Recommended Posts

Greetings to all. Thank you for your patiance.

Lets get this party kicked off!

I am announcing my first Covertion Challenge! For those of you that have been following the original thread, I know what you want to know. What is the required part.

The Required part for this challenge will be: Chronus's Torso. This is the just the torso part, not the full body on legs part. Just the upper torso with the Scanner array.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/My%20Work%20Space/bit-chronus_torso.jpg

For those of you who are new to this challenge, and want to know more about it, here is some information. If you have any additional question after reading this information, please post them in this thread: Interested in a conversion challenge?

Rules and Information for the Challenge:

What is this Conversion Challenge?

This conversion Challenge will be a 30 Day challenge where in each participant will create a converted model. The final model may represent anything the participant wishes, so long as it does not violate any limitions as outlined below.

The Challenge is recorded has having started Saturday the 15th of May, at 10pm eastern time. All entries MUST be submitted prior the end time, of June 10th, 10am eastern time. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS!

Limitation 1:

The final conversion must use the required part.

Limitation 2:

The conversion must be appropriate for this forum (Remember, we are on BolterandChainsword.com after all)

Those are the only limitations. If you want to build a gigantic Army A clashing with Army B diorama where the leaders of the two armies are conversions utilizing the required bit; Fantastic idea! More power to ya! We can't wait to see the finished product. If you want to create a loan model to represent you're newly inducted Chosen Space Marine; Outstanding idea! we want to see what you converted to pull off the idea.

When is this Challenge?

The Challenge began Saturday, the 15th of May at 10pm eastern time. The challenge will run for 30 days, until June 9th. By June 10th, 10am eastern time, ALL entries must be in. There is currently a panel of 3 confirmed judges for this challenge with a fourth on stand by if needed.

How do I submit my conversion?

Post pics of it. There are several free image hosting services available online including Photobucket and Flickr. You can upload your pictures to those services and then post links to them in a thread on this forum. If you encounter difficulty in getting the pictures uploaded, I encourage you to ask for help. For additional information on taking good pictures of your miniature, We suggest you take a look at the B&C's Photoshop Tutorial: Profession Pics of your Minis.

What do I need to submit?

Pictures. for simplicity sake, I ask that you submit 5 shots of your conversion.

1) Front or head on shot

2) A shot from the left side

3) A Shot from the right side

4) A shot from the back side

5) A 3-view shot from the front-right, or front-left. You're choice.

Here are Examples of Each shot:

head on shot

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/head-on.jpg

The Camera is looking directly at the model and the model is facing right toward the camera.

Left Side shot

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/left-side.jpg

The Camera is looking directly at the model and the model is facing To the left edge of the frame. This helps give the judges a sence of the depth of the model. What may look like a flowing cloak from the front, could be shown to be a flat panel from the side

Back shot

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/back-shot.jpg

The Camera is looking directly at the model and the model is facing directly away from the camera.

Right Side

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/right-side.jpg

The Camera is looking directly at the model and the model is facing To the right edge of the frame. This helps give the judges a sence of the depth of the model. What may look like a flowing cloak from the front, could be shown to be a flat panel from the side.

3-view

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/3-view.jpg

This is the "Damn! Does this guy look hawt!" shot. It also helps give the judges a better sence of the model as a whole.

if the judges need a different shot of your conversion, we will contact you and ask for a specific shot. If when viewing your images we can not clearly see where you used the required piece, we will send you a message asking you to point it out for us.

Where do I send the pictures?

On this forum. Submit a post in this thread.

What were you saying about the required piece?

The required piece is the primary point of the challenge. Anyone can make a cool conversion with their own parts. But when you're limited to needing to use one specific part, it becomes much more of a challenge. In that spirit, this conversion challenge is limited by the fact that you will be required to make use of a specific part in your conversion. Please understand, that I am only requiring you to use the part. I make no requirement on how the part is used.

For example; Lets say the required part is this Space Marine Body. To have a qualified entry for the challenge that body MUST be used. You may want to use it as the central part of the conversion and convert a Space Marine Sergent directing his squad forward under fire. Perhaps you want to convert a scene where a Chaos daemon just ripped a gigantic gash down the length of the body so you take a dremal to the body carve out the gash and green stuff in the ravaged armor edges. The final conversion has a Blood Letter standing over the recently ravaged marine. That would be fine. Perhaps you want to swap out the head so you take your dremal and core out the head to put the half-cybernetic head in it's place and go on to convert an Iron Father who just wreaked a Tyranid warrior. That would be fine.

Will the required part be metal or plastic?

For this first challenge it will be metal.

What? Why? Metal is hard to work with

The main concern raised about this challenge as been cost for the required bit. Generally speaking, acquiring a part that is available via blister is cheaper then acquiring a part in a plastic box set. Using the above example, the cost to acquire the body would be $11.50 USD because that marine is available in a blister. Where has if you to build the same body out of plastic you need to acquire the Tactical Marine box set for $35.00 USD. From a planning stand point I am making these decisions on a worst case basis, and that is "If I had nothing, and I entered this challenge, that am I required to have?". Blisters are generally cheaper then box sets. Plus I never said you had to go out and buy the blister. Maybe you have a friend who has that piece laying around from an old conversion. Offer to trade for it.

What about painting? As already stated, this is a Conversion contest. Not a Golden Daemon or Golden Bolter. You will receive no extra credit for a good paint job. In truth, painting your conversion before we announce the winners will probably hurt your chances at winning as painting tends to hides a conversion, and the key point is that you must use the required part.

If you have any questions regarding this Challenge, please post them in this thread: Interested in a conversion challenge?

Really not sure why the spike looks so bent in the pictures, must be my silly angles. On a quick note the scanner isn't on his back, but incorporated into the chainsythe, I hope this is ok par the rules, if not, well I gave it a shot!

Bad ass first entry, hopefully I'll be able to find a Sergeant Chronus in Singapore, I think theres only one shop left in the country and they don't have him haha.

Really inventive use of the scanner array by the way

Thanks for the really obscure required piece. I'll see you around the second challenge unless it requires the boots of Lucius (or anything else that costs money for me to go out of my way to purchase, with no real incentive to win other than the respect of some Maverike fellow).

Your example is quite odd too. Considering the price of a $10+, compared to a $35 box that 90% of every user here owns. Maybe next time just choose a theme or pose, and not a piece.

well to be honest, it leaves you with some really cool pieces most armies could use, and the Iron pattern armour it comes with will be really handy. I only participated for the challenge, not to gain respect.

For my entry, a Sanguinary Priest for my shiny new BA army. Ok, not really new, but the codex has peaked my interest again and the theme for my entry was quickly decided.

What self-respecting Blood Angel would be without a jump pack? Or a big power weapon?

this is by far the hardest pic i have had to get. I have lost count on how many times i have tried this..i know i have transfered at least 3 batches to my laptop that has photoshop and yet i still can't seem to get a prefectly crisp and clear pic of my chaplain conversion.

Anyways i am including 5 pics in total, the 4 pics as suggested by the rules, the last pic is just to show the model with the jumppack back pack option. I magnetized two different backpacks so i can field my chaplain on foot or with a jump pack. I also wanted to add a pistol holster but i couldn't find a bit that fit right or didn't look to big and the model has alot of details i tried to keep. I was also torn on what to actually add to the chest eagle, and decided on a giant skull to replace the standard giant skull that chaplains tend to have on there shoulder pads. So the image of his chest is a little blurry to the skull so its hard to make out the details like i want but i couldn't give him a wash either.

Chief Techmarine Arcanox of the Steel Sphinxes chapter (and his trusty beamer, of course!) Working on this model (and ruining 2 knife blades in the process) reminded me why I prefer plastic over metal.

Aha! It is not yet 10 am! Time for an entry.

Here is my diorama, titled "Hunt the Fallen, No Matter the Cost". It portrays the Dark Angels seeking the capture of a Fallen Angel, who has already been captured by a force of Ultramarines who do not realize his importance. When threatened by the Dark Angels, the Ultramarines threaten violence, but the Dark Angels stride forward despite that, determined in their hunt. The diorama pictures the moment just before shots are fired.

Hope you guys like it. Cheers!

Edit: I did a diorama instead of a single mini, so I couldn't follow your photo guidelines. Sorry.
