Knights of Gryphonne 3rd Company

New year, so starting up a new army! Scoured the internet and other sources for a while trying to find a chapter that interested me, and stumbled across the Knights of Gryphonne. I haven't seen much orange marines, and never any in person so decided they were the chapter for me. I will be following what little fluff I can find on them, mostly that they are a fleet based chapter and don't show company markings on their armour.

To help me keep focus I will be doing the army in smaller chunks, and completing each goal before moving to the next. First up will be my vow for the LPC: 10 man Tactical Squad, 5 man Tactical Squad and a Captain to give me the starts of my army!

WIP shots so far:

Close to being finished, 5 of my 10 man squad. Still a few small details to do and I need to highlight the power armour

The rest of the marines. The ones primed white are the last half of my squad in progress.

Captain of the 3rd Company, armed with a Relic Blade and Storm Shield. I got the shield off a friend but I am pretty sure it's from Chapterhouse Studios.

Natanael: Thanks, I spent ages trying to get the power weapon effects right.

Vulkan454: Thanks I will try to get some more pics up tonight or tomorrow, depending on when the wife lets me use her camera!

PorridgeMeister: The orange is pretty simple. It's Macharius Solar Orange washed with Gryphonne Sepia, and I am going to highlight it with a 1:1 mix of Vomit Brown and Fiery Orange

Just did some assembly today during breaks for midterm studying. Should get those marines completed by the weekend!

Razorback for the combat squad I am currently painting, simple conversion cutting off one of the lascannons and gluing 2 plasma guns

My twin linked assault cannon Razorback, using the turret from the land raider crusader

AoBR dreadnought, glued a shield to make him a bit unique and replaced the storm bolter with a heavy flamer

Command squad I got for Christmas I finally assembled, will be used for larger games.

Finished my combat squad, will have to try to get a better picture when there is more lighting since the flash washed out the highlights on the orange a bit:

The chapter markings are decals I got from Armorcast

Next up: The other half of the Tactical squad!

MagicMan and Wicced: Thanks for the comments and criticism. I am pretty fond of the mono orange myself, so I don't think I will be painting the shoulder trim another colour. I want to blind the enemy with the power of orange!

Dorns padawan: Thanks, I am pretty happy with how the command squad looks even if they are a bit on the expensive side points wise. Going to be modeling a few more variations so I can tweak the squad for different sized games eventually.

Midterms are keeping me a bit busy, but once the weekend hits I should be back to painting, as well as assembling the Whirlwind my wife got me as a Valentine's gift (I married an awesome woman it seems!)

Think the head is from the DA sprue? Pretty sure it is. Looking forward to seeing the Vindicator all oranged up!!!! You gonna keep the colour scheme the same with the assault squad & by that I mean are they too gonna be all orange or ay gonna change something about them?

Excellent looking marines, can't wait for the Whirlwind :D What's your concoction for orange? Got my marines with a bit of "beginners attempt" orange but it's not quite right imo and yours is right on the money

Dorns padawan: I think you are right where the head is from. The assault squad will be pretty much the same, jump packs will be all black.

Vulkan454: Thanks, I try my best to make my squads have good poses!

Shotbreak: Recipe for orange is: prime white, basecoat with Macharius Solar Orange, was it with Gryphonne Sepia, then do highlights with a 1:1 mix of Fiery Orange and Vomit Brown.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks to a flu, I didn't get very much done with my week off. I did pick up a drop pod and assemble it, and found a primed Chaplain at a garage sale for $3 this weekend!

Dreadnought will be using it so didn't add the harnesses
