Ultramarines and White Panthers for Apocalypse

Dwarfkernow

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have been a lurker on the B&C for a while now and have finally decided to post.... I am currently working on a White Panther Space Marine Army. The army will use some Space Wolf components but will still play as a codex chapter.

The army came about as my parents cleared the shed and presented me with a box of marines that i had forgotten about. I have always liked the colour scheme and decided that these marines would formulate the new project.

First up the marines as I found them

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload120910034.jpg

These were from a project which I had started a while ago and then moved and the project was never completed.

The first squad of White Panthers were really a distraction from finishing my Ultrmarine Battle Company.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload120910037.jpg

I was really pleased with the way that they came up, especially the Sgt

From this squad I decided that a small army was in the offing.

A command squad was next up

The army is a WIP as I have a Vanguard squad assembled and awaiting a coat of paint, the commander has been built usng a B&C tutorial, he is not stuck together yet hence the odd pose.

Hi all

Have made some progress on the White Panthers but first an update of the work already completed on this army. i have 2 Tactical squads painted.

Squad "Augustus"

This is a close up of some of the marines that make up squad Augustus. Each Tactical squad is being led by a classical metal sgt (I will photograph the whole squad with the sgt included).

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload120910058.jpg

Each squad has a flamer and a heavy weapon although I have not decided how to arm them.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload120910039.jpg

The squad needs tidying up and completing, but overall I am very pleased with how the army is developing. I am experimenting with diferent ways to paint white. So far I have found that Shadow Grey followed by Space Wolves grey and finally Skull white has given the best results. If anyone has any quicker or other methods I would be pleased to her from you.

The Army so far consists of 1 tactical squad completed and 1 on the way.

For fire power I have started a Termie Squad and have converted a landspeeder asault cannon onto a AOBR terminator.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload120910063.jpg

This is the termie painted with a Bolter and chainswoord decal added.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload120910078.jpg

I also acquired some Space Wolf skylaws which I will paint up as Panther vanguard marines.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload120910069.jpg

I have also built a Deathwatch kill team which will count as Sternguard. Hopefully by next weekend i will have managed to complete a few more marines and will be able to post some of the Ultramarine part of this Apocalypse force.

Thanks Captain Mick for the comments

Since the last update I have managed to complete 2 tactical squads for the White Panther contingent of the Apocalypse force. One squad still needs to have the chapter markings added to the left hand shoulder guard.

Squad Legastus

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110036.jpg

This squad consists of 10 marines and as you can see in the photo one is armed with a Heavy Bolter.

The second tactical squad is as previously mentioned Squad Augustus, as yet they do not have a heavy weapon marine within the squad, I am not sure what the best option would be?

Squad Augustus

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110040.jpg

I have also made some progress on the Vanguard Veteran Squad, I am quite pleased with how the space wolves components are fitting with the White Panther colour scheme.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110015.jpg

The squad Sgt on his own, I have to highlight and finish off the Thunderhammer.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110017.jpg

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110019.jpg

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110018.jpg

I have enough bits and pieces to make a Sternguard Vet squad which will be a forthcoming project.

I need to start the commander to make the army game legal.

As these posts are in reference to a large apocalypse force that I am building consisting of an Ultramarine force and units from the Deamonhunters codex alongside a contingent of White Panthers.

I have started work on the Ultramarine 1st Company Rapid reaction force. The picture below shows an arial photo of the force in its current form.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/Ultramarinefirstcompany.jpg

As you can see there is still a fair amount to paint... the force consists of Marnus Calgar (Smurf Leader)

10 Assault Terminators

30 Tactical Terminators

2 Dreadnoughts

1 LandRaider Crusader

Below I have a few close ups of the force painted to date

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110006.jpg

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110005.jpg

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110002.jpg

I need to paint the stormbolters black to fall in line with the rest of the force

I will post some photos of the dreadnoughts at a later date. I have a AOBR Dreadnought that was purchased off ebay to paint in the panther colour scheme so hopefully I will be able to post some WIP of that. Comments and feedback always welcome.

Thanks for the comment Tiny Sam that made me laugh.

Have managed to build the Deathwatch team and have painted the Sgt, am using the rules for Sternguard and can either sit with the Ultramarines or White Panthers.

The concept and fluff of the Deathwatch is really cool and have been saving enough of the plastic pads to be able to field a couple of squads.

The Sgt is based on my idea of Uriel Ventris during his days with the Kill Teams, he was built from a rummage in the bits box. So not sure how tactical his weapon choices are as I dont get the chance to game that often.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110021.jpg

So far in the kill team I have a Space Wolf Veteran (again built with a rummage)

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110022.jpg

Heres a group photo, not sure what chapters to represent on the other marines though. I thought about the Imperial fist chapter for one of them,as would like to push my yellow painting skills.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110020.jpg

Also whilst having a look though the B&C came across some pics of a Grey Knight Army and was inspired to finish painting a squad that had been sat on my painting desk looking sorry for themselves. Comments and feedback always welcome as I have been painting for a while but always looking to improve.

These will be added to the apocalypse army as its a few more points spent

As promised heres a couple pictures of my First Company Ultramarine Dreadnoughts these are completed and the bits have arrived to convert the AOBR dreadnought into a Venarable white panther dread. I am going to use the tutorial which was kindly provided by Cathar the Great (sorry not sure how to link to the post).

Ultramarine Venarable dread

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110011.jpg

The ordinary dread (attached to the 3rd Battle company)

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110009.jpg

I am aiming to paint the entire 3rd Company of Ultramamrines with a detachment of White Panthers. I also won some unpainted tactical squads on Ebay so may have room to add other chapters representing a crusade force. However before I get carried away and begin painting the left on the painting station chapter, heres a few pictures of my first squad of Devastators from the 3rd company of Ultramarines.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110026.jpg

I have decided to paint the Sgt with the traditional red helmet and I have painted a Veteran with a White helmet, he will take charge if the squad splits down into combat squads.

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110023.jpg

I am holiday for a couple of weeks so am hoping to complete the Panther Dread and will update during the conversion stages. Comments always welcome

  • 3 weeks later...

"The water splashed onto the carapace of Venerable Brother Daruc, the servo motors groaned as he scanned left and right, the smoke choked rain was interfering with primary sensors. His face had not felt the cooling rain since his interment into the cerebral fluid of the sarcophagus 124 years previous. Daruc had been a stout follower of the Emperor since his induction into the Ultramarine ranks and had always looked to smite the enemies of Ultrama with a his ornate powerfist and master crafted bolter. His life should have ended during fierce fighting in the governors courtyard on Delvor 6 as whilst the last of the populace was being evacuated, Daruc had been mortally wounded defending the governors wife and children. The dreadnought shook the thought from what was left of his memories as an explosion ripped through the building to his left, showering his armoured form with thick blocks of concrete and steel shrapnel. He pivoted to face the advancing enemy head on, he was an instrument of death, blessed with the power of armoured shell and weapons provided to vanquish the enemies of the light and just path of the emperor. Brother Daruc powered up his weapon systems and remembered the oath he swore with his brother marines during the fateful engagement that had led to his internment. Today, however was the day the oath ended. The white hot melta blast tore through the front armour plate and Brother Darucs service to the emperor, his chapter and to his brother marines ended".

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110043.jpg

Brother Yanis was the first to exit the Storm Raven, his bolter sweeping left and right releasing those in the grip of the false gods. His squad had been deployed once news of Brother Darucs demise had been established. The ancient armour had to be recovered for future heroes and Yanis had accepted the mission as any Space Marine would have, he knew no fear.

Brother Yanis moved through the streets tactically providing the emperors light where darkness fell. However, today fate had a cruel and devious hand to play.....

Brother Yanis scanned the street, his squad fanning out behind him. Each marine taking a tactical position, their enhanced senses watching and listening for sounds of encroaching threats. The task was to secure the remains of the dreadnought and hold until the chapter stormravens could winch the stricken dreadnought back to the chapter techmarines.

Brother Yanis crept forward, gripping the bolter tightly, "Incoming" came a shout from Veteran Brother Hecto as Lascannon rounds ripped through the air around them. Brother Centus took a direct hit and his powered armour form went spinning in the air, the suit powerpack igniting turning him into a human fireball. The screams echoed in Yanis's ear piece and the green life icon turned to red. Brother Yanis cursed the filth of chaos and pushed forwards, his mission the priority. From the right, a handful of traitors who having gained confidence in their first kill strayed from hard cover, a mistake that would cost them their lives. Yanis unleashed hell. Yanis powered forward on turning the corner Yanis could see the smoking form of Venerable dreadnought Daruc and then everything went silent.

The Apothecary looked at the Captain and shook his head. Brother Yanis had been caught in an explosion from an unseen traitor armed with a portable missile launcher. Although encased in power armour the damage was extensive, only the strng will of Yanis was keeping him alive. The Apothecary mulled over the options , did he provide Yanis with the Emperors grace or was there another option.

The Apothecary beckoned over one of the Techpriests and asked how long it would it take to prepare the Dreadnought for another battle brother. The Techpriest glanced down at the broken body of Yanis and turned to a servitor and instructed it to bring a portable statis field. "Not long Apothecary, not long"

This is how I recieved Brother Daruc

Many thanks to Cathar the Great for his tutorial. I am hoping to have the Dreadnought painted in Ultramarine colours over the next few days as am on holiday.

Quick update on the Dreadnought.

I managed to get the Ultramarine blue armour and white helmet painted, I am trying to decide what to put on the left side of the sarcophagus. I am thinking about painting half an eagle or adding a shield of some description. :D

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110051.jpg

http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab95/bjkernow/upload251110052.jpg

I am quite pleased with the results so far as the Dreadnought needed quite abit of attention. Is there a legendary Dreadnought force for Apocalypse. Have managed to purcahse another Aobr dreadnought and managed to acquire some Ironclad arms :) from my local supplier of bits and pieces (the troll trader). This will bring the number of dreads to

1 Ultramarine Iron Clad

2 Ultramarine Venerable

1 Ultramarine Standard

1 Greyknight

1 White Panther

Comments and critique always welcome

I have to finish them off and add some transfers to the right shoulder pad. (base as well)

Hope to have them finished over christmas and will post a whole army photo (providing the misses will let me have the kitchen table).

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all at B&C
