Sons Of Orar

A Work In Progress

'Real' Army?

In the past I have had quite a few armies, but never have I actually cleaned all the mold lines, magnetized arms or actually painted the whole army, so this WIP thread is aimed to keep me motivated to 'complete' the army! One of the main reasons I have decided to commit to this project is Ravendove's Sons Of Orar thread. Although he is my inspiration, I will not be copying him so yell at me if you see something that is the exact same!

My army of armless marines.

Finally, my headless sergeant with magnetized arms.

To conclude my first post ever I just want to say all support is appreciated along with any ideas/suggestions. Keep me motivated! I will be purchasing paints soon, so keep your eye on my thread!

P.s. Can you see my images? I'm having a lot of trouble uploading them.

Wow! I love this community! No-one knows me because of my low post count, yet you all are friendly and encouraging! Firstly, THANKYOU! In terms of the painting my recipe for red will be something like this:

Army Painter Pure Red primer

Baal Red wash

Blood Red highlights

1:3 Blood Red:Blazing Orange highlights

I have not decided what I will be doing for my white, but it will probably be:

Skull White primer

Astronomical Grey wash in recesses

Skull White touch ups

If anyone has some suggestions for white, I would greatly appreciate them.

I will be aiming for a clean, crisp look to the models, mainly because I like them like that, and also because I'm not very good at battle damage etc. I bought all the paints for the red yesterday, so weather allowing I will be priming them tonight so keep an eye out for an update!

If the poster is friendly, then so are the posters (in most cases) :) Post counts have nothing to do with it.

Good luck with the first batch ;)

Hey, more sons of orar! Awesome.

If anything, you should be aiming to get yours as close to Ravendove's as possible, he's set a high standard. I'd be extremely proud if my army turned out half as coherent and clean as his!

Looking forward to updates on this.

Thanks guys! Just a quick text update, sorry about that. I have primed (red) and washed tactical squad 1, but I couldn't take photos because my step-mum decided that she needed her camera for work (for the first time in the history of my life!). Sorry about that guys, but by this time tomorrow I should have the photos done, and I might get around to highlighting them tonight.

I completely agree with you, Ravendove's work is astounding, and so if I achieve anything remotely similar I will be extremely happy. What I was trying to get at is that I wont be using his list, not copying his poses etc.

Watch this space for a pic update tomorrow!

Can't wait to see them painted up. How will you be doing them? Clean, dirty, weathered? Got a recipe in mind?

I just realized that Ravendove commented! I actually feel extremely honored by the presence of greatness! Ravendove, what is your recipe for white?

As far as I'm aware, I'm not the messiah or anything - so chill out a little! :D

My white recipe is the fairly standard Codex Grey > Fortress Grey > Skull White. Looking forward to seeing the photos.

Haha so I know I promised you guys a picture update today, but unfortunately my step-mum has gone away on a camp! Who would have ever though :|. So ... in 4 days I will have a picture update, sorry guys!

@Ravendove: Hahah your painting is quite amazing mate! Thankyou very much for your recipe, its greatly appreciated.

Once again, sorry everyone, but don't loose interest!

Well, you guys asked for it, so here it is! A picture update! Unfortunately, I'm not using my normal camera, and I'm very displeased with the results. I will be taking new photos when I return to my dad's house.

First off is the whole squad, only the armor is done.

Next is the sergeant, still requiring a lot of attention.

Last but not least is the 5 men with Aquila/skull with wings (not sure of name) on their chests.

Tell me what you guys think! I realize that I am not the most amazing painter, but I gave it a go. If its crap, tell me, but also tell me how to improve, please! Thanks a lot guys!

a sheet of white paper underneath the figs and behind would help the pics a little.

as for figs its looking very promising, you seem to have got the red just right which can be very tricky. can't wait to see them finished.

@ravendove.. no your not, but i'd say your pretty darn close lol

Thanks for the tip! I'll be sure to do that when I re-take the photos within the next few days. Thankyou for the kind words, but tbh the red looks even better in real life, so when I take new photos hopefully you will be able to see what I see!

Edit: Should I paint the bases, or leave them el-natural?

Hey Alexander,

nice red you got there, I like the depth of it. In further steps, some "brownlining" with a mix of Blood Red and Scorched Brown might do the trick to get some definition on those marines, as the red itself looks a bit blank right now. ;)

Keep it up, I'd like to see more pics of your guys!
