[LPC] Legion of the Damned squad

Recommended Posts

Hello all! As I was posting my WIP storm pidgeon, I totally realized I should probably put up pictures of my complete Legion; after all, it was my vow to complete! I had forgotten to do so earlier...oops!

Anyway, on to the anticipated pictures. I didn\'t focus much on the bonework, but if you want to see some pics of those parts you can check out my WIP thread, or simply demand more pics from me. Alternatively, see below.

As you can see I went for simple flame effects on the armor. Before anyone comes in with a silly comment like my flames are backwards, they actually aren\'t. Afterall, this is unnatural fire. If it was natural/real then of course the brightest parts would be on the inside and bottom ;). I decided to do it this way, especially with the brazier on the flamer dude, because when you have two different flame schemes on the same model it doesn\'t look all that good to me. This keeps it consistent and flowing.

I can also see that mold line on the multi-melta...don\'t worry, that only shows up in a flash. In regular viewing, it\'s entirely invisible.

As always, C&C is welcome :( .

I disagree on that actually, they remind me of how eavy metal used to do their bases, around 2nd edition.

I didn't notice the flame "faux pas" tbh, don't think its too noticeable.

oh, and let me be the first to say "More pics please", i'd like to see more of the bonework, might inspire me to start mine after i finish my current projects

Looking good, although this

My only complaint is the bases, they just let down otherwise great minis.

Is the flame pyre on the 2nd to last image bent? it just seems so from that angle.

Otherwise beautiful ^_^

It's how I've been doing my Ultramarines bases since 2nd edition; why change now? :P I know they'd be a sticky spot for some people, but for me the mini isn't defined by the base. Plus, the green gives a nice contrast that really shows off the black.

@ Psy-Crow: Can do, I'll get up more pics this afternoon.

The brazier isn't bent at all, it's just the back pack is on a strange angle to the rest of the body, though that's how it lines up according to the mold. You're right it does look odd.

@ seahawk:

dont' get discouraged; simple green bases aren't bad after all. I guess most of us started with a single type of flock and goblin green - and some haven't moved away from that, which is okay if THEY like it.

Sure, presenting minis would be more fun if everybody called it a perfect piece of art, but at the end of the day, everythng that matters is your own opinion. Also, nobody wants to hear bootlicker's babbling, right?

And I can't spell "opinion" correctly for my life.

/e: [random swear words]!!! I forgot to comment the miniatures!

They look really nice. Perhaps you should add a second, very thin highlight just to define the edges a little more, but aside from that, I really like 'em. Especially most of the skulls look great! The flames are also cool, but perhaps you need to practice painting white just a little more. It blends fine, but to my mind, there's somehting missing, although I can't put my finger on it...

Ha, was waiting for the comments!

Though you can't really tell, there actually are two highlights on the armor: Fortress Grey highlight on everything, followed by a black wash, then Space Wolves Grey on the parts that would receive the most light (knee tops, shoulder pad corners/tops, helmet tops, backpack tops). Yea my flash kinda washed it out, but then my set up for picture taking isn't the best. I really wish for a lightbox!

Otherwise, I'm a fan of subtle highlights instead of having them overdone. I saw some Legion at the Chicago bunker that, while kinda neat (a Legion titan too!), looked absoutely horrible in terms of highlighting and so were ruined to me. I go for the little highlights that pop in the right spots. You see it more in person (I even thought my F-Grey was over done :) ).

My skulls aren't as blended as some others out there, but that's because I did more drybrushing than straight painting. I'll have better pictures of the bone later tonight for perusal.

I just liked the sheer amount of flame on the back of the flamer dude :D.

I like these allot. IMO they are very intimidating models due to the the large area of black(which is tricky to get right) and the flame details but by the sounds of it you have used some simple techniques to great effect.

Bookmarking this as a reference point for when i pluck up the courage for mine, thanks for extra pics

I love 'em. The flames are really vibrant and bring them too life. I like your grubby white as well. I'm not wholly convinced on the green-edged bases – reminds me of yesteryear and compared to the models seem a bit 'flat' and characterless maybe.

Cheers

I
