Time for the murder make

So I'm taking part in Mavericks Winter Advance 2012. I've decided to paint up my Logan wing army, starting with my 5 man drop pod unit. Here's the first guy I've started on. He's almost done except for the tubes under his arms, highlighting his gun, his face, and his base.

I'm trying a different route for my golds by painting the item silver with a few washes of Sepia. So far I like how its turning out. More to come!

So here's one finished terminator. I drilled the barrels but I don't know how happy I am with them. For the rest of the squad, and all future terminators, I'll drill the barrels before painting. Also, first time I've painted an eye on a model! I didn't want to ruin it with a huge black dot though. So here it is!

Started on the second terminator finally. This guy will probably get moved to another squad since his upper torso is the same as the first guy I painted. I'm hoping he turns out as well as the first, I keep thinking the wash didn't settle as well on him. Also, I'm thinking green lenses for his helmet. Something to help break up the grey and red already on him.

Small update on the second termie. His greys are done, highlights and all. Gotta work on the shoulder pads and red knee pad next. On a side note, I believe I'm going to use Gunnar Redmoons company symbol since I think it's pretty bad ass, and it will fit nicely with the color scheme. So here's two pics of the terminator!

This next picture is really because I need input from you guys! I know the power connectors on the glove itself will stay grey. But the cords and the connectors to the wolf claw I'm not what color to go with!! Also the "handle" will be black as well".

Thanks!

Second guy is finished. I'm happy I went with the green eye lense, really breaks up all the grey. Can't see in the picture but the barrels are drilled nicely. I feel like my bolters are always a little bland, but I'm not sure how to make them stand out anymore without looking crazy. Once the squad is done I'll apply the FW decals for Gunnar Redmoon. C&C always welcome!

Looking good brother. Nice and clean.

I'll echo what oldgit said though. Drill out your barrels. Do it before you undercoat and don't forget to drill the side holes too. I know it seems like a waste of time but the extra work makes a huge difference.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I agree that drilling the bolters makes a world of difference.

As for the grey it's really simple:

Basecoat black

Solid coat of thinned down Codex Grey

Heavy Badab Black wash, making sure it's in all the nooks and crannies

Then just another solid coat of thinned Codex Grey, leaving the black wash around the edges, joints, anywhere you think light won't hit.

Highlight with Fortress Grey, make sure you don't just highlight every edge.

Skull White dots on a few corners, as well as some thin lines on edges to bring it out more.

I think it's really the highlights that give the grey the color.

Third terminator will be started soon!

  • 2 weeks later...

Back again with another terminator. Other than his base he's done! For some reason painting his face was a pain, and even now I'm not completely happy with it. So I decided to cut my losses and just keep what I have. So here he is, comments always welcome!
