Obliterators

Recommended Posts

Okay, I've got a pair of Obliterators in my army. They're not the GW models, they're conversions. Here's images for one. The other is a converted tech marine. I'm not terribly thrilled with either of the conversions, and I'm not too keen on the GW models. Personally I've always thought that Oblits should display more of a "technology as flesh and body" approach. So not like bionic replacements of body parts, and not Flesh acting as machines but more like organic technology, maybe even something like Nano-tech if you wanna go there. So I'm putting some thought into new Oblit conversions but frankly I'm not sure where to go. I've been watching several movies to get ideas and I keep coming back to scenes in Iron Man and how his armor appeared to move and act for all the little things. The dozens of panels that moved to control him in flight, the hundreds of calculations the computer made during his flight, the way there were just levels on top of level on top of levels of mechanisms working. And that's kind of the imagery I'm thinking of. Like a technical understanding so advanced that it mechanically replicates organic life and at the same time surpasses it in ability.

One idea I had was converting a terminator to make a pair of bolters 'un-folding' out of one leg and having a Lascannon extending out of the opposite arm with the fingers of the hand retracting into the barrel as the arm reconfigures to a new design.

Yeah as you can see I've got an idea, but not really sure where to go with it. Any advice or suggestions?

I think your on the right track just keep doing what you ar doing my only thought would be get your hands on some guitar on bass strings for tubing and the like also gale force 9 has a nice set of plastic tubes that are great.

That's a great start - I'd suggest cleaning the mold lines (right arm) and drilling out the barrels to the guns.

I second the guitar chord suggestion. If you're cheap like me, try visiting local music stores that teach lessons and asking if they've re-strung any instruments or had any broken strings.

Lastly, you might want to remove or GS over the crux terminatus (the skull on the cross on the left shoulder and knee pad) since it is a high imperial honor.

cheap is defiantly my MO right now. I have guitar chords and plently of them. A local music shop was closing and I went in and bought like $20 worth of 'em (Considering that they were selling the full set packages for $1 each...). But I don't follow what you guys are suggesting to do with them.

I made my Obliterators as two old tech mariens as they a, and loaded them with GUN's :)

Here is a pic of one of them ( the chainsword on the reaper gun is not there I took it off cause I did'nt like it there)

I hope it can give you some inspiration.

Basically, guitar strings, wires, whatever you want to call them, can be bent or shaped to make hoses or tubes. They are just the right scale and look pretty high tech with very little work.

While these aren't as well-armed as Eschelund's Obliterators (which are cool enough that I might need to do more work on mine), the one on the left shows what I mean:

He's got a wire from his left shoulder to the plasma gun on his arm and a wire belt as well. Hope that helps.

Here is mine, inspired by Animerik but based on AoBr Termi due to lazyness:

okay, I know I have better examples of what I mean when I say "living machine" but these are all I can find right now. If I can find those better examples I will post links to the video. For the moment look at these:

Cyborg Powers up to Lay the smack down!

Major West Armors up.

When I say 'living machine' I mean like it looks like there's just hundreds of thousands of moving parts each doing something that contribute to greater action. Cyborg's transformation, there's like 50 parts that extend, wrap, turn, twist, coil and lock into place for each cannon. When Major West armors up it's a series of like 50 panels each locking into place to protect his face.

Ya see what I mean? That's the kind of idea I'm trying to do with my Oblits. Like one minute he looks like a normal techmarine, then he stretches his arm our and it elongates, his shoulder extends outward into a more box like form, his finger retract while part of his lower arm expands and become more cylindrical and suddenly you have a lascannon pointed at you.
