The Stormwing cometh... [updated: 19th Dec]

So after digging out my White Scars again, i thought i'd try to arrange my army into themed sub-armies. With multiple land raiders and the White Scars love for transporting things, with my love for forgeworld land raiders and terminators, i decided to make an army which would represent the personal guard of Jubal Khan; a sort of hunting party/inner circle in the 1st Brotherhood. :P

Here's my Black Reach terminator and sergeant. The conversions are actually very simple but i'm happy with how much they changed the feel of the original AoBR minis and White Scarified them :)

Dude, that is a pretty wicked sergeant. :P

My only advice to him is that you need to add a stringy mustache that flows down and converges with the beard to give this guy the true mongol feel that the white scars are known for.

My other thing is that both their suits of terminator armour is just a tad bit too plain for my tastes. White Scars always seemed like they would be the decorative type, that and these are the sacred veterans of the white scars chapter. They should be adorned with a great deal of decoration.

maybe try some skulls and orc heads on a string across their shoulder or waist. Maybe a cloak or some purity seals/oaths.

But otherwise, lookin great man. I'm watchin this one.

Quick replies! Thanks!

I agree the armour does look a bit plain, will try to add little things to give them more of a 'marauding barbarian' feel. A chain of ork skulls is an excellent idea!, of course some models down the line will start getting pelts etc, but these guys i might just add something small to... Perhaps rings pierced into the armour as some kind of service/campeign decoration. Wolf and horsetail talismans/ necklaces will come shortly too.

The trick is to make them look a bit savage without making them look just like white coloured Space Wolves, which is why i've opted to go for standard terminators, and then modify from there.

As for the moustache Noctus, i stuck with just the goatee on the Sergeant because i could see MANY moustaches and fumanchu's on the horizon! The plain braided goatee was just something different B)

Update!

Next 2 terminators in the shooty squad complete. This squad will be riding around in a Prometheus to give fire support. Btw, anyone know where i can get a replacement part for a FW kit? I've lost one part of my LR Prometheus (since i put it away some 8 years ago); it's the sensor thing at the top of the vehicle if it helps... It's shouldn't be too hard to build my own version of it but it'd be nice if i could find/get my hands on the original part.

Running in to give some Ork filth a piece of his mind... as in, the piece with S8 I1!

ps. there is a tutorial on the necklace in the Modelling section of the board if anyone is interested.

Thanks guys :D

@ Darius.

I actually spotted them at a model shop when i was overseas and picked up a whole pile of rivets sprues... The company/line is called Wave Option System; you can find them on ebay for about 5 bucks.

Unsurprisingly, i'd say that these rivet sprues are probably the most useful hobby part i've EVER used. Useful for decorating armour, tanks, weapons; or anything you need a quick even dome on!!

@ DAwarrior,

Sure, i'll include it in my next post. Nearly finished with the assault cannon terminator.

[edit. there was an online store link which i know B&C doesn't really allow... even so, that link was out of stock anyway]

It's been said before, but your converting and greenstuffing skills are fantastic. When I saw the topic title I wasn't sure what to expect, but you've succeeded in making some nicely detailed and very characterfuil mini's for a chapter that doesn't seem to get much love these days.

Looking forward to seeing more of this squad

James

First up, for DA Warrior, here is a better angle of the power sword. Cut from plasticard and then sharpened. Pretty straightforward.

Now, the last member of the squad.. Assault cannon marine! He's a black reach terminator with new arms, a headswap and a bit of greenstuff. Oh, and a bit from the butt of a Kroot rifle.

Last... a teaser of what's on the horizon. Assault terminators (waiting for my dang bits to arrive in the mail! O_o) on their way!

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments... Keeps me working ;)

Half of them are black reach terminators with some mix and match involved. For the army i've bought 2 normal terminator squads and a black reach terminator squad. I should've gone for assault terminators, but at first i thought i'd be doing a Wolfwing list rather than a Deathwing one. See how changing your mind can cost you? :wallbash:

Also have a Prometheus and Crusader which'll need stripping, and unassembled Godhammer and Redeemer waiting on the sidelines... cant wait til the summer break when i can really get to work on that!

edit. weird post repeat thing :/

Brief update here, with a bigger one to come in maybe a week (exam period :P). Not everything i've done on these guys to date but nevertheless; just watched the movie Mongol last night and got a whole lot more motivated to have these dudes oozing with character! Here's a heavy flamer terminator. Not too much done on him, just some studs and a skull spike from the Chaos Warriors kit. Also a big wolftail from a Wolfguard thunderhammer *hint*

What i'm more proud to show though are these... Mongolian-styled Storm Shields which i'm setting up to be cast just now so i can use them on some of my bike Command Squad. :P

looking really good, lots of character!

thanks for the picture of the repositioned legs, I've still got 10 terminators to build and I really want more walking legs (but not all the same ofcourse). That picture makes it look so easy...
