For the Honour of the XII

Hello

I got an early christmass gift in the form thr Chaos Lord kit and Huron. So I wondered what could I do with them and decided put togethrer a small World Eaters warband in the anticipation of a new book sometime next year. After going through the old models and bitz boxes I found enough parts for a test model and went to work.

I have only assembled them and started to apply first undercoats as well as doing a test model which is half way done.

I am aiming for a bright blood red/shining gold old school scheme.

I first undercoated the entire model in Chaos Black and then applied Deneb Stone to the areas that would be Blood Red. I gave them Regal Blue shoulderpads to reflect the background I am imagining for these guys (for on that later). Now I am in the process of placing Iyaden Darksun as a basecoat for the areas that will be Shining Gold.

I think I will change the eye lenses for green to look different from the shoulder pads. Maybe Dark Angels Green or Snoot Green with Thraka Green wash?

As a future note I realised that black undercoat for anything that is not going to be iron/silver metal, black or blue is unecesary as it just adds more layers to be placed where red and gold will be.

I do have a dilema. What colour to paint the weapon casings. If I go for red the model will just be to red.

The options are: blue as the shoulder pads, a "neutral" black or dark grey or white as it was in the original legion.

Getting the model to stand normally without that warped base took some thinking on as I am not much of a converter. I first tried to put a SM helmet or a skull from the WH skeletons but those were either to big or looked to fragile making the model look unstable, so I settled on some lead pellets for fishing to balance the model. It will all get covered by base decoration so I hope it will look ok.

P.S. for those of you wondering why I am not working on the SM force I started a few weeks ago in this very forum, the anwser is I am still waiting for the necesary bitz to arrive and the customs service is sure taking its time as holydays approach.

For a high profile legion as the World Eaters there is suprisingly little background. The Codici from 3rd to 4th edition telly little to nothing about their forces and the Index Astartes gives a very broad picture, so I had to dig into the tome hidden in the depths of time known as the Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness to get a bit more.

The quotes use as inspiration:

...The World Eaters wear armour in Khorne's colours of red and black... However, the original chapter colours of white and blue are still visible on some items of World Eater armour and equipment. Often a shoulder piece, a brestplate or a single piece of armour...

...Long ago, World Eater Librarians lost many of their recording duties as scribes and all of their psychic abilities. They now serve as tally-keepers recording the number slain in Khorne's name by individuals and squads. Their other duty is to provide valuable communications support on the battlefield...

...Techmarines in the World Eater Legion are amogn the favoured of Khorne, as the have specialist knowledge that allows them to use the heaviest death-dealing devices. It is the number of Techmarines within a detachment that determins the amount of support equipment and number of vehicles and Slave Squads that are available...

...World Eater Medics have only one function: the recovery of gene-seed from fallen Legionnaries. Their other medical training is almost non-existent, and they are expected to take as many lives as any other member of the Legion...

...Distinguished by their utter ferocity in battle, Chaplains move among the Legionnaries inspiring further devotion to Khorne. Their acts of insane bravery in spilling blood - and their habit of slaying the tardy in the Legion's ranks - give new mettle to any squads to which they are attached...

...Regarder with awe by the rest of the Legion, Possessees have given themselves to the Blood God and become repositories for his daemonic servants. They are never burdened with command, but are left to slay in their own savage manner, the most inhuman of all the Blood God's (almost) mortal servants...

...As the teeth of the World Eaters, Devastator Squads rarely limit themselves to providing tactical support. They are often found in the thick of any fight, taking blood with as much abandon as their comrades-in-arms...

...Brutal and agressive in the extreme, World Eater Tactical Squads are the basic unit of the Legion companies...

...Assault Squads are drawn from the Company of the Chosen. Altered by pscho-surgery, they find pleasure only in bloodletting for Khorne...

Though some of the background has changed over the years most what is writen above simply hasn't been touched upon.

So as part of the modeling project I plan to include all of the above mentiones into the force. Naturally all units will be limited to Flamers/Meltas/Plasmas with the heavy weapons given to vehicles, walkers and terminators.

The test model is moving on nicely though I haven't yet decided what to do with weapon casing and lenses. The Lord is being undercoated with Iyaden Darksun instead of Deneb Stone as I relised after a few palete tests Blood Red looks nices(deeper?) over a dark yellow than light beige basecoat.

Things to buy:

Box of CSM and some 'zerker heads

The red is done. I tried to make it as eye catching as possible. Next to do is the face than the gold, followed by metal and details.
