Mercury's Lamenters

29/03/2011:

I haven't provided an update for a while, but have still been actively painting my Lamenters. I have just got round to imaging Assault Squad Volturno, my as-yet unnamed Librarian, and Sanguinary Priest with new jump pack option. This takes me to 840 points of Lamenters, thus completing my LPC vow. My Lameneters force will continue to grow though!

26/02/2011:

I have (finally!) completed and painted my Storm Raven conversion. It is posted in the Blood Angels forum, though you locate it here.

15/02/2011:

My Death Company Dreadnought is now complete, ready to join his cursed brethren. A while ago I saw SamaNagol's DC Dreadnought, and thought 'wow, that is what a DC Dread should look like', so have gone out of my way to replicate the pose. Extra thanks to SamaNagol for providing me with the talons for the conversion too!

My Death Company are now complete, painted using the colour scheme featured in Imperial Armour 9:

22/01/2011:

My Rhino transport is now complete!

This is a replica of the Lamenters Rhino which features on page 110 of Imperial Armour Volume 9 (albeit without the extra armour upgrade). I am SO happy with this model: lots of freehand work whicave gone badly wrong, but ended up looking great!

The first of my LPC models is complete: a Lamenters Sanguinary Priest.

The conversion was inspired by the Sanguinary Priest featured in the Flesh Tearers Index Astartes article. I deliberately chose to give him the Red Grail so that I can use him as a Corbulo counts-as if I so desire. I’ve spent a vast amount of time on this model and am delighted with the results. It’s the small details which I love – the blood vials on the exsanguinator and backpack, the plasma cutter, the gems and lenses, and even the Chapter Icon. Unfortunately I will not have the time to paint my entire army quite to this standard! The mustard yellow is built up using Iyanden Darksun mixed with Bleached Bone, and the Chapter Icon is the BoLS Lamenters decal, with the chequer-board pattern being filled in with a 0.2mm pigment pen. A lot of people ask me about my gold. It is actually a mix of Dwarf Bronze, Scorched Brown and Mithril Silver. I use it because IMO the GW gold paints are too ‘yellow’ in appearance.

The gold is as follows:

Dwarf Bronze:Scorched Brown basecoat at a ratio of approx 4:1

Devlan Mud shade

Dwarf Bronze highlight

Dwarf Bronze:Mithril Silver (~2:1) highlight

Mithril Silver:Dwarf Bronze (~2:1) highlight

Beautiful work! B) Love the use of the old chaplain model for this conversion. Good luck with your vow, I'm really looking forward to seeing this army develop as I don't have the patience to paint all that yellow or b&w checkers.

The armour is as follows:

Iyanden Darksun base

Blackline with 'Mercury' black - made by topping a pot of Chaos Black up to the rim with Regal Blue (WARNING: this looks rubbish on tanks - far too black. Try using a red-brown e.g. Dark Flesh instead!)

Re-define yellow with 'Mercury' yellow - made by topping a pot of Iyanden Darksun up to the rim with Bleached Bone

First highlight = add more Bleached Bone to 'Mercury' yellow

Second highlight = more Bleached Bone again

Final highlight = Bleached Bone with just a little smidge of 'Mercury' yellow added

Yes, it is Corbulo's grail. I bought him, spent ages sawing through the model, then realised that I had basically spent £10 for an arm. I was blinded by the conversion I had planned and hadn't even considered the cost! Not the most savvy financial decision I've ever made, but I am more then happy with the result.

Nice Rhino - the interior is superb

Agreed. You have a real nack for those reflective lenses. If I were to pick on one thing I'd say the gold on the Rhino looks a bit...shmutzy? But overall everything looks excellent, without even considering the difficulty of that color scheme.

Quick question, what're you gonna name it? That nice fancy scroll on the front needs toe be put to good use :D

According to IA:9 this particular Rhino belongs to squad Torias, or something to that effect (I don't have the book in front of me atm). I want to put this name on the front of the tank, but will probably have to re-assess my method for painting scrollwork first, as the scroll is too heavily shaded at present for any writing to look 'right'. It is something I have in my mind, but will probably not happen in the immediate future!

Updated 08/02/2011: Death Company complete.

Next up: Death Company Dreadnought.

@ 4RC71C FOXX: The symbols are a combination of BoLs transfers and freehand designs. Things like the chequerboard patterns and quartered shield design on the side of the Rhino are hand painted, but in general the Lamenters symbols are tranfers.

Occasionally I come across armies that make me want to scream with jealousy. This is one such occassion.

Fantastic work fella, really love the paintjobs, especially the chapter badges. The only crit I have is perhaps you should take a bit more time on the top of the backpacks to ensure the mold lines are scraped.

Keep it up! :D

Fluff-wise, the Lamenters are the only BA successors to have overcome the Black Rage issue...so normally they wouldn't field Death Company :)

Yet, in IA 9, they show some Death Company who are from the Lamenters Chapter.

However, really really great job there.

You have the 4th ed fluff, there, it has been changed in the new codex. I think I somewhere read that they did not suffer much from it after creation, but the flaw crept slowly back or something along those lines.
