Legion of the Lost

Hi folks.

I started this project over a year ago and have recently (with the advent of FW minis and new horus heresy books) been compelled to puch it a step closer to completion.

Basically it all started when I had the idea to start a pre-heresy army (again, inspired from the books). I wasn't sure which army I preferred so I thought I would paint a couple of test marines from spare minis to see which scheme I liked best. The test minis were emperors children and luna wolves. Once I had painted the two minis I still couldn't decide which I liked best. Also, I decided at that point in time a pre=heresy army wasn't the best idea as I had no spare cash really and other armies needing attention. However, it did give me another idea.

After looking at my codex marine armies it occurred to me the only entry I couldn't represent was the legion of the damned. After re-reading the codex entry for them I thought, why not have a squad of former legionnaires from the traitor armies who appear as mysteriously as the LoTD to aid the Imperium in times of dire need. They could represent the last loyal members of each legion, or perhaps embody the honour of that legion prior to its fall to chaos. With this in mind, I managed to scavenge together enough parts for 10 marines (the tenth legion would be the Sons of Horus) and got to work designing the look and feel of each one.

When I realised how much conversion work would be involved the project stalled somewhat, although I had the basic concept outlined. Then, when FW released the pre-heresy range (ironically, a fwe months after I had finally committed to a pre-heresy army) I found myself with enough spare parts to finally do them justice. Haven't decided on a name a such, but 'Yesterdays heroes' or the 'Legions of the Lost' seem fitting. At the moment the modelling is finished on them and they just need painting. The bases will stay black with cotton wool attached to provide an eerie mist as they emerge from the ether. All comments most welcome.

Thousand son - based heavily on the 'A thousand sons' book cover, he is meant to be a lower level Sorceror (hence the lack of an elaborate helm) with no need for boltgun or CCW when he has his heqa and sorcery

Alpha legionnaire - the special weapon guy, armour was painted green, then with regal blue then washed with purple ink

World eater - armour washed with gryphonne sepia to make it look as if many years of dried and washed off blood had discoloured it. Chain axe made from chainsword and power axe.

Luna wolf - GS hair and RTB01 boltgun for variety, armour washed in black to distinguish from the WE colour.

Son of Horus - extremely difficult to get the right shade of sea green so settled for this in the end. (lots of washes)

That's all for the moment, looking forward to getting them finished and on the battlefield ASAP tho. Cheers.
