Ash Dragons W.I.P

Asrech

Recommended Posts

Well I've been gone for quite a while but time to raise some more hell! Back in Sweden for a year or two, busy with work and what-not. My camera got busted in the flight and I've yet to buy a new one, and there you have the reason to why I've been under the radar for so long.

But onward to glory! Currently working on my biker list, (41 bikes and 5 speeders at 1750pts).

And in my search for bikes I've been given a few that were quite beaten up/damaged/overly painted etc etc so bad that they couldn't serve as normal bikers.

What to do then? Conversions of course!

I've built a librerian and a techmarine on bikes so far, a chaplain will probably soon follow as well.

MotF/techmarine on bike.

The Servo harness is magnetized, so that it's easier to transport and that I can choose to not give the character one ( if I don't have points or want to convert a distuption beacon later on )

Wanted to give the armour a bit more of a "techy" feel, so I added the typical scaled platings that are common on techmarines, on his legs and helmet.

He was also given a FW mech-arm with plasma, and a second mech-arm with some simple converting.

I had to give the bike new bolters since the old ones were clogged with paint, and the front wheel shield was given the "cog" pattern to add effect.

He has since been painted to about 80%, pics will be up sometime this week I hope (if I can borrow the cam again)...

Librerian

Built with a DA biker as base, some bits and greenstuff. But the big book on front to really hammer the "librerian" image home, and the bolter on the front wheel just to make sure I don't get any WYSIWYG arguments down the line. Paint is far from done on pretty much any color.

The army so far!

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/Gubbar039.jpg

Still about 6 bikes and a speeder to go. So I'm expecting to get another ravenwing box next week.

The color scheme will be the same as my terminators ( black/green ) so the army will be re-painted in steps ( one squad stripped/painted at a time ).

Let me know what you all think gentlemen!

Magicman: Sure! Next time 'round I have a cam I'll snap a few for you ;) Note though that he will be given a new (better!) paintjob in the near future. The com squad isn't finished ( in their first scheme ) and will also be changed ).

Loken: Good the be back! :) How's the kid?

The list is using C:SM and roughly goes:

Captain on bike with hammer/shield 180

Full melta bike squad 310

Full melta bike squad 310

Full plasma bike squad 310

Full flamer bike squad 280

2x LS ( heavy ) 180

3x LS ( light ) 180

The bike squad has gotten some progress done and will hopefully be done this weekend! The techie only has minor details left before he is done as well. So hopefully I'll be able to get a camera come sunday/monday. And next week I should be getting another ravenwing box as well ( oh the sweet, sweet madness ).

Cheers guys! And let me know what ya'll think

I like the librarian, tough I am not so sure about the yellow robe. Gonna have to have a look at it IRL to make my final judgement :D

Are you taking this army to GothCon with me? :) I hope to get my True Scale Alpha Legion ready for that, Hydra Dominatus and all that.

Got some frigging sweet progress done today! Painting from 16.30 - 02.30 does that :)

Final layer of metal, clean-up black, clean-up green, plasma effect and first green highlight done on the entire squad (!) Now all they need is 2 green highlights and a black highlights and they're done. I'm going to see if I can finish them tomorrow and get some pics as well.

The new scheme looks A LOT better than the old one IMHO, which you guys will be able to judge when the pics come up (I'll take some photos of the old scheme as well for comparison ).

Thanks! Obben, not sure, it all depends on work.. and that's pretty much up in the air, so no idea :/

Black Hand: The fluff is basically a sallies successor with close ties to a major forgeworld ( close to their home world, so they protect the forge and in return get major benefits ) thus the high amount of LR, TDA, dreads etc etc.

Other than that the fluff comes and goes a little as the army changes, once I have the entire chapter I'll set it all down in stone ( typing ).

It's going to be greatcompanies (7-8) with a total of more than 1000 marines combined. The 1st is a pure terminator company ( Deathwyrms ), Vanguard/Sternguard are instead the elite veterans of their companies ( tac and assault companies ).

The companies are more specialised than a standard one ( meaning more pure tac, pure dev, pure assault etc ) but in return they opperate in battle forces rather than companies. This way each different company can focus on their "path of war" and hone their skills to another level.

Close ties to the father chapter, and harbour a stong belief that there will come a day when the light of the throne will go out, and the universe will fall into darkness. But Vulkan will return, and the Ash Dragons ( my chapter ) will stand by the Salamanders under their Lord to protect humanity.

Cheers!

Wow nice plating on the helmet! Props to you man, that is dinky scale. The model looks just awesome.

My only grip is that his right forearm doesn't look strong enough for Space Marines, or anyone. Even though its bionics, I'd expect a couple more pistons or wires or something.

Model and army still look awesome. And good work with the harness. :)

Well guys it took a few days more than I though since LIFE got in the way ( a friend studying in Wales coming home a week early and a co-worker being in one heck of a messy relationship and needing a brother in arms ).

But here we go! The squad and techie done at last!

The full group

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/blandat037.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/blandat060.jpg

The sergeant, with a plasma pistol.

I went with a "checkers" pattern on his chainsword since I wanted him to stand out even more than he did with his backpack. Now everyone will easily be able to make him out. First time I tried painting checkers... happy with how it turned out actually B)

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/blandat039.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/blandat038.jpg

The special weapons ( plasma guns ) got mounted on the front instead of in the arms of the bikers. This way they too could swing chainswords like the rest of the squad :)

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/blandat045.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/blandat058.jpg

The attackbike is totally magnetized, so it can be used as a melta or heavy bolter, or as a normal bike. Magnets between the bike/cart and bike/base!

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/blandat054.jpg

The Techmarine!

Really happy with how this guy turned out in the end, esp the GS on the helmet and legs

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/blandat050.jpg

And here is the "old vs new" color scheme. I'm so much happier with the new one...

Thanks brother

The backpack is more bits than greenstuff. The two arms are made from the extra antenna you get for the land speeders in the ravenwing box.

The plasma-cutter is just two plasma pistols glued together and attached to a servo skull, with some brass wire attaching it to the backpack.

GS has just been used to cover joints and add some cables for effect

The legs and helmet though is a lot of greenstuff... But there is only one way to get better at working with greenstuff, and that's doing it more! ;)

I'm thinking that I'll re-do the commander on bike ( the marine and sadle ) since I think I want to change a few things about him...

Cheers!

Well now that th squad is done and the techie too I wanted to move on, but due to the weather the ravenwing box was delayed. So instead I decided to re-do my commander!

He is still going to be mounted on the Carnosaur and still with a stormshield, but I'll be switching his thunderhammer to a powerfist instead.

This time around there will be a lot more conversion going into the model, unlike last time where it was more or less pure plastic with some greenstuff for filling out gaps.

I'll be using the powerfist from the FW character sprue ( bionic arms/leg, plasma p, old style bolters etc ) since it is one of the coolest bitz I have ever seen!! You can see the real fist inside the powerfist! :)

The major conversions will be bionics on the carnosaur to "40k" it a bit more, and a drake-scale cloak on the commader. I cut the Carn's tail since I wasn't happy with how it moved, and I'll be re-doing that as well. I'll be giving it segmented armour plates down the tail, starting by it's hind legs.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/DSC00868.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/DSC00874.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/DSC00876.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/DSC00885.jpg

Since these pics I have also cut of the left arm of the Carn' at the elbow, and will be making it bionic up to the "hand". The reins that were ´made from rope last time will now be made from chains instead.

Thoughts and ideas?? B)

Cheers!

nice start to the carosaure(i cant sp) il be interested in how you make it 40k ish as i plan to make a loyalist army riding dragons. Do you plan on hanging the bolters below the head?

I plan on adding armour plates to my mounts do you?

Looking pretty nice man.

What does it count-as in game?

Ive got a Carnosaur from when the Lizardmen were released way back when (I was always a little in love with Dinosaurs as a kid...) and it'd be cool to be able to use it.

Will be watching this with interest.

Cheers guys :)

I plan on putting armour on the tail and on the hind legs and there will be a saddle on the back. The bionics will do for the arms/head.

The bolters I will probably skip altogether as I can't really come up with a conversion that doesn't make them look "stuck-on" just for wysiwyg... So if someone starts throwing a fit due to that I'll simply not use the bolters. (1 shot(2 at rapid), big woop... )

The command squad is mounted on cold ones ( dark elves ) but since they are so much smaller I wont ad armour to them as it just makes the models drown in extra stuff...

MagicMan: I count it as a commander on bike :) Figured a sallies successor chapter needed a little extra to make the captain stick out since the rest of the bikes will be converted to choppers later on. So I went with the biggest lizard I could get my hand on!

I've used him in a lot of games, and I have never gotten issues with using him for this purpuse. Probably because it's so damn huge that I can NEVER hide it! And with a dreadnought base, anyone can get into base-to-base with him.

And I got my Ravenwing box today! ;) 6 bikes, 1 attackbike and 1 land speeder. Can I get a whoop-whoop!!

Thanks! It's a good idea, one I've considered a few times myself, but since I don't play DE and don't really know anyone that does getting the cloaks would be too much hassle/costly

Here is another cloak that I did, and it's something along these lines it'll end up.

Used the x-mas sales to get myself a new camera (that actually takes good pics! :) )

So here are some pictures of what I bought from my friend.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/PC260025.jpg

I also managed to get a bunch of necron bitz from a friend that used to play them, so the first thing I did was start working on some bionics.

These guys will be in my 4th company later on ( tech-cult company ).

Each marine will have the ad-mech chestplate and shoulderpad. And I am aiming to give most special heads ( bare heads with bionics or helmets with extra "targeting" parts over one eye etc ).

I really like the way you highlight and I like your 'new' colour scheme.

Great GS work and general converting, I'll be interested to see how the necron bits look when painted! Awesome bionics on that dragon/dino creature too! Nice job.

I might offer a suggestion in terms of the wysiwyg for the commander's bolters; it's a bit of work but I really want someone to try this (I prob will one day anyway!) Why not mount the bolters on a type of servo arm conected to the commanders backpack? Just a thought...
