How do you paint your scouts?

How have you guys painted your scouts? I'm about to start on my scouts and I would love some ideas and maybe some pics. In my eyes, the white they are painted in in the codex is a bit too "happy". My army is defending Baal, so the bases are mostly wasteland, vulcanic rocks and such. Giving the scouts white uniforms feels wrong.

And how should I do the camo cloaks when they are fighting on this barren wasteland?

Camouflage is the colour of fear. I'm sure scouts don't worry too much about it. They are wearing bright red armour, after all. My guys have a sandy desert colour for their fabric (Snakebite Leather?), based on the idea their uniforms are derived from Baal and its moons, not dependent on where they are fighting. Soldiers down the ages have always complained about being issued with the wrong gear for the theatre, and I'd expect this to be true in spades in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium. Imperial authorities have a tendency to label all worlds as though they have a single climate or vegetation type: 'desert world' 'ice planet' 'dinosaur swamp planet'. Imagine how they might be dressed for a Martian campaign which happened to stray into the planet's polar regions.

I totally agree that the white looks very wrong, though.

First squad I painted when I got back into the game after a break about 3 years ago. Still happy with the way they look but my painting has improved since. Not sure I would do camo again for the next 5 (or subsequent squads), and the new 'dex renders my squad markings obsolete (I'm a bit of a stickler for that but can't be bothered to change them now :D )

I used the regular red and black to tie them into the death company feel that the BA's have. White is sooo wrong for them... Hell, even our apothecaries wear red.http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3676.jpghttp://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3677.jpghttp://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3678.jpg

Thanks for all the input guys, those are some beautiful scouts. Love that camo Mortifer, it's a good thing that my guys don't wear forest camo, because I can't paint like that :)

That red and black would work with my guys, only trying to find a good camo for a volcanic ash kind of wasteland.

And then it's those faces. I hate doing faces.

Oh well, better get to it, they aren't painting themselves sadly enough.

Thanks again!

May not be the best looking scouts you've ever seen, but this is how I did the ones I currently have. I actually like the Bleached bone look as it is shown on the box. Scouts arent most fun to paint, but I like to paint them alot. It's the faces indeed, and so on. I'm soon to be having scouts with camo cloaks too, and I was thinking of painting them with black legs and such. But I will have enough time to think about what to do, as I got 3 more boxes of models to be painted :P

EDIT: PS: It looks like im one of the few people who paint them with bare hands :D
