VAGABOND's Legios Custodes Army Blog

Alright folks, just thought I'd give you guys a sneaky peek of what I'm working on atm. I know Custodes has been done before but I wanted to have my own go at it and see what I can come up with. Picked myself up a box of Sanguinary Guard & Grey Knights and got to work the other day. I ordered some of Scibor's Spartan Pads & Helmets. I received the Shoulder Pads in the post today and stuck them on. I also worked on 2 Apothecary's for my very own Custodian Guard theme Draigowing Army. I was only mean't to do one squad but ended up adding another Apothecary so I'll use him for the next squad.

They are headless atm but this is just to show you how they will look once they're converted up, I will add update this topic as it goes on. Also I'm a little stumped as to what backpacks to use, I was gonna use the basic Space Marine ones but not really sure.

Like the pose of this one, chargeee!

Me aswell mate, that one and the other Cuxtodian who's holding his Guardian Spear ready to strike is another favorite. I'll be updating this topic tomorrow once I've built the next squad.

The Helmets for these guys arrived today too and the first squad are looking bad ass.

I need some advice on some army lists aswell so check out this topic. Click

Loving them. Have you had a look at the older version backpacks from Forge World? i Reckon the Mark 2 or 3 ones would look lovely, or failing that the chaos ones seem to fit quite nicely also, judging by your captain. Get a move on with the updates, can't wait ;)

Here you go guys, my flatmate brought me in another box of Sanguinary Guard so I got to work on the second unit. The only thing I need to do now is file off the mould lines and fill some gaps with Liquid Green Stuff. I've currently got my Tyranid army on eBay which ends tomorrow morning and if it sells then I'm gonna place my order for the rest of the army.

Hopefully gonna be buying myself...

3 Dreadnoughts

2 Stormravens

2 Dreadknights

More Scibor Helmets so I can have the DK pilots with the same heads as the rest of the army.

I did have a few favorite models in my army but this is my best Custodian yet. I'm not a huge fan of the gap on the helmets so filled it in.

The Vindicare Assassin has always been my favorite but after reading his rules when he was rdone I just had to have one in my army. This was the first model I did for this army and was made from purely spare parts. Please don't think I'm modelled him for advantage but I like models on 40mm bases.

I've got a bad habit of that or just luck I guess. Well I'm not doing this army in Gold. as I'm gonna attempt NMM and see how I get on. I placed the order for the rest of my army last night and spent over 200.00 in roughly 5 minutes LOL.

On the way from London we have...

Box of Sanguinary Guard

Box of Grey Knights

3 Venerable Dreadnoughts

3 Aegis Defense Lines

1 Cities pf Death Building just for the bases.

2 Stormravens

2 Nemesis Dreadknights

Scibor Helmets, Shoulder Pads and accessories

Figure Case.

I worked the total for the army and it came to around 3k

Hey, I've been meaning to tell you that I've been keeping an eye on your thread and you have some very exciting stuff going on. I really like the running Custodes who is holding his halbred like he's getting ready to slash.

One of the concerns I had about going the Scibor route is the relatively static nature of the base models. I'll work through that, but I do want you to know that there's a lot of energy in your poses and that you are on to a very good thing.

I'm interested to see how your NMM goes. I'm going to be more traditional in my efforts.

Cheers,

Wey hey, I've been watching your thread too and liking your progress dude. I love the Scibor models but the lack of poses and energy kinda put me off them, don't get me wrong the kits are gorgeous but they're missing something.

The main problem I had was I ran it past my local GW manager and he said using those models would be problematic so I decided to create my own and make them stand out from the crowd. I am liking how these guys are turning out and using different kits from Grey Knights & Blood Angels is meaning alot of waste on my part and stuff I will probably never end up using.

I have never attempted NMM before so it's gonna be a learning curve for me. I have only ever painted Gold on my pure Sanguinary Guard army but I'd rather do a different thing and put my painting skills to the test.

Theres a problem with my order that I placed the other night and apparently they don't have Stormravens in stock but didn't think to email me and tell me this or advertise it on their website. I did get 2 Black Reach Dreadnoughts today so will be working on them this evening so there will be an update tonight.. hopefully.

Cheers guys :)

Quick update:

Spent a few hours on these Dreadnoughts, still got more to do on them but waiting on the glue to dry.

Damn plastic glue takes forever ^_^

If you're not using it already, try some 'extra thin' plastic glue. Since it's more solvent than glue, it evaporates very fast. I rarely have to wait all that long to keep working with a plastic build/conversion.

Really nice work however. That's a wonderful pair of, 'You're about to have a bad day' you've got there.

You've got some excellent posing going on everywhere. Everyone looks like they're about to leap in for the killing blow.

But it does make me consider an idea for a future side-project. Someday I'm going to do a Space Marine tripping as they are trying to deftly leap over something. I know they're super human and all, but you know there's got to be the odd tale of poor -insert name here- who misjudged that first step. ^_^

I like GW Plastic Glue as when it does dry it has a great bond but the only thing is waiting takes damn long, it's like watching paint dry.. pardon the pun.

Yeah the Dreadnoughts were built in like 2 hours last night, I'm gonna add more to them to Custode them up a notch. I received the primer I bought off eBay this morning to work on a test mini but it looks horrific so I'm gonna do them slightly similar to my Sanguinary Guard but change a few things on the gold recipe.

The poses were important for this type of army because are mean't to be the Emperors personal bodyguard so I'm gonna work on a model for him and change the model for Draigo (I think).

Heres the armour done on the test model, really glad with how it turned out. I wish I could get a better picture but hopefully this will give you an idea of whats to come. My army should be here by tomorrow morning and my Stormravens are coming next week sometime.

As promised updated pictures, only got the base to do and a little highlighting and he's finished. I'm gonna work on the rest of the squad maybe tonight or tomorrow hopefully. I'm really pleased with how he's turned out, not bad for 2 hours work.

Thanks for the comments guys and yeah I thought they looked a little big at first but looking at the artwork for the Custodes it looks about right.

That's the first squad almost finished, just need to paint the Guardian Spears then few other details and they're done.

I did take pictures but because it's dark and my lighting ain't great they look horrible, I will upload photos tomorrow with the full squad. Bad thing is aswell I don't have much black spray left so painting is on hold until I pick some up in the next week or so.

Mind you I'm gonna be upto my nuts in plastic tomorrow so I'll keep you guys posted.

:UPDATE:

That's the armour finished on the squad, I only have the weapons then bases to do.

It's amazing to see how much a little highlighting makes the model look so much better, this is easily gonna be my best paintjob yet because let's be honest these guys have to look good considering they are the Emperors Personal Bodyguard after all.
