angry man's WIPs

hey all, figured i may as well get this started...

i consider myself the supremo of not painting very much very fast, so in an attempt to rectify that, and also to try and improve my painting standard by taking on board c&c, i thought id start posting what i get done up here.

and what better way to start than with a nice healthy LPC vow. although i am already worried about having bitten off more than i can chew...

I, angry man of the Chaos Ascendant subforum, vow on the honour of my Chapter legion to paint and present at least 2 squads of 5 marines, a rhino, 2 squads of 5 havoks and 2 razorbacks on or before the 31st of March, 2012. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

this constitutes a part of my 1500pt word bearers amy, built using C:SW (i dont hold C:CSM in very high regard).

my vow:

5 marines with meltagun (built)

5 marines with meltagun (built)

5 marines with 4 missiles (built)

5 marines with 4 missiles (built)

rhino (built)

las/plas razorback (built)

las/plas razorback (built)

so everything is built, and im just waiting on some metal WB shoulder pads to arrive so i can basecoat and begin. will put pictures and stuff up when i get around to taking them... (and just to forewarn everyone, i dont own a digital camera, so pictures will be taken by way of cameraphone and my picture taking is also awful)

Today i took some photographs, one of each of the units in my vow. unfortunately, when you combine a bad camera from a phone, bad photo taking ability and bad light, the result is never going to be fantastic. but it is what it is - in future i will try and remove what mitigating factors i can by attempting to take the photos in natural daylight.

So here it is - its all built, but the infantry are missing their left shoulder pads whilst i await my delivery. ive used a bits from a variety of kits; some bought new, some freshly clipped from old spues or found in my bits boxes, and some shamelesly looted from previously built/undercoated/completely painted models (all my own of course)...

the bases are all a bit mish-mash at the moment since all of the leg have been sourced from all over the place. ill rebase everything as a job lot once i have the paint job done. probably as tiled floor as if in some cathedral/monestary of some sort.

As soon as my pads arrive, ill undercoat it all and get cracking. ive seriously been considering investing in an airbrush of some description (be it the GW hand flamer one, or a slightly more expensive one) to get all the red done. the logic being that i can avoid brush strokes on my tanks and also ensure that i get as close to the same red on all my models as possible. this would be especially important when i get round to painting the rest of my army...

For those of you that are interested, this is the complete 1500pt list i am currently using:

Dark Apostle w/familiar (Runepriest w/ chooser of the slain)

5 Marines w/meltagun, rhino (Grey hunters)

5 Marines w/meltagun, rhino (Grey hunters)

5 Marines w/meltagun, rhino (Grey hunters)

5 Marines w/flamer, las/plas razorback (Grey hunters)

5 Marines w/flamer, las/plas razorback (Grey hunters)

4 Chosen w/4 combi-meltas, 1 fist, rhino (Wolf guard)

5 Scouts w/meltagun (wolf scouts)

Land speeder w/multimelta, heavy flamer

Land speeder w/multimelta

5 Havoks w/4 missile launchers, las/plas razorback (Longfangs)

5 Havoks w/4 missile launchers, las/plas razorback (Longfangs)

Hopefully, at some point it will all be making an appearance in this thread as i attempt to keep up my enthusiasm and motivation, though ill make no promises...

So thats it for now, and once again i apologise for the shody photo quality. please c&c the modelling (if you can see it properly) and i can always try and get better/different/(individual?) photos if i get asked for them.

Thanks for looking :D

I really enjoyed playing around with the simple 'freehand' and am really pleased with the overall results

when ive read poeples WIP threads before i always thought that when they said that the photo isnt quite true to the real life thing, that they were covering up shortcomings or potential errors. having photographed my own stuff though, i see that that isnt the case; IRL, my word bearers are much darker than they appear in the pictures.

i have pictures of my scouts to post later, and also i hope to make a start on my wolfguard chosen and wolf priest dark apostle

thanks for looking. id appreciate any feedback

They're looking good mate - look forward to popping those tanks again on Thursday.

At least now these won't fall apart when you look at them!

I notice that some of the scenic bases have been cut to be flush with the base itself - are you doing this on all of them or are you going to let some of them overhang the base?

theres roughly half and half flush/overhanging bases. not sure why. maybe ill standardise it at some point...

i have been able to get some headway on the rest of my warband. i present to you, my scouts:

gallery_44941_6833_306953.jpg

these are almost finished. i just need to neaten some parts up, finish off some of the detail and maybe try and squeeze some litanies onto the armour. i had to freehand the legion symbol rather than use moulded pads, for obvious reasons. whilst simple, i am quite pleased with the results

i intend to make a start on my wolf guard chosen and runepriest dark apostle over the next couple of days
