Spears of Ilios (SM chapter) and Inquisition

Hi guys,

here is just a little distraction from my current work on WHFB armies : an assault vet for an online competition.

The theme is a SM (assault, tactical or devastator), 40mm maximum size for the base, and the mini will be judged only on painting.

I've found enough bitz in my bitz box to built this one.

7 hours of painting later, I've this mini on the desk....

It's still WIP (lots of details to finish), but I think it's on a good way...

And I really thonk to make an army of some of this guys...

Hope you like it.

As always, comments and criticism are welcome.

And I need some help to find a chapter name, with a little greek or roman inspiration... ^_^

How the hell did you make the exhausts on the jumppack look hazy?? Its like i'm looking at it through the heat generated by them! Very nice job!

thanks for comments, guys.

@Fire Lord Captain :

Found the tutorial on Dakkadakka, from Roleplayer (Blood Raven blog). I don't have the link here, but it's easy to find ! ^^

I'm finally decided on the chapter name, and I've decided to call them the "Spears of Ilios" (with some Greek and Troy inspiration).

First is brother Patrocle, assault vet painted for an online competition on a french forum :

Then, you have a Myrmidon (vet from 1st Company, in terminator armour) and a novice from 2nd squad of the 10th company :

And the family pic :

Little update of the day, with my 1st assault squad, still WIP (bases done, but I still have to greenstuff some parts and finish to smooth some details...)

- group shot :

- vet sergent, with power weapon and storm shield :

No inspiration for the moment for the sergent's name, so if you have suggestions, I'm very interested !

Nice work frater, this is some very clean work and a well balanced color sheme. In an IMHO way to be constructive, I'd say I'm a bit less fan from the space between the left foot and the base of yar assault dude and from the golden trim on the chainsword (catches the eye a bit too much).

Plz keep on doing that well, ils a real pleasure to see.

He looks like a Sergeant Heracles to me!

Noted, and the name is added to the still growing list...

for the base, it's not the definitive, but just a temporary base for the competition. I will try to do a better one next time.

for now I'll just ask: how'd you get such a nice fade on the yellowish white of the shoulder pads (colors and technique)?

Base color is bleached bone.

For shading, you add a little dot of snakebite leather to the bleached and do the 1st layer. Then you can continue by adding more snakebite to the mix and reducing the area.

Highlights are done by adding Prince August Ivory to the bleached bone (IMO better than white, too crayish for my taste).

I'll try to make a tuto on the next batch of minis.

Wow, These are wonderful miniatures. I Really like the way you've based the scout on a lower base, though I can't really say I like the bases themselves (not that they're bad bases, They just don't appeal to me).

I think the sergeant is should be called 'Dalran', it's not a greek/troy name, but sounds right to me :(

Please Keep us updated, I'm enjoying this so far. Thanks!

I'd keep the name Heracles for some guy with a Power Fist. That would be cool. And Achilles for some Termie with a storm shield as they are pretty much invincible. And maybe Perseus for the guy? Perseus had a round, mirror shield and a pegasus (jump pack)...

Thanks for the comments, brothers !

It keeps me motivated, as I have tons of projects running on at the same time ! ^^

Great work. I love the bases - how did you do those?

Cork, sand, photoetched brass from the GW urban basing kit.

Then paint, and finitions are done with pigments for creative arts (red ochre for this army)

Final step is to add highland tuft from Warlord Games.

what is the colour you use for the main body of it as i think its very nice indeed, any chance of a recipe?

This color is a Prince August green called "german uniform", shaded with GW chaos black and highlighted with PA ivory.

@AngryJohnny:

I will make a whole army ! And I've begun to paint the next battle brothers...

Here is a WIP of the assault squad. Still lot of work to do, but it comes nicely... :

And for the name (and the painting) of the sergent, I chose to name him Brother Herreros, as he is the perfect twin of an old french rugbyman, Daniel Herrero :

Hope you like them !

As always, C&C welcome !
