mrtn's dirty rotters

First off welcome to the forum!

I'm liking them, I do have a soft spot for the older type, as I think they look awesome ;)

I took a break from my nurgle force to play a renegade logan wing (as its way more fun and customisable then my deathguard army was), but I think I'm slowly coming back heh.

If your looking for playing tips, there's a great thread here in this forum, bit long but read all of it and you shall know how to win with deathguard!

Thank you for the welcome! :P

I've read a bit in the tactica already, I'll return to it when I've got more games under my belt and understand more of the game.

Here's a couple of conversions for the latest batch, a champion with "power fist" and a flamer converted from an ancient painting starter set.

I remember that flamer!

A shame that the deathguard forum is rather quiet recently, but there just isn't much to talk about, I have quite a few restrictions on what I can take in a deathguard army, leaving me with only plague marines as troops (and no other infantry, carrying an icon of nurgle does not a plague marine make).

I do like your paint scheme, and your converted champion guy, what sort of point value are you building this army too? any dread's/vehicles/daemon princes?

Thank you. Well, I bought these with a huge army, most of it painted, so I'll use those painted minis and paint up the unbuilt stuff before I go back and fix up the old stuff.

But I do have 3 painted rhinos, one unpainted one, a half-built predator, a daemon prince (which I've rebased on a square base for my fantasy armies, but my friends don't mind), a half-built GUO, two or three obliterators, an ancient dread (on a square base), seven plague bearers, seven terminators (heavily converted, and on small bases), Typhus, and some 40ish plague/chaos marines.

So I can already play bigger games comfortably, though some of the models are missing backpacks or weapons or arms...

I think I could pull together models for a Chaos Havoc unit, would that be a good idea or are they worthless in the game?

Some pics of what I have already, and what came with the army (including the random stuff, like dark elves, ratlings, sisters of sigmar, greatswords, nurglings and more):

Well, army choices depend on what sort of army you want. I play pure deathguard, so the only troops I allow are plague marines, and no oblitorators, or units that need an icon of nurgle to show their devotion, which narrows my choices.

If you play a more mixed list, you can take havocs, which aren't that bad, I've run them as 5 man squads with 3 missiles and they dont do bad, or you can put 4 special weapons and a champ with a combi wep of the same type in a rhino and rush them to the enemy.

Princes are great, lords and sorcerer's are so so. Termies are most cost efficient as suicide squads (3 man, 3 combi meltas, deep strike in and hit a tank/MC), as they aren't fearless larger squads can run. Oblit's are great, predators aren't too great for what they do but can work, and dread's can be terrible due to the crazed rule, but are fun with dual close combat weapons.

And plague marines rock, I like mine as 7 guys of course, either with 2 special weapons (dual plasma/melta), and a few with a champion with fist and combi flamer (I'm aiming to model nurglings carrying flamers onto their base, or on a base following them to show if they have used it or not).

Good luck with your games, the list i am running currently has 8 wins and 1 loss, though I play amongst a small gaming circle :D

Thanks. I don't even know if I play Death Guard or some other nurgle legion yet, so I think I'll go for the "if it's a cool model it's OK" philosophy. I'm usually more interested in looks than writing fluff anyway, I've hardly written anything for my fantasy armies.

I finished the latest batch! I'm happy with the flamer, I like the weird horn and the square cod piece.

Well, you're a tough crowd... :)

Some conversion work, I'm happy with the head bearer:

I like the headbearer the most, nice painting aswell mate on your marines (refering to the first post).
Thank you.

Das a lot of nurglings.

It is.

Today I took a somewhat brave decision and started to tear apart a rhino. It was painted to a TT standard, and extensively converted, but the conversions were so over the top (big skull in front, giant skeletal arms sticking out on the sides, a zombie graveyard in the corner, big tongue all over the roof) that it really didn't fit with my army. Thankfully it was glued with super glue, and thus possible to de-construct.

Here's a pic in the middle of the operation:

Here's a "Before":

And here's a couple of "After", or at least "After converting, before painting":

I quite like the minimalist chaos look, over the top conversions have their place but not for me

And I do love the old rhino's, especially for plague marines, as we run 7 man squads (I have 3 of the old rhinos and love them).

Keep up the good work :D

@Nurglez: Thank you. :D

@Abyssel: Sorry, I'm not really up to date with Mr Zombie's work.

Finished rhinos!

This one I didn't convert myself, I only fixed a few things later, so if something's looking good or bad, it's probably not my work...

This one I mostly made myself, with a notable exception of the mutated door.

I tried to add orange weathering to tie them in with the bases of the infantry.

And an armyshot. I just noticed that I only started painting these a month ago, so fairly quick work if I say so myself.

Damn, I wish I had your skills at painting quickly. I like the style of your scheme, and I have my deathguard army to paint but want to sort out my logan wing (is only about 16-18 termies and a few other things, but I'm having painters block.

Rob zombie is a heavy metal band/singer, made a video where he is driving a funky car

I'm really diggin' your army! Your conversions are quite inspirational.

I don't have as much conversion work in my Plague Marines (plenty elsewhere in the army), but I did plan on re-doing a squad that was converted and painted about 3 - 4 years ago (skillz have improved), and I might have to steal some of your ideas.

Keep it coming. I'm eager to see what you'll do with a Daemon Prince.

Thank you both for your support and nice words, and for the video. Wasn't really to my taste, but...

Thank you. :) Steal on, I don't mind being an inspiration, and I do take inspiration from others.

I'm using the daemon prince that came with the army. Have to post a picture at a later date, Photobucket seems to be acting up. It's quite a nice model, but it's not especially 40k-ish, and I've based it on a square base, so it doesn't add a lot to the look of the army. Might make another prince some time in the future, but now I've still got models to fix up in the army before I get any more.

Where is the sheathed plastic sword from? It would be ideal for a cypher conversion!

good work so far.

Thanks. The sword is from the chaos warriors box.

Looking really good mrtn, it's nice to see you get so far with the building and painting. I've got painters block on mine, I used a FW Nurgle Sorcerer as a test mini...which probably wasn't the best idea :P

Where did you get that Headbearer bit from? I have a feeling I could use a lot of those...

Thank you! The headbearer is from the Skaven stormvermin box, you'll find two per box.

Probably a little late, but by gods, do I love that last rhino!

Better late than never, thanks.

I've been constructing obliterators, there was one unbuilt and one with the start of some conversion in the army, so I've finished those. I also felt the need for a third one, so I converted the terminator you got with White Dwarf at the release of 5th ed.
