Grey Knight Army

Hail Brothers,

Long time away from power armour was rekindled with the new Grey Knights. Here and on my blog will be the details of their creation.

First up is my Grand Master. No Name as such yet. Used Draigo as the base but swapped out the SS with the Bloodletter head. Gs's over the back of the plastic arm where the stormbolter should be.

Next is an equally unnamed Librarian based off of the Space Hulk Librarian. Arm Swap for the stormbolter, cut off the axe head for the halberd. Bunch of random bitz added on afterwards.

I was planning on doing the same type of wash for my grey knights. After viewing your's it confirmed that this is what I plan on doing as well. Keep up the great work and post more pics!

I rather like the chromed effect you've managed to pull off with these guys. The blue wash seems to have worked better on some models than others: Draigo looks boss (surprisingly he also looks much better without the shield), but some of the Strike Squad members look like they just have odd blue stains on their armor (particularly less detailed parts of the model like where the trim meets the shoulder pad).

Frankly it's a problem I have myself with washes, and I haven't a clue how to avoid or fix it, or even if you feel it needs fixing for that matter. It's a solid start at any rate.

So, I'm torn between doing the darker areas with purple or black. I plan on doing the more mundane mechanics in boltgun / brown and black washes, but I wanted the Aegis armour to stand out more. Right now I am leaning towards purple. More shots to come tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback!

I have been debating whether to start a small grey knights force since I saw the previews games workshop released. I mean I have always liked the grey knights but never so much the models that were available :-/ but now I am convinced and seeing how awesome they look gas convinced me more.

I love your silver on these guys as its so different from the generic silver you see on every grey knight. The chrome effect is how I would imagine them to be. Definatelygoing to be keeping an eye on this thread

Keep up the good work and can't wait to see some.models finished

Dammit, someone has beaten me to posting a picture of a SH Libby conversion. I have this model, with a couple differences, sitting here awaiting the GS to dry.

Hey Brothers,

I picked up a textured sheet of plasticard from a local train/hobby shop. Cut it to shape and beveled the sides to have the same slope as the base. I used GF9 hobby scenics for the larger chunks of concrete with sand added in general places.

The tile is based with Astronomicon Grey with a Skull White drybrush. This is followed by a heavy inking using a 2/3 to 1/3 mix of Gryphonne Sepia and Devlan Mud. The rubble and sand is a base of Adeptus Battlegrey and a drybrush of Astronomicon Grey.

When working with this kind of base I find it easier to finish them then glue a basecoated mini on.

Here's a pic without a figure on it. (Don't mind the flithy desk )

The silver is done using an airbrush and Vallejo Model Air Steel. I cover the whole model in that then apply Asurmen Blue cut 50/50 with Liquitex Slo Dri. This lets me move the ink around around the model before it dries. I can also pull of ink where it pools in the in correct places.

I've done the purple now on them but I am not happy with the pics. I'm playing a few games at the LGS today, so I'll take a few shots of the army in action.

I'd post more, but I should be having my first games with these bad boys shortly, I have to get going!

The bases are amazing :-) they are so simple yet also very striking to the eye. I always feel a good base to apply the model always makes a miniature stand out more. However over crowded bases can be distracting and take your eye off the model itself. Your bases have just the right amount of scenic essence without being too in your face. . . I also love the consistency as this ties the army together. Kudos to you battle brother

look forward to seeing more

Few days have gone by since the last post. I've based all of the gold and parchments on everyone. This Terminator will give you an idea of where I am at.

I used Les from amazingpaintjob.com's method of doing power / force weapons with a small colour tweak. Its based in Vallejo Model Air Pale Blue, with Hawk Turquoise and Black feathered in with an airbrush respectively. Here's a closer shot:

I'll end up taking a bit more time on the sword (this first one was about 10 min including airbrush clean out between colours) which should allow a smoother transition.

Thanks for the commentry!

Those are VERY good looking, the only thing I can complain about so far (as they aren’t finished, I guess) is that you have some heavy pooling of the wash on flat surfaces... that in my opinion takes down the quality by about 50%. Otherwise, splendid though!

Well, studying for exams have taken over my life, but I wanted to give a small update. It Turns out that if you don't let paint cure when putting making tape on, it peels it all off. Well, that's a hard lesson learned. Here are two members of the strike squads, my GM and a Termie Justicar.
