead of S8 :)

That is true Demoulius, I like the model apeart from the head so I'll get him too paint anyway so dare say I'll try him out. He is cheap as chips too.

I'll put on a step by step for the skin tomorrow as a few people have asked.

Ok, so a few people on different threads have asked me how I do skin. So here's my easy step by step guide.

1- Base coat of Graveyard earth over a black undercoat. You will most likely need a 2nd coat to get goodish coverage.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture056.jpg

2- Add some dwarf flesh into the mix. I always start from the nose as its easy and shows you the what the contrast is like with the rest of the face. Be careful not to paint over any lines in the face etc. Leave them standing out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture057.jpg

3- Add some elf flesh into the mix as well to highlight up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture058.jpg

4- Add white to the eyes and teeth if they are showing. I add a bit of bleached bone to the white for the teeth, looks a bit odd if its pure white.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture059.jpg

5- Add black for the eyes. No tricks to this other than a steady hand. Try and keep you're flesh colour still going when you do this as you may have to touch up around the eyes.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture060.jpg

So there you have it. Easy 5 sep guide on how I do my faces for basic troops. Hope its helpful and keep the comments and questions coming with regards to the army, keeps my motivation going hehe.

I've put together my first box of DC this morning and I'm leftwith reather mixed feeling/ The sculpting is very nice and there is lots and lots of details. A bit to much for a Flesh Tearer force so I've filed and clipped a few bits here and there. One problem I've found is that because GW have included so many weapon options if you just want the basic bolt pistol and CCW load out you're left with only a few arms to choose from. Also some of the angles that the CCW armsare at are rather intersting.

Still they are nice models and this might just be an early morning moan. Here they are pre undercoat. I#ll have some painted pics up later tonight.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Left pads have been left off as I'll be putting Chapter pads on them once they arrive.

I found some of the arms the weapons are on will cause a problem when transporting, especially if I am removing chainswords and using the resin FW Chain Axes. They are very projected from the model and will take a lot of stress when in transit, even in the modular foam carry cases.

You're gonna have to do it like in the old days with the 2nd ED CC sprue, drill and pin.

EDIT: Which is why my fleshtearers don't have single chain axe.
